Elevated insulin limits the ability for our kidneys to regulate sodium causing water retention and hypertension. Lower the isulin and the body can regulate consumption accordingly. Did any of the studies mentioned here look at insulin?

Pure metabolic water is produced from fat metabolism. That 18 yr old must have had some fat reserves.
