It’s been my “goal watch” for decades. I pick mine up in 2 days. I have condensed my Breitlings, Omegas, Panerai…and Datjust2 for this I am done with a rotation. One and done Very excited. Love the simplicity and elegance of the champagne dial and really love the subtleties of the Roman markers. It is the Gold standard. Proud of my accomplishments
It took you decades to afford a watch that cost under $20,000 and had to sell a bunch of others to do it, that's sad. Hell I bought a Submariner for myself when I graduated undergrad and had a Breitling in undergrad. Also no one cares about your accomplishments, we will all be dead eventually and all this will mean nothing. 🤷♂

I was in Bermuda last year and we took a private tour of the island. Our guide, a man in his late 60’s, was wearing a yellow gold Daydate 36 black dial that his wife gifted him on his 45th birthday. She is a VP at one of the international insurance companies that make Bermuda home. I mentioned nice watch and he told me he’s worn it everyday and everywhere since receiving it including the UK which he travels to every few years. I told him to be careful next time he goes.
I agree with the one negative point. The baggage that comes from wearing a gold Rolex. Living in California, I'm very, very careful when and where I wear it. It sucks because, like you, I would wear it much more often, but that's not the world we live in.

In many of the major cities, SF, LA, Sacramento, San Diego..etc., I am very careful. Even the smaller cities I've been, Lodi, Bakersfield, Stockton, I'm still very careful. You even have to be careful with rich areas. People get robbed walked down Rodeo dr in LA... so even rich areas are targeted.
I'm in the LA area and I feel you. 100% tissot prx 18k fluted gold bezel for most days little more under the radar but to those who know it still stands firm.

IT'S A TIMELESS CLASSIC. I wear mine all the time and very few people notice it. It's really comfortable and just makes me feel good to know that I have a grail watch on my wrist. I have other rolex and omega and even solid gold patek.... This is my favorite. Enjoy. Thanks for the great review
You’d be surprised. A lot of people assume these are fake gold generic watches or a fake Rolex. Probably would be more likely to get robbed with a submariner
Wow. Yesterday I literally considered messaging you Bruce for an update on this beauty! You answered my questions. I love this watch and your perspective. It's my grail and I've looked at other brands closely as well. But the President speaks to me as few others. When I started my career in the 1980s, top executives treated themselves to the Day-Date. I honestly thought it was douchy but years and maturity have clearly altered my view. Luxury, if one is fortunate and so choses, is a delightful treat and regardless of reason, is a personal choice that I respect. For me, I rarely wear my Rolex DJs exposed. My two-tone is a personal satisfaction experience and I love to take a peek under the long sleeves. That's just me - so should I be fortunate to find the perfect 118238, (my price comfort range), I believe I would not expose it. I do laugh though at your qualifier one year later; "almost" a one-watch guy. Ha. You "were" a one-watch fella when your classy DD first appeared! Congrats and thanks for the great segment! And it's cool that you're indifferent to scratches.
Even here in FL, the Day-Date carries business implications. Had a client that wore a Day-Date for some 40 years. During Covid, I needed to raise my prices. He threw an absolute fit. Next time I saw him , he was wearing an 80s TAG. Why? It's hard to pretend you can't afford modest price increases while simultaneously showing everyone how wealthy you are. It also works in the reverse. Harder to justify your pricing to clients when you're flossing wealth in their face. It's a catch-22.
Ehh, I would expect someone who was very good with money to negotiate pretty hard and push back against any price increases - it's just good business sense.

That is a stunning watch. Anyone would wear the day date with pride. The current climate around high end watches and mugging makes me nervous. I have several watches the I absolutely love. The fact that I have become too nervous to wear them in public has diminished the pleasure of ownership. Your day date is a true work of art. I’m glad you have given your watch the wrist time it deserves.
Fair point. To me, it's special occasions or always long sleeves or known environments first. Second, insurance. Traveling, it stays home unless someone is getting married.
You can avoid that only negative by getting the white gold day date 40, I have mine with the olive green dial that I bought in white gold to tone down the flashiness and it has been a joy to wear basically everywhere, I rarely use the rest of my Rolex heavy collection.
Just got my first watch from my local AD!! Two tone yellow gold DJ 41 with fluted bezel and champagne diamond dial. Couldn’t be happier with it. One day I’ll have the watch you have. That’s the pinnacle of class.
It's so not my kind of watch, but I enjoyed your presentation very much. It's great to see an ultimate purchase like this being used as daily wear. What you said about wrist time is true - my Rolex was my main wear until it was knocked off my wrist by a Tudor 4 years ago. Currently my only gold wristwatch is a JLC dress watch, which is where I kinda believe gold best belongs.
My Tudor BB Bronze Boutique Edition is among my favorites. I meticulously keep patina away. It looks like a soft red gold. A beauty and the price point is quite attractive.
Great assessment. You’re right about the dd vs other brand’s full gold watches. Over the years I’ve slimmed down my collection to almost only Rolex, and that was based on just wrist time. Not because they are Rolex, just because they are my favourites as pieces. The Sub is my daily work wear. GMT Batman for weekends and travel. The Datejust for a suit and/or slimmer cuff. The only other watch I want, despite no bracelet is a JLC Calendar.

I found every single friend sent my messages that rolex was crashing in price. Love it because I'll never sell any. And with my gorgeous wife 41 years younger.... Omg... Lol... I have a gold Rolex, I wear it at home and enjoy it for myself. The risk of wearing a fine piece in public dealing with the atmosphere we’re living in America with all this crime isn’t worth the risk.
Excellent video covering everything we need to know about this watch from the owner experience perspective. I was very lucky to wear your watch recently during a visit and it has an understated elegance to the full gold Rolex experience that is unlike any other gold watch I have ever worn.
Sold my Day-Date after a few months, too uncomfortable, still didnt't fit even with the 1/4 link, too top heavy, bracelet is insanely sensitive, caseback surface on the wrist is too small, so it hurts after some time. I only go for sportsmodel when I go for gold now, better fit and oysterclasp helps a lot, also in the summer (easylink).
It's sad that so many people live in crappy places where law enforcement will not protect them and they are not allowed to protect themselves. They are like sheep with no shepherd watching the flock.
Most people are wearing this going from their home to their office and back. They will get you are your home if they want it along with the rest of your stuff. LOL
@@venom5809 yup take it from me I had this exact watch (228238 but with silver dial) robbed at gunpoint. I just bought it again for my birthday a year and a half after the robbrey. the watch is more for myself and my accomplishments so I'm much more wary about where I wear it out.
I have a steel submariner and one day I want to get one of these. Im a machine repair technician and daily wear my sub. I was a multi watch kind of guy before I got my sub, now I’m pretty much a one watch guy. TBH I’d get a gold day date now but I know I’d just beat it up. Lovely watch, it really looks good, I like the dial choice too. I’d consider that dial or the same color but lumed.
This watch is SUCH a stunner. Honestly, Bruce, I didn't think you would keep at a year. I'm "dabbling" in gold (sort of) myself with my two-tone SD43, had it 15 months now. TT Root Beer is next, but gonna have to wait, as I just took delivery of my YM 40 Rhodium last week, My AD has been good to me. If you get out this way this summer, let me know, would be good to see you again.
I got a omega speedmaster professional because of the city I live in. I have only ever been approved by other watch guys to compliment me on my watch. Rolex is great but I have had friends have issues wearing their Rolex in major cities.
The beautiful building that was shown at the first of the video is OC Tanner in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is the very best in jewelry and watches. I too have purchased a Rolex from this establishment and I was absolutely pumped that I was able to afford to even go into the store. Mine is just a Date-Just in stainless steel, not gold. If I’m ever wealthy enough to buy the Day-Date in either white gold, platinum, or yellow gold I will feel incredible. Cheers Bruce, you hit a home run and I’m thrilled for you…

Yellow gold, champagne Stick dial. CLASSIC! I love it. My only worry would be the softness of the gold, but hey, maybe I could wear it daily. My own story is I have a Royal Oak 15500 (Blue!) for fancy, and a polar explorer for daily - and OK yes, I have several other watches that I don't wear much. The A.P. is super delicate, but the Day-Date can definitely be that one-watch cross-over. Fancy and reasonably robust. To my eyes, you picked the classic configuration. Mad respect! One caveat: Security could be a big issue, but it depends on your situation - it might not be that big. If someone takes my Polar, it's replaceable. My A.P.'s another matter.

Beautiful President. I have the same 18k Rolex with the black diagonal motif. Despite the weight it’s super comfortable to wear. Although I generally wear mine on special occasions and nice dinner outings. My daily wear is a two-tone GMT Master II (zombie). I also travel for work extensively (pilot) so it’s quite functional.
I have the 36mm rose gold day date with gold dial and diamonds. It's gorgeous but I don't wear it as often as I would like. I wish the bracelet had a micro adjustment. It fits fine but I would prefer it a tad looser. If the AD puts the removed link back in then it is far too loose. I can't wear it on a hot day because it feels just a bit too tight. That's my only complaint about this watch.
Totally fair appraisal, man. Its a great watch. Yellow gold totally underrated. I'm always tempted by these, but would prob go 36 - I just prefer the classic proportion.
I own a two tone date just, but I sold the gold day date I inherited. i felt uncomfortable wearing it for the risk and even more for feeling I didn't deserve it.
Beautiful watch. My personal grail watch is the yellow gold Day Date with the green dial. Working hard towards it. I already have a couple of Rolex purchases with the AD, after the next one I plan on quizzing them about the Day Date.
Happy for you Bruce, as it is gorgeous. I dont think i could wear all gold in good conscience, but i do love a great two tone look. Dad has the two tone bluesy sub though he NEVER wears it. I wear an Oris D65 bico, and I enjoy that bit of warm color a two tone brings out. Keep enjoying it Bruce, be safe
It’s a beauty but definitely and an eye catching flex piece that non watch people WILL notice. Be mindful of where you wear it. In cities like NY people are often robbed for those watches.
The fact that there is no option to adjust the president bracelet is the only thing that holds me back from getting an Everose Day-Date. The VC Overseas system is genius, Patek copied it for the Nautilus. In that price range comfort is important and I wonder if Rolex will ever design something like the easy link or glidelock for the president bracelet.
Does the bracelet become „dirty“ due to sweat between the links?…Heard about that but not sure…second question: is the missing easy link a problem? Thank you 🙌
i have a couple rolex sport models and i enjoy how easy it is to adjust the clasp to get the perfect fit. How easy is that president bracelet to adjust?
Not that easy, there is no easy link or glide lock so you need to have it adjusted just right from the get go, not to tight just in case your wrist get swollen because you will not be able to make any adjustments
116233 is my daily, wore it all over southeast asia and never had an issue maybe a few quick peeks but nothing serious. maybe one day.. gold day date. And i felt that part about how having something you really enjoy wearing makes it so the next watch has to be "good enough" lol. Picked up a black bay 54 few weeks ago.
Definitely wouldn't me my choice of watch but that's why there are so many different watches out there. There is a watch for everyone. That being said the DD is gorgeous!
for a luxury watch of this caliber, the fact that it has no micro adjustment makes it so difficult to qualify as a daily. I hope they find a way to address that in the future.
I had the day date in the everose gold with the sundust dial and loved it. I traded it for a Vacheron Overseas ultra thin perpetual as my only all gold watch. I do miss the Day Date, however, I still have an all platinum 41mm smooth bezel that I will keep. I also have the everose gold SkyDweller with the oyster flex bracelet with the fluted bezel that I believe is stunning. The Day Date in all gold is an exceptional piece, I do wish I still had it. I may search for the same one soon. Thank you for a great video and update on what you think. The fluted bezel is my favorite.
Hi Bruce, that Rolie looks great on your wrist, perfect size and shape. also the yellow gold really goes with your skin tone and the hairs on your wrist give off a bit of ''maturity'' allowing you to be able to pull it off, not everyone can do it. a yellow gold watch i believe is not an easy watch to wear but you can can pull it off. the Rolex president is a beautiful beautiful thing!

I feel the same way with pretty much everything you said. I have the same with the baguettes. It gets all my wrist time except the times when I do something active (Casio Dura) or leave the US.
Love your yellow gold DD and would love to see yellow gold watches become more mainstream/accepted. As I recall, in the past a gold watch actually was considered a long term life/work/goal fulfillment and was not frowned upon like these days. It is a bit sad that people might refrain from buying and enjoying a gold watch out of fear from being robbed or other peoples negative opinion about the piece and its wearer.
Enjoy. But there’s nothing “practical” about an all gold luxury watch. This piece is bling. Cannot ignore that. Strangers judge it as either real or fake.

Bruce, it’s an unbelievable watch. Why? Classic timeless design, goes with suits and jeans, gold..can’t be beaten. Period. It also has massive clout people know what it is. I’ll be getting one soon.
Don't wear it anywhere where you are going to negotiate a price. Car salesman in particular pay attention to watches. Bulova makes a watch all be it quartz looks very much like that one, and you don't have to set the time in the morning because it is always spot on. So yes you bought that watch to let people know you have that kind of credit, if it is not paid for yet, the bank owns it you don't.
4:39 Bruce, is there a reason the crown is unscrewed? Presume it's just because you wanted to set it to an appealing time or had just wound it up. But wanted to check you don't store it unwound and if so, why?
What size is this? I would love to buy a vintage 36, but there is no way I can buy a 40mm. I have a 7.5”-7.7” wrist. Furthermore, there are definitely places where I cannot wear this watch.
