Back in the early 70's I bought a Donzee with a 289 C.I. Ford engine. It would do about 45 to 50 MPH and was the fastest boat on the chin of lakes I lived on. Time sure have changed
@@rebellucy5610 Not so easily really, the pilot is nailing it. i'm not 100% sure, but seems a Robinson R44, which is light but fast, with a top speed of 150 mph, but if the boats are running at... Maybe 120 mph? (They seem to be running really fast), so to being able to overtake the boats, the pilot is flooring it
Is driving in the whitewater of a boat ahead of you fast for speed? Does the whitewater affect the propellers by slowing down the bite they get in the water?
1:55 Goes for throttle up, and looks back to see the helicopter struggling to match the acceleration..Excellent Audio, with very little wind or other noise to capture the twin 1075's
The problem with the big inboards is you can't run them flat out for long periods of time. If you do, they won't last long. That's where the outboard has the edge. They can be run wide open all day long. Take the MTI 36 cat. It can hit 130 with just two 450R's on the back. Probably more with a new set of 500R's on it.
he got the name Donzi from a waitress that use to walk in and say “hey donzi” and i worked on one of these with twin 1075 staggered, guy paid just shy of a million for it and the motors have to be rebuilt every 50 hours, the 500 bulldogs every 100 hours would break every valve spring on the button
It's a good idea to get 2 extra complete engines and drives with props to keep on hand for that reason. It really keeps down time low and it let's you take your time on the rebuilds.
I really hope that's every 50 hours of WOT. 50 hrs is pretty poor for only 1k HP in 2022. We have cars with near that HP, and more, that people drive to the grocery store. For 20k miles before anything needs repairing, and it's never an engine rebuild. My truck is running about 650 HP and 1300 TQ, all day, every day.
@@littlejackalo5326 The nature of putting tires to the road is far different than spinning a prop through water. The level of abuse due to feedback is very different and the engines are more akin to race engines and WOT for sustained periods is sort of the design. And 650hp-1.3Ktq sounds diesel, these are gas powered pushing on the edge so things like spring pressures and cylinder pressures are near the limit. Add to that, saltwater environments are not friendly to metals. It would sort of be as if you took a high HP (highly modified engine) car and ran it over sand dunes at WOT for 50 hours. Maybe it has hundred more hours in it, but if it doesn't and grenades, it might be far more expensive for rescue and rebuild plus a "lost" run.
The black Donzi has seen 142 with the 1075's up grading now to 1200. The blue Donzi tops now Thanks to #PerformanceBoatCenter and #MercuryRacing 118. We where in the cruise in the black one at 1:15 had to slow her down for the helicopter can keep up we hammer down to 125 and then got off it again. With the 1075 and the current propping top speed is 137
@@MrLuisSotero Thanks for the correct figures. Truly impressive 140mph + for your Donzi ... remarkable. Looking forward to seeing (and hearing) the upgrades.
What do these top out at? I just got interested in boats like this. Watched another channel with mti boats and those look nice and haul pretty good with two motors. I think I heard one of them say his tops out at 120
@@tonychavez2083 you can driving a Corvette with a little bit of power. That will depreciate and fall apart fairly quickly . Also That really can't handle or out for perform a Ferrari. Or you can roll up in a Ferrari that will handle anything you ask it to do and will not lose its value. Basically two different boats that play in two different leagues but play the same game. They didn't baptize Donzi as the Ferrari of the water for no reason. All you have to do is look at the market and compare how many fountains vs. Donzi's are for sale and at the different price level when you compare or try to compare an apple to an apple LOL
WOW 😲😰Dam that looks like the most Fun you could ever have on water 'Geez the incredible noise of those massive V8 engines reving well over 8000 rpm is just V8 OPERA just beautiful, and not mention the fanominal speeds there going, wow I would do practically anything to have a go in one of those beasts ,so cool 😎
It does, but for people who aren't 😺, it doesn't. You're the same type of person that says to a Ferrari owner, "why would you want a car with 800 HP when the speed limit is 60 mph." LOL. Pure 😺.
Why aren't there videos of Donzi racing other boats? I see LOTS of videos of Outerlimits vs Fountain vs Skater in any combination. Why isn't Donzi racing those boats? Example: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rXPXWd6XGhw.html
