it's tough to talk with someone about this....especially if they are at the level that I am here. There's so much knowledge that's acquired over the years that it's difficult to explain in less than 3 hours or more....and it's true...when we go on vacation.....it's time away as much as we can take it!

While I already knew your income was pretty much social media I really appreciate you putting it out there like that. Lots of people still don’t understand a person can make a living doing that. It’s a new age of entrepreneurship and honestly I don’t see how it can do anything but get bigger and better. So many people are sick of the crap that’s on tv and RU-vid offers sure a wide variety of entertainment no matter what you’re into. Thanks for sharing that!

A great video, Josh. The reason that your channel is of interest is because of the breadth of your content. Farming, animals, dogs (and aren't they well trained), tools, tractors, vehicles, cooking, product reviews, trade shows, farm visits, etc. What's not to like? We own just a few acres and don't have an interest in raising animals, but we cut wood, have a garden, use a tractor and chainsaws, log splitters, mowers, string trimmers, etc. Your video on loading string trimmers has saved me a lot of time and frustration. I grew up in the car business, so the cars and trucks are of interest, too. Finally, if you run into another of those $1,000 Corvette deals, let me know.

Appreciate your honesty and forthrightness Josh. I’ve been watching you for years. I think reason people have been asking this question for a long time is because people understand you can’t go out and buy 160 acres and spend the kind of money you do (tractors, equipment, watering systems, fences, barns etc) by selling a small amount of cattle. Most of us understood all along that RU-vid and social media was supporting this operation. Don’t get me wrong, you spent tons of time and effort in producing video content and that alone is a full time job alone. I respect you putting out this video and I appreciate your work ethic and entrepreneurship!! Keep living your dream!!

Then go do that. Some of us don’t mind being on camera and helping other learn from our mistakes or successes. If that’s not for you than there are other ways to still be successful. This is only one way of many to do it. The point here is to diversify and find what works for you in your situation. Get creative and think outside of the box.

it's not for everyone my friend...some people wanna pick a banjo on the back porch and some wanna play the grand ol opry What should make you sad is that people find that cheap food from the industrialized food system is more important than wholesome real food and supporting small business...it's all about cheap food....cheap products and a throw away society...that's what makes me sad

@@yeboscrebo4451 I can appreciate that. I’ve heard many say if you get in to it for the right reasons you can avoid that outcome. I’ve made a few videos so far and received good feedback so far. I’m still working to get comfortable talking to a camera. Not real sure where I’m going with it yet. My full time job pays well so it would be a while before I could leave it anyways. All I can say at this point is do what you are comfortable with and if social media isn’t it then find another way to create income. My ultimate goal is to be self employed. I just have to figure out what it is I want to do to get there and still be happy once I do.

This is what the entertainment industry does everyday. Not everyone is artistic , but there are many avenues and honestly when you do what you love you never work a day in your life. Farmers struggle (medium to small scale) with promotion, branding, and marketing. That’s what we are in the craft of “Growing grass” and sales. It’s now that the farmer has to take more control of his sales rather than just taking it to the butcher house and getting the check. It’s growth in our world and it’s not going to change. Farmers, agriculturalist have to get out of this old mind set. We have to grow with the world and expand our CRAFT with the age. I’m sure the Kardashians, Oprah, Joel , college professors, singers, rappers. They get up and do conferences, tours , shows it’s branding and a part of your platform to bring in the consumer. Maybe it’s just passing out flyers instead of being in the entertainment industry on camera. It’s just the growth of life and the way to make money and generate multiple sources of income. Any profession needs more than one stream just to get by in our world. Don’t look down on the industry. It’s other avenues. The goal is longevity if your into the market.

Thanks for being an inspiration and being open about this. As someone just starting out on social media, especially youtube, I give you so much credit for the hard work it is to put your content out there while trying to run a farm! It's so great when you get that traction and start earning, but man the early years are tough! And I actually wonder if there is any space left for new farmers to even get traction on social media especially since algorithms are probably not favouring small farms because of various things going on in the world that would prefer that people didn't promote being self sufficient! Anyhow, thanks for this video!

you can "think" however you want my friend....but I don't raise produce, I've sold honey online and lost my butt....we are a small operation and have limited supply and time, if I had 10 employees and a unlimited budget sure...I could sell produce. Imagine putting $50k into a produce stand or online retail site to earn $40 a day...it's just not a viable enterprise yet buddy. Sitting at the farmer's market all day talking to people about carrots is not what I wanna do for a living buddy

Bringing calves to auction, unless you bring them in the hundreds, is just not profitable anymore. Direct-to-consumer beef sales is where our farmers and ranchers can make a decent living beyond breaking even. If you are reading this and buying Walmart beef instead of checking out some local operations first, please consider doing so! In my area we are averaging about $6 a lb packaged and ready for the freezer available in 1/4, 1/2 or whole cow portions. Buying a 1/4 at a time, about 100lbs, is a $600 investment in good, quality meat I know was raised clean and tatse's amazing, box store beef taste's like crap after you eat the good stuff. Buy local, fill your freezers!!
