Hey Sean got into teach because of you. Been watching since you worked at Entrepreneur. Went down the development path, ups and downs happened during my life. Worked at some jobs and coded during lunch for months at a time. I kept giving up but your videos kept pushing me to keep going. Long story short, decided to make a career change, ended up landing a Scrum Master role with a FinTech company. WFH and better work/ life balance. Thank you brotha, I owe it to you

The part that stuck out to me is when you said you’re lucky to be alive. There’s people that pushed hard to extreme levels and ended up in the grave early. It’s important to consider when pushing hard. Have to include health in the equation of hard work. Love seeing these videos over the years.

Really like your video because I can relate a lot. Got my FAANG job 3 years ago and I needed to study a lot extra daily after my work to get it. The truth is: some people can find a way to get in the company, but your abilities shows in the real work. Need to really truly accumulate enough knowledge and practices to comfortably pass the interview and stay

Hey Chris, I’m going through a free bootcamp right now, I was very lucky to get a place on it, and I sometimes find myself getting lazy, gaming too much etc, or forgetting why I started this journey in the first place which is to make something out of myself and be able to provide a good life for me and my family. Hey Chris I've been watching your videos for awhile. You're inspiring. I recently got my first engineer job and what gives me motivation is being able to help my family and have money to go on vacation. My family is broke but now they have me to ask if they need help. It's such a good feeling. I grew up poor and I struggled with other things. But I conquered it all and here I am today. Happiest than I've ever been in my life. Everything you say is true. Thanks for your videos. I'm thinking about making a channel and telling my journey as well.

Bro, u inspired to keep going. Its taking me longer than I expected to learn front end web development and I've been doubting myself if I've chosen to pursue the wrong thing. I'm never quitting tho just because it's getting harder because I know getting good at programming will change my circumstances in life. I will actually be able to do the things I've always wanted to do in life such as traveling and buy some real estate and maybe start a family. I'm about to turn 29 and I really hope this will change my life for the better.

I’ve been your subscriber since you were homeless vlogger. You were one of the reasons I got into a bootcamp. I thought I could be a developer as my father is one. And because everything I tried I was able to do it, from writing to graphic design to ux design to marketing to Seo but coding was the only thing I could not crack. And probably because i could not crack it, I still learn every chance I get. Now I build sites using builders but yes I am one of those who had the delusion of becoming a developer.

It's a way for the company not to pay out vacation time. I work for a company that merges sick time and vacation time, so you can take time as you wish. They can't tell me no.

This is why I see people wanting to jump straight to a DevRel job versus dive into coding. They want the lifestyle really. I was talking to someone at a conference and she mentioned that she was only a few months in the profession and was looking to be an influencer so her thinking was just be a scrum master or something and then jump to relations. I just do not think people how tough it is...

I dont mind the hard work, but i have a question… How common are 40 hour work weeks. I’m a special education teacher and im pulling 60-70 hour weeks, and im done. I cant take it anymore. I have no life. On average is software engineering 40 hours, or is it a crazy amount of hours every week?

Dude, furreal. Besides being a workaholic, being a dev at a start up is a race against time. My gf is a comp sci major (I’m a bootcamp grad making more money than my comp sci friends) will study html/css/JavaScript for like 40 minutes every other day thinking she can make my income in a few months to a year. Super frustrating since I do want her to earn like me but she doesn’t get that she has to work like me. I work this hard so I can take care of the kids I don’t have yet and to buy my family members houses. It’s a grind, but it’s beautiful. Today’s work exists for tomorrow’s benefit.

Sometimes I wish we had the requirement of a degree or standards like other engineering branches. It would stop this bullshit of "Oh I see you have 20 years of experience! Can you reverse this red/black tree for us on this whiteboard before we hire you?"

In nursing give it a year to get your feet wet. Afterwards, work local travel and make anywhere from 45hr-80hr plus overtime. Work 3 12hrs shifts then an 8hr shift then have 3 day weekends.

I feel no guilt whatsoever. I remember no one cared when I used to live in my car and no one cares how good I have it now as well. Just trying to push people and help them realize hard work is worth it if you're only willing to put in the work.
