I got it yesterday morning. I love the game. I just play it for a few hours then stop. I don't really want to rush thru it. I want it to last for awhile

They put boots on L, Sword on Y, and Power Braclet on A, all of which had to be equiped to B or A in the original. You didnt even mention the fact that there are less screen transitions.

The frame rate and lack of dpad support we're IMMEDIATELY noticeable for me. And I was surprised it's not been a stronger complaint.

I get what you're saying with the inventory system. Didn't bother me, but I really wish they would have had a dedicated jump button once you get the Roc's feather. I pretty much had this equipped the whole game so would have made a huge difference. Anyway, other reviewers probably didn't mentioned it because it was already a huge improvement over the original. You no longer need to switch out the sword, shield, feather and FRICKIN' POWER BRACELET.

I feel like the dungeon maker bit is their way of testing whether or not a Zelda Maker would actually have an audience. Though, yeah, if they really wanted to test that they really should've allowed sharing them online. I imagine most people aren't going to do so in person meaning it'll go unused by most even if they'd otherwise want a ZM.

The inventory isn’t outdated. They added at least 2 more slots over the original version... Does he not realize in the original you actually had to equip your sword and shield as well as all the other items...?

The blurring was definitely intentional by Nintendo. It's supposed to let the player feel as if they're in a dream. Because that's what the game essentially is.

BOTW had some as well, but it didn't stop the sale's and the amazing game play and graphics, to be enjoyed by millions, I think this is being over blown out of proportion!

As someone who had never played the original Links Awakening (i still want to, i know i probably don't need to anymore, but i will play it eventually.), i loved it! The only complaint i have is the FPS drops, that's it. I know you wanted a new inventory system but i think it's perfectly fine. I liked the story, i liked the gameplay, i liked the dungeons, i liked the music, i like how you unlock the key items, and i think the pacing of the game was perfect. Overall this game for me is an 8.5 or 9 out of 10, just typing this comment makes me want to go back and replay it, so i'll probably go do that. Oh yeah one last thing, the dungeon maker. It's surprisingly nothing special... BUUUT i really really really want them to make a full game out of it, like Mario Maker but Zelda dungeons. I want to be able to make completely unique dungeons with my own rooms and not presets in any of the 2D games styles, again, just like Mario Maker. I know that that is not an original idea btw, i know tons of people also came up with that idea and I honestly think it will be a thing eventually, at least i hope so.

I finished it 100 % rather quick because it’s pretty much the same, and the detector for the seashell made it quicker. I want oracle of season and age like this. Truly amazing and a must have.

This remake was my first Zelda game and I loved it. The metroidvania style item progression and exploration mixed with hand crafted dungeons and puzzles is just awesome. I hope to see more classic Zelda games brought to the Switch. I just started Breath of the Wild and I'm having a blast but so far I feel more like I am playing horizon zero dawn featuring Link than a Legend of Zelda game. I'm sure by the time I finish it I will love it though.

The blurring is part of the toy look. It's necessary to make the tilt shift illusion work. You may not like it, which is fine, but it's a very intentional component of their chosen aesthetic.

$60 is just a little too much for a GameBoy remake.

I kind of never want to hear "the game" ever again.

The frame rate issue is noticeable, but doesn't do enough to make the game less fun. Personally I kinda like the blurry edges, it's as if you're looking into the world through a crystal ball.

During my partying times, I used to spend $$$ per night. I'll gladly spend $60 for the hours over a few days that it takes me to beat this game while my newborn is sleeping :)

I’m loving this game so much right now. Links Awakening definitely needed a remake. Especially because on the Gameboy you spent so much time in the menus swapping items. Now we need a Zelda 2 Adventure of Link remake lol

That blur effect is definitely intentional. It's many to emulate the effect of a tilt shift lens which has the effect of making the subjects look miniature.

I love the game but I’m not paying 60, if the game retailed 40 or it had more goodies that made it worth the 60 it’d get my 5/5 but I’m forever giving it the 4.5

Just beat it, still my favorite Zelda of all time. I agree they could have mapped a few more buttons but I wouldn't go so far as to say they didn't improve it. The original GB version your shield and sword weren't even mapped, so at least they dedicated 4 items to buttons. I think what they could have done to really fix this is an item wheel. Hold down X to bring up a wheel, or Y. Heck even use ZL or ZR too, why not?

Considering in the Gameboy versions literally your sword and shield were items you had to equip, I’m satisfied with the inventory system. Shield is maps and so are the Pegasus boots, so I wouldn’t say the buttons are useless.

The inventory system is improved. Your sword and shield are permanent buttons so the time switching items is cut by half. But yea, a hot button or directional item dial would’ve been smart. **spoiler below** I like the blur. It is a dream after all.

Sword, shield, power bracelet and pegasus boots are permanently mapped in this version, where they originally were items you had to choose. Considerably less item changing this way.

I want to get the game even though I played the original just because I love the art style so much. I don't know why but i just get happy whenever I see the open world grass and the shiny trees and enemies. I also get so nostalgic when I spam b and watch the sword swipe really fast.

I agree with the Framerate issues. I don't mind the blur surrounding the screen and the swapping of items. You get a dedicated button for the sword, shield, and peguses boots. But I can see how they could have used an item swap feature like in Breath of the Willd's. I think the main reason was for the bomb and bow combo (I haven't gotten that far so maybe it's different).

The truth about this game to a person who isn’t familiar with Zelda titles is that....it’s actually really confusing to play. You will spend a surprising amount of time stressed over the fact that you don’t know exactly where you’re going. Like many other Zelda titles, there’s so much that the game doesn’t tell you that you. It’s in this sense that you’ll actually end up doing less exploration and more “trying to figure out wtf is going on”

the A button lifts, the B button is your sword, the shield is R trigger and bumper, dash is L trigger and bumper... the problem you're pointing out isn't a real problem at all. those are the items you'd normally have to switch through so much. i left roc's feather on x the majority of the game and everything was fine, no more menu hopping than ocarina of time or breath of the wild. probably went into the menu way more in BotW tbh.

The frame rate issue bugs me, also the blur effect messes with me. Sometimes makes me think my glasses are smudged. Lol

This looks like fun, it would be nice to see them do a sequel. I hope they re-master more games :)

I love the new improve Links Awakening! Fantastic game! I love the new music and the graphics! That claymation or modelmation looks really great! I wish they tried to do this style on the first Zelda and both Zelda Oracle of Ages and Seasons; l would definitely buy all three of them! Tell me if you would like to buy improve versions of all three Zelda titles?! Do you think it could be done?! What do you think?!

The FPS dip reminds me of playing emulated console games on the PC back in the day when I'd turn skip framerate down to 0. It's not game breaking, but it's definitely noticeable, and a surprise from a Nintendo 1st party game.

The thing I remember most about this game when I played it on the Game Boy, besides the beginning where Link is on the raft or the big egg on the mountain was going into the bed and having to fight these penguin like dudes that mimic your moves and having no idea how to beat them and how they could kill you in like 3 hits.

I don't mind the inventory system nor do i feel like its outdated. Sure they could've done more additions with the buttons but this is just how zelda is for the past 30yrs and unless you get a 20 button controller youre still going to have to pause and swap. I think that was an nitpick you shouldn't have considering we're both long time fans and know how these games work

They did fix the inventory system, you can always use the sword an shield now. Go back to the game boy Version and you’ll notice how Much better this plays

Thanks for the heads up. Just finished (for like the 5th time in life) 'A link to the past' on the switch. Same problem with frame rate drops but that didn't stop me from playing it. Can't wait to give this one a shot. Hope 'a link to the past' gets this type of update/upgrade as well.

I wish it had Dpad support too. My thumb keeps going for it, Link doesn't move and I'm like oh right... Seeing as they insist on us using the thumb stick, they could've used the Dpad for inventory items.

I would totally be into a remake of the first Zelda game done in this fashion

Truth is: This game is a solid port hands down. This was a passion project made of love and turned into an afterschool project. The game had a great rendition without the triforce, zelda and this side quest was awesome to replay. Also: Select glitch could of been a left in option. I want to see glitches dammit. Edit: RGT385 it had clear up a lot of inventory space. Powerbracelet, Shield, Sword, Run Button are a dedicated and doesnt take up space. You know how annoying it was to select the powerbracelet for a simple pot? Or swithout the sword or shield to use bombs or arrows. They honestly should of had the Roc feather as a dedicated button, but probably we could of broken the game by multiple button sequences who knows.

Nintendo should make an item wheel and map it to the analog. And use the D pad for navigating. Then if you count the x and y buttons, you could hold, potentially 6-10 items at a time

You know. When you leave a building there is a lag spike. For about 1 second. It’s very annoying.

The blurry edges are not just artistic..it's to somehow keep you from watching what's on the next* screen (cuz there aren't next screens per se, it's just a big continuous screen.

its weird that your biggest issue is the fact they don't use more then 2 buttons for items, while they in fact use 4, sword and shield are bound and can't be switched though, but in the original you also had to switch between those, so it's definitely something that's changed.

Every Reviewer: Hooray for the continuous flow to the world instead of the individual screens. Boo for screen rate drop. No Reviewer: Actually the individual screens still exist and are hidden by the edge blur. You can easily tell this by the regeneration of the grass and plants when you move to certain points just away from them. This regeneration is causing a higher processing of the game in those instances resulting in reduced FPS.

I'm really surprised a film maker like yourself doesn't know what that weird blurring around the edge is. For your information is called tilt-shift. It gives the illusion of miniaturisation.

I got the original links awakening when I was 4 or 5. This was on the orginal gameboy. My gameboy had a clear case. Then I got a gameboy color. I've been playing this game forever. Today I just got this version

I like this older style of Zelda so much better than the open world kind.
