Have you ever experienced this phenomena in GT7, where you turn your steering wheel, but suddenly feel that nothing is happening? Or you even see it in the replay, where you clearly turn your steering wheel, but the front wheels don’t, and then some moment later they suddenly turn to where they are supposed to be.
This happens because of a flaw in your suspension setup, where the front wheels get stuck against the fenders, when the front suspension is compressed, and which stops them from rotating. So you keep turning but the car doesn’t respond, until your front suspension decompresses and releases the front wheels again.
In this video I show how this works and how to avoid it.

Damn i thought this was a bug cause there was no way the game detected fender rubbing, but after a lot of searching turns out its just very detailed in suspension physics

Similarly, the amount *negative camber* affects the front wheels clearance from the fenders too. On my RC drift car, it is common to experience front wheels rubbing the fenders because we like low car body and wide track width for the aggressive looks, and one way to fix it is to apply more negative camber. Not only does negative camber helps reduce rubbing fenders, it also improves the steering geometry.
@SimActionClips
@SimActionClips Год назад
That's also true, but too much negative camber can ruin the handling, so it depends on the whole setup of the car and the purpose of it.

The sharp corner of green forest raceway is a great turn to test this on. Somehow this is the track where i have this issue the most.
@SimActionClips
@SimActionClips 9 месяцев назад
True, it's because that turn creates more body roll than other because it's cambered to the outside in addition to the elevation change which shifts the weight of the car more to the front

@@SimActionClips I drove the corvett c3 on road atlanta almost stock and reached 2nd place then tried the sierra tuned to max. I did notice in some cornes that the sierra wont turn at all and skipped some centimeters on the red dot indicator when steering. I thought my wheel was set at a wrong degree at first. I had that problem with a few engine swapped vehicles. I figured it was a suspension problem so I raised it a bit and increased the spring naturally frequency. Those had the quickest effects on making the car handle better.

I noticed that the front wheels don't turn in time with the steering inputs on the controller a while back (same issue with the steering wheel on the in car view) which annoyed me when watching replays. So I moved to the motion control function of the controller to steer which worked fine up until a recent update where i've noticed that whilst the in-car steering wheel roughly turns in time with the tilting of the controller, the front wheels now have a same delayed response/movement which looks stupid on replays as the car still moves as per the inputs on the controller....if that makes sense. If you've not noticed this before, take any car and try driving slowly and steer sharply from left to right and watch the replay. Whilst you wouldn't necessarily do this in a real car, the way the car in the game reacts looks very odd. The car will move as per your inputs, but the front wheels in the replay will be slow to change direction and not move in alignment to the car. I find this so irritating that i've now stopped playing the game. I'm sure they've simplified the car handling too on a recent update too.... I wish they would stop messing around with it, or give the players the choice to accept or decline the changes they make lol.....

I have this issue with the Roadster Shop Camaro in high speed going through dips and over curbs. But it didn't start happening until the 1.49 update. Even with that being said it does happen with other cars as well . The Corvette gr.4 does it with stock setup in tight corners.

Hey man, thanks for yet another informative GT7 video! I have a question on lowering the car yet avoiding the front wheels from hitting the fenders. At 0:57 you talked about "wider wheels" requiring wide-body mod that I'd like to clarify. There are 2 settings: Rim Width and Offset. From my understanding, setting *Rim Offset* (aka Track Width) to Wide will cause the wheels to protrude outwards, which causes the turning front wheels to rub against the *non-wide body fender* if the car is too low; while Rim width set to Wide just means the wheels are wider, but they won't protude outwards and hit the non-wide body fender. Therefore, for non-wide body cars, we can se Rim Width to wide, but not Offset. Is my understanding correct?
@SimActionClips
@SimActionClips Год назад
Hey buddy, thank you! Well that might be right for some cars (or not), and wrong for others cars. I think I've seen the wheels also protrude a bit outwards when you set the rim width to wide for some cars. Nevertheless, I've actually faced this issue in real life with my BMW E36 when I only installed wider tires at the front. I wanted to put Nitto Invo tires at the front and couldn't find the required size. So the tires used to rub against the inside when at full lock. Also, as I said, some cars like the C63 S and the DB11 have this issue with stock suspension and wheels, when the suspension fully compresses. So I'm not sure this reasoning could always work.

@SimActionClips
@SimActionClips Год назад
You're welcome man. To be honest I'm not sure, but logically speaking there shouldn't be any, since the fenders of race cars are designed to prevent this on maximum compression. There is a way to test this though for any car, by simply abnormally abusing it, and watching the replay. You could clearly tell what's going on like in the replays used in this video.

Yeah that's because the physics changed. This feature was there since release but these cars didn't have their suspension compressing as much as now. It's still worth it though since the new physics were improved a lot. They just need to better tweak the default suspension of some cars.

Imo this is a stupid feature and PD should remove it. Anyone irl would roll the fender or mod the car in some way to fix the issue. It is impossible with some cars to set them up well and not have the front wheels bind. Sierra Cosworth for example is undrivable, wheels binding in any fast turn
@SimActionClips
@SimActionClips 6 месяцев назад
Yeah they need to fix it. It's cool to have it in the wrong situations and solve them with the right setup, but they have many cars rolling into that issue even in stock setup and wheels. They need to at least fix that.

well personally I would try to sell it and get one that is directly supported by Playstation. I don't like these devices that add processing along the way of the signal, because they will surely add more latency which we can do without. You might see people claim they don't add any latency, but I'm sure they do. Otherwise I would have bought some cheap Chinese DD from the famous ones in the market and made it work.

They fixed many of them after the last update though. But yeah they need to give better attention to details in tweaking the stock suspension to better perform like the real ones.
