Davey Jones They can be awesome without you feeding them. They are always grateful, but you don't have to feed them. They are really at the mercy of others for food, shelter, etc.

I encourage you go towards that. You will be happy. I know it is hard. But nothing compares witg the feeling of comming back, see all your family proud fo you and more important receive a confirmation from the Heavenly Father telling you " i accept you sacrifice" nothing is more valuable than that i promise

Ingvild Kvakestad you may still be able to serve a mission, if you want. 18 and 19 are the youngest that you can go, but some don't go until 22 or 23. Many want to finish University first.❤️

It is worth it. I trully know that there is nothing like serving a mission. My life change becuase of that. If you do it you will experience that.

I was an LDS missionary. Besides possibility of learning a language, a mission also has the advantage of snagging girls at BYU.

Your mission will be what you make it. If all you seek is a new language and "snagging girls at BYU" then that's all you'll find. But it has the potential to be so much more than that.

Farah. Your mission will be what THEY make it. "They", means the MTC, your companions and the Mission leadership. YOU have no say in the matter...except to follow THEIR directives. What *THEY* want from you is strict OBEDIENCE...and, of course, BAPTISMS. If you don't produce baptisms, the MP and his two goons (the APs) will harass the hell out of you! That was MY experience. The language, girls and personal growth benefits are REAL WORLD benefits. If you expect miracles (by virtue of your authority/calling) you'll be disappointed. If you work hard and remain positive in YOUR OWN HEAD, it will turn out to be a positive experience. Take everything you hear from your leadership with the proverbial "grain of salt", and you'll be fine.

KevlarX2 I'm an LDS apostate. I served a mission. It was a great experience and hard work, as you said. I also served 3 years in the US Army. I can also say it was a good experience...difficult but good. Would I do either one again? *HELL NO!!*

Davey Jones - Well, you still have to admit that it made you more mature. Also, I'm sure there will be things you look back on and say I handled this better because of the experiences I had earlier in my life.

KevlarX2. Yes, I can and DO admit I matured because of those two years. I would also have "matured" serving in the Peace Corp or a mission for an Evangelical church. I matured, but it was NOT because of the religious dogma I taught. On the contrary. I was spiritually RETARDED because of that religion.

Xepher OfDawnfall. I "say those things" because it was MY experience. These guys won't say it so I DO. Without mentioning some of the downside to the mission experience, some may see just the positives as "religious propaganda", I.E., ADVERTISING. LDS missionaries often suffer mild to severe depression, diseases that affect them for the rest of their life as well as death via car accidents, shootings, muggings and murders. The last statistic I read was that there have been 500+ LDS missionaries die ON THEIR MISSIONS since the mid 1800s---which was close to the national average. The LDS church keeps this statistic quiet...when they should publicly honor these kids.. This doesn't even address the huge number of LDS missionaries *sent home* for "other reasons"---a disgrace in Mormonism. You never hear of these facts on sites like this that promote Mormonism.

I did that before my mission. Went on splits with the missionaries. That is really helpful getting a feel for what a mission is like.

That's what I, as a member of the LDS church, see in Catholics and Protestants. We are all doing our best to follow God, and that produces fantastic people. Small disagreements and confusion are bound to happen. The most important thing is respect. I have a Baptist friend who invited me to their church, and even though I disagreed and was confused on some of their topics, I knew immediately that I loved all of them and respected their beliefs.

I know this is a late comment a year later but I just found this show and been watching it the last couple days😂 anyways I just got my cal 2 months ago and im going to the El Salvador, San Salvador East mission, and i don't have much of an idea of what its like... if u reply back any info?

@@daveyjones9930 Probably out of excitement. It isn't instinctual to repeat the same info to try and convince oneself of it's authenticity. Usually you'd find new evidence.

Hi! By saying this, he meant to say that, among the people she taught, 1 accepted the invitation to be baptized by a priesthood holder. Although she didnt literally baptized this sole person, she was rather important in this process.

Mike Dee if you talk to your bishop, there are sometimes exceptions, or specialized missions that are just as meaningful and rewarding!

Young converts can go on missions, you do not have to be born into the church. You generally have to wait a year after being baptized I think. Justin and David can correct me if I'm wrong. When I was on my mission, the cutoff age for young men to serve was 28. However, you can always go on a mission with your spouse as senior missionaries later in life. As they say though every member can be a missionary. By that I mean you don't have to have a name tag to share the gospel. There are also other kinds of missions too, called service missions, that help people around the world.

宮崎佑喜 There was a missionary like that in my mission. He converted at age 27 and wanted to serve a mission. At 28 he went on his mission. He was a great missionary and his maturity was helpful to us all.

Yeah, you’ve got it right. Right now the cut off is you have to leave before you turn 26, BUT the church will make exceptions depending on your circumstances. Men, even recent converts, are always encouraged to go. But because it is a huge commitment financially and time-wise, the church understand when converts who are already in their 20’s (for example) aren’t in a position to serve as young men. Many still do, it’s just not as pushed. But when raised in the church, you have time to prepare and understand that duty if that makes sense :)

Both my mom and dad serve on a mission after being Baptised at the twenties. The thing is at this age is more easy to serve becuase some people have not families and later( i am talking about 30) is morr likely to have your own family. And you can serve later on with your wife.

As to my knowledge, there isn't any restrictions for men and women that have tattoos that want to serve. I served with a few elders on my mission in Oregon that had a few tattoos. The rule in my mission at least was that they had to be covered while you were out talking to people.

We teach the gospel of Jesus Christ to investigators, the core of what the Church is about. Faith in Jesus Christ, Repentance, Baptism, the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End. There's naturally a little history mixed in there (Joseph Smith's first vision), but if you're referring to the number of controversial topics in our history, no we don't usually get into that very much. Not because we're trying to hide anything (it's all available to learn about on the Church's website) but because it's tangential to a missionary's purpose. But if someone interested int he Church has questions, sure we'll talk about it.

18 for boys and 19 for girls is just the youngest you can go. If things haven't changed 28 is the cut off age. My brother left on his when he was 20, so you should be fine😁 As for only serving one year, I'm not sure if it's an option.🤔 (Although, you could serve only one year, and then ask to be sent home early. Its probably not seen as honorable, But you didn't hear this from me🤐)

It depends. Do you think you should go? And do you believe the Lord wants you to? If the answer to those are yes, then it is fully worth it. I only served a proselyting mission for exactly 3 weeks, with the impression it would be one of the most important times of my life. It was, but not because of the experience (though it was fabulous too). I had something to learn, and learn it I did. (and yes, I'm aware that this is 2 years late...)

It's truly an amazing experience, you learn to completely rely on the spirt of the Lord! Who guides you to those that are ready to learn the gospel! I have been in many other churches, but they all felt dead, there was no spirt at all in the because they were man made, not from the Lord! And the Temple is another beautiful experience the world loves to put down ,but the Temple truly is amazing, to be in God's holy house! And when we go there for the first time to the Temple, that's when we get our garments, they have beautiful symbols on them for us to be reminded of the promises we have made to the Lord and the promises he has made with us!

THIS "conspiracy theory" is not a theory. It's now a conspiracy *FACT* ... The IRS will determine whether or not it's a theory or fact.

David Snell it's a computer program that tracks how many missionaries are needed where. It has nothing to do with the spirit. It doesn't matter if "the spirit" tells them you need to go to a certain mission in England, for example, if there aren't openings.

Your photograph comes up on a computer screen, together with key information provided by your bishop and stake president. When your picture appears, we look into your eyes and review your answers to the missionary recommendation questions. As we look at your photograph, we trust that you have cleared in every way the 'raised bar' required today to be a faithful, successful missionary. Then, by the power of the Spirit of the Lord and under the direction of President Thomas S. Monson, we assign you to one of the Church’s 406 worldwide missions." I see a healthy combination of both technology and the Spirit here. And seeing as how this is coming from someone who has actually gone through the process of calling missionaries, I'm liable to believe him. Of course, you're right in that if one mission's missionaries suddenly disappeared, yeah, they'd probably be quickly replaced. But I don't think that means that those who would be sent to that mission wouldn't be sent through inspiration. My opinion though. I don't mind disagreement as long as it's respectful.

David Snell That doesn't sound very plausible or even truthful. They don't have the time to look into the eyes of every missionary's picture. It's technology. They may read the bios, but that makes it be a more logical conclusion. It's not the spirit telling you to send someone to a Spanish speaking country if they have studied spanish...it's logic.

I don't disagree that logic plays a part. What you're saying makes sense. I think when we say "it was done through inspiration by the Spirit" we often interpret that to mean there was some sensational spiritual occurrence that happened in the process, which isn't always true (I'd say that's rarely the case). Many people are in the habit of praying every night before they go to bed. It's a seemingly simple, normal thing to do, but I think things like that are still inspired by the Spirit. I guess I'd just say that even though logic and technology have their place in the process, that doesn't mean the Spirit has no part in it. Also I think that oftentimes when trying to make decisions (such as making missionary assignments) the Lord often allows us to decide (lets us use our agency) and then approves or disapproves of the decision. Oftentimes there's more than one right answer. I wouldn't be surprised at all (nor would it affect my testimony) if the Brethren did their best to prayerfully make missionary assignments (using logic and technology as you've described), and the Spirit gives them the proverbial "sounds good to me."
