It is so nice to know a little bit more about you. I live in Houston Texas, but i was born and raised in Bosnia. I lived in Croatia for few years before coming to USA, where i live for past 22 years. I am a big animal lover and i dedicate my life to them both personally and professionally.
I am from the Philippines! I started my minimalism lifestyle when I got addicted on watching videos about minimalism. I love how they live their lives simply and as i apply it in my life, i saved a lot because I don't anymore buy things that are not important. Thank you for being an inspiration
Hi, I am from Malaysia. I started minimalist lifestyle since 2 years ago, because I love simple life. I started decluttering unused things from my room. I cherish quality more than quantity, and emphasize on value in every expect of my life, including habits, routine etc. It goes together with Buddhism teaching, wabisabi, zen, etc. So, i feel really great so far. Love your speaking.
It's wonderful that you are able to be the master of your life and not being a slave to society at such a young age. Thank you for your heartfelt videos.
Thank you so much! I am definitely learning as I go, but there are so many ways to live life and enjoy it without being a slave to society. I always appreciate your comment
Even though I'm a minimalist, I also have way too many plants; I like propagating them. I love them and love watching them grow. I will not get rid of them. They truly do make me happy.
Thank you for being so open. I live is south Florida Lots of shopping Miami-ft Lauderdale area. Lots of superficial people that I have distanced myself. I’m an artist. Love spending days at beach painting alone. Keep up your beautiful videos ♥️
You are a very nice direct person. Funny about plants: I decided to go head first into minimalism because I wanted more time to spend caring for my plants and a lot less time sorting, putting away and cleaning objects, yes my plants come first. I was born in Scotland, lived in London and then moved to Rome where I finally established part II of my life plan which was becoming a doctor.I’m still very busy working but now able to set aside time for myself leading to a very new sense of stillness and peace, I loving driving into the country with my classic sports car .. whenever possible, love travelling and curious about people and their lifestyles. Aloha
Love that you prioritize your plants. It's so simple, but I learn a lot from taking care of them. It's truly my moment of happiness in my day. Driving out to the countryside ins classic car sounds like freedom to me 😁 just amazing. Thanks for sharing your story
I started decluttering ever since I got inspired by your videos and it feels empowering to have control over your own items and the way it makes you feel.
Hi! I am from the Philippines and I love your videos. I started minimalism to get rid of overthinking and anxiety. Having a few things now made me more sensitive and aware to things that I need and cherish them.
So much wisdom. I am happy to find someone I sort of relate to, it feels like you're a friend. Subsribed to you last year where it was a trying time for me. Thank you and sending much love.
I live a hectic life even though I only work three days per week or so. I do not know how it happened, but your channel came to me when I really need it most. Thank you for your lovely, calming content. I aspire to a slower life and it has slowed down since Covid, but I have a long way to go to reach the levels you have achieved. I am a new subscriber from Washington, DC.
IVE BEEN WATCHING ALL YOUR VIDEOS FOR TWO CONSECUTIVE DAYS NOW! AND I LOVE IT ALL, THAT I KEPT TAKING NOTES SO I WONT FORGET EVERYTHING I LEARNED FROM IT. THANK YOU SO MUCH, TAKE CARE!
I love your photography on Maui, it’s beautiful and it really takes me back to my visits to the island. Thank you, love your content and peaceful, wise manner. ❤
Your channels truly inspiring.. thank you so much. I also adore your two dogs.. they are so blessed to have you in their life. So heartwarming to see their happy loving faces. Thank you again
Your channel is my most favorite one now. Thanks for recording this video with your personal Q&A. It makes me feel you are my friend now, haha. I don't know how RU-vid lead me to find your channel but it seems that we have a lot in common. I was born in Korea and lived and educated in Seoul, Vancouver and Mexico City. I settled down in Seoul and stayed there for 25 years. As the pandemic hit Seoul, I escaped from the city life and move to the small Island in South Korea. Still I need to learn more about the rural life but I am so satisfied with the simple and slow living here with my family.
Wow your story is so interesting! Now I have so many questions for you, but I'm sure I will get to know you more and more through your videos :) It seems like we have so much in common. RU-vid algorithm worked it's magic and I am so happy that we were able to connect through it. I admire your decision to move to the country side to enjoy the simple and slow living. Seoul seems so fun, flashy and glam, but the rural life is more what I enjoy too
Thanks for answering my Q! Born in Houston, raised in Seattle and currently where I reside with the husband + our pets. I’ve been practicing minimalism for ~10 yrs and have recently been interested in simple living and slowing down. Trying to find a balance of that while living in the city has been challenging but I’ve learned lots during COVID. I’m also continually trying to find a balance with my non minimalist husband, it’s been a fun journey. Thanks for sharing!
Wow 10+ years that is amazing. And I'm sure slowing down in a city has it's own challenges and rewards 😊 I am in an opposite situation. My husband was always a minimalist and I am trying to learn from him haha aw thank you Jackie❤
I started living the minimalist lifestyle since 2003 when life sprung on me that I had to accept I was going to be moving into living out of my car. And I had no idea for how long. The first time was almost for a year (10 months) but it turned out to be a positive experience and found out a lot about me and some of my very good friends that I still have today. I had to let go of everything I owned except for 6 storage bins that a friend made space for me in their garage and what I kept in the car trunk. And eight years later I had to move into my car again for a second time, about 8 months that time. (Cali is so expensive) Of course I have accumulated again over the years how much I own but I have always had the minimalist mindset to question why I am keeping things and have shopped 2nd hand first since 2005 :) I can say that at least 80% of my wardrobe has been thrifted all of my adult life, and now I love that I can find such quality brands so easily on Poshmark. Actually it's gotten a little addictive during the pandemic ;) wink ;) but I have always been a camping outdoorsy person. So when I get back out into Nature every time it provides that reminder of how little we really need to live :)
Hi Sophie, thanks for your amazing channel. I have been on my minimalism journey for about 5 years. But being a teacher it makes it a bit difficult. Especially being mindful is not always easy because you can not take a break if you are in need of one. You inspire me. Keep up with the interesting content. Greetings from Austria Rebecca
Teachers are so amazing! I can imagine not having the chance to take a break when you need to. I hope you take time for yourself after work :) Thanks so much Rebecca. I appreciate you so much
Congratulations on reaching the 10K milestone! Seeing your channel grow makes me so happy! I'm so glad i came across it :) you've been a tremendous inspiration to me and my slow living and minimalist journey. I started exploring this lifestyle because the excessive way i was living before wasn't a conducive atmosphere for proper rest so i constantly found myself exhausted from being overworked and got upset when i couldn't keep up with myself. I'm still working towards this better way to live and so far its proving itself to be worth it! Also thanks for answering my questions in your video! 😊🤗
Aw thanks so much Brandon. You are so kind and supportive! So happy we are able to connect through youtube 😍 and makes me so excited to hear that videos are bringing value. I am definitely feeling the benefits my self 😁
Hi Sophie!! I intend to work on being more 'soft'.. I admire that in you. It also seems you have a really good handle on life's stress. I practice yoga daily but I still have a ways to go when it comes to 'softness' n flowing thru life/ living in the moment xo 😺
I am working on being more direct and assertive. These traits are not natural for me haha. I think yoga helps me to so much to calm and have a relaxed state of mind as well.
Aww thank you so much Rosa. I actually did a calm evening routine which you might like: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VTniB-wsgI0.html I hope you like it 🥰
I'm from Virginia! I'm slowly embracing a more minimalist lifestyle (but I still find myself buying little things for myself). My boyfriend got me into it when we were watching tiny house videos. I'm so glad I found your channel! I love to see people slowing down their lives and being more mindful about what they consume.
Thank you! I love the idea of living in a tiny home too. It is definitely inspiring and such a unique way to live :) watching all the videos were inspiring. I am so happy to hear that you are enjoying the videos
Hi Sophie, I loved the Q&A and learning more about you! Thanks for answering my question as well. 🙏🏼I looking forward to learning more from you and I am so happy & thankful to have fallen upon this channel. Love from Florida! 💛
Thank you for sharing more about yourself Sophie 🙏 Really enjoying your channel and all of the information you share. It's definitely helping us along our minimalist journey. Sending love and blessings from Queensland, Australia 🌞🌞🌞
LOVED this q&a and getting to know even more about you Sophie :) Congratulations on 10+ k ! And also thank you for sharing my small channel in the description. I was honestly so surprised and delighted. Looking forward to your next video ❤
Hi, this is my first time watching your channel. After watching 6 to 8 videos of yours i decided to subscribe to your channel because i find it interesting and useful. Actually i dont usually leave comments but since i really like your content, i wanted you to know that i appreciate it. Iam wtaching this from philippines. Please keep on doing what you doing, God bless u and your small family with the doggies
Excellent video. I currently live in Southern California (San Diego), but am moving back to Michigan where I was born & raised and that's what has started the minimialist lifestyle. Plus, I was tired of dusting & moving stuff around that I no longer enjoyed. I'll have to give some thought to what makes me unique.
Thanks so much Marsha! I miss San Diego in many ways. It is such a special place. Moving back to Michigan, I am sure you are trying to downsize a lot. I feel the same. I don't like spending my weekends at home just moving stuff around. Thanks for watching
@@MalamaLife San Diego has changed so much just in the last couple years. High rises everywhere, including residential neighborhoods. The city's buzz words are high density & in-fill. Major redevelopment everywhere. I'm at the point of my life I want a slower & less expensive way of life, not bumper to bumper traffic & elbow to elbow neighbors.
@@marshabrubaker185 I visited SD last year and definitely felt the change! The crowds, traffic and congestion wasn't something I was used to. It is such an ideal place to live and I guess everyone wants to be there. I have to agree with you that slower is always better in my opinion.
I'm glad I've come across your channel. I started my journey 6 months ago but had relapse when I embraced plants in my life. I can't stop buying because of the effects of plants in my healing. For a while I forgot about my journey to minimalism. Recently, I came to realizations. I thought I am out of control so watching your videos kept me on track once again.. Hopefully for the better now
I have a weak spot for plants too. Recently I got into propagating different plants, but now I feel like I have way too many! I think there is such thing as too much of a good thing :D Thank you for watching and I am so glad that my videos kept you on track
Hi Lucie You inspire regarding your slow life. I also live in French Pacific island (New Caledonia). I just start slow life habits and I love that I m an anxious and stressed person and slow life should help me to be more relax and take time for me (meditation take time in my house). Thank you so much for all present tou give us.
Hi Malama! I think it's been 2 weeks now since I found your channel. I really love everything about your channel. Every time I am watching your videos it's like I'm just listening to a parent telling awesome stories to their child! You are totally amazing. ❤ My question is how would it affect your financial status of slow living? Thanks by the way I am from the Philippines.
Thank you so much for your kind comment 🥰 really means a lot. I would love to do more finance/slow living videos in the future and share my journey. Definitely look out for those videos!
Now found your channel today and been watching your videos, and love them💖 And this video says it’s uploaded Nov 29th and you say you now reached 10k and it’s now Dec 3rd, So four days later and your already up too 14.5k✨✨✨ Congratz! Ps. new subscriber 🤗
Congrats Sophie on 10k again. It's really early to move to Hawaii at 25 :) Impressed! I'm a bit surprised on the list of minimalism creators you like, because some of them is so so to me. You are much better haha... Can you also talk about how you grow from 1k to 5k subscribers? It feels really hard for me to take it to the next step.
Ashley! thank you so much for watching. These are the channels that inspired me to start my own channel. Even if I don't watch all of their videos now, there is a memorable video that stood out to me :) Looking back at my analytics, what really helped me grow from 1k to 5k was one or two of my videos. All I can do is post twice a week, be consistent in my video style, research topics, strategically tag and leave the rest up to the algorithm. Do you watch @vanessalau? her videos on growing youtube helped me a lot to understand. I hope this is helpful
@@MalamaLife oh thanks for the tips. I will check out venessalau. i haven't. I think for all of us to get to next step, it's always 1-2 videos. For me, it's the Bhutan and Singapore videos. but it cannot sustain. It only gets me to monetization. but that's it. how do you strategically tag? and how do you identify the topic? Some people said "i invented" new market (new topics), which no people searched. Do you create your own topics or follow other people's topics?
Hey Sophie! I loved how you opened up about up your life! You definitely have a lot going for you, and it’s been kind of a puzzle trying to figure out how you got to where you are. This really helped! I had to chuckle when you said that you talked to your husband about a lot of things! Gayle does the same thing to me, which is great, but sometimes it’s too many thoughts too quickly. Often I don’t absorb everything she saying, especially if I’m deep in my own thoughts. So many times I have to put up my hand and say “ Hold those thoughts for a sec, I’m thinking out something else right now.” I know I do not verbalize as much as she does, and it frustrates her, as I keep to myself too much. It’s really funny how you can think the same way as your spouse most of the time, but then there’s other times when you think quite differently. That’s a real strength because it’s true “ two heads are better than one”. This is especially true for really tough problems that arise. It’s a good feeling when your spouse knows you and you can come to an agreement!
Thanks so much for watching Mark! I am now wondering if I talk too much or too fast at my husband. He is like you ..he tells me that hold my thought because he wants to give me his full attention 😁 which is actually quite sweet. I am glad to see you back on social media ❤ hope you are doing well
Hi, I'm recently started watching your videos.. Addicted,, loved so much... I'm from India.. Everyday I'm repeatedly watching ur videos and following ur words.. Thank you for making my life simple❤❤❤❤❤
Love this video! Thank you!! Wondering if you could give pointers and tips on how to get into buying rentals. Really looking into this, but not sure where to start.
Thanks so much Heather! Oh man.. it took us a long time to find the right property within our price range. We bought a fixer upper and we have been renovating the house for the past year. Luckily my husband is very handy. We both learned so much from @meetkevin on what to look for, how to leverage, how to get started in general. Hope this helps!
Your videos really inspire and motivate me a lot. I'm a minimalist newbie and so far it's been great. Keep it up, Sophie! More power to your channel! I'm so lovin' it. You can say that I'm hooked! Hehe..😉
You are so sweet! Thank you so much Donna for supporting the channel and for watching the content. I really appreciate. Hope these videos are adding value for your minimalist journey :)
Congrats on reaching the 10K subscriber milestone, your channel's doing so great! And thanks for including me in your favorites list :) I love your camera work and the general feel of your videos, definitely a nice moment to relax and slow down with a cup of tea 🍵🙂 Good luck with everything!
Vera! thank you so much :) That really means so much. It was such a special surprise to see you in the comment section because I've been watching your videos for so long and I am such a fan of yours. Thanks for making such amazing and thoughtful content!
Wow u actually really reply to all of our comments..... Still a newbie concerning slow living but thanks for being such an inspiration to me.... Lots of love from Uganda, Africa. Keep doing what u do. N that video about our jobs or careers not defining us was definitely boom.... Peace😌
One thing I would love to see is a before and after video. I feel like so far I’ve only see the “after as a minimalist” state. What was your life like before?
Haha yes! We lived in a city called Oberursel near Frankfurt (although Berlin is much cooler). So when I found you through your videos, I was shocked at our similarities in upbringing and interests :) By the way, your house is starting to look so nice!
hi Sophie, I have found your channel recently and have been wondering about your hair routine too :D your hair is so beautiful! Actually, you are beautiful both inside and out and your husband is a lucky guy (I am a straight woman, haha). I enjoy your videos, they are very calm and inspiring. Good luck going forward :)
You are so sweet :) thank you so much! Also happy to hear that you are enjoying my videos. Comments like this motivate me to keep going, so I really appreciate it Tatiana.
Hi Sophie I am from England 🏴 I enjoy watching minimalist channels to help me with stopping my over spending on clothing, I was in a shopping mall with bags of clothes I didn’t need looked around me and watched women the same age has me 50 just browsing clothing and I thought is this it pointless shopping 🛍 I just fell out of love with it went home tried on the clothing and returned them and was lucky enough to get refunds £200 worth I didn’t even realise I spent that much 🙈 so I stopped and slowed down cut one night off my work ( night worker ) best thing I have done just feel more free and also near 3 months in a no buy and survived Black Friday 💕 I love plants too 🪴try Christine Kobzeff RU-vid channel if you haven’t already seen it x
Good for you! that is so cool you made the decision to cut your work hours and adjust your spending. I love hearing these stories where people decide to change their lives for the better. inspiring and empowering! I also used to watch Christine's channel a lot :) I believe she lived on Maui, not too far from where I live now. Such a small world. Thanks for sharing Jennifer and really appreciate your support
Hi Sophie! Your voice is so soothing - thank you for sharing your journey with us! I think the topics you discuss on your channel are a perfect fit. I know you no longer shop anymore but revisiting your old videos and Instagram page, I want to say I love your style. I wanted to ask where you used to shop for your pieces, as I'm trying to purchase more sustainable/versatile pieces to gradually shift to a more minimalist lifestyle. Thanks in advance!
Thank you so much Elle 😊 you're so sweet. I am making a whole video on how to sell clothes online and I will be sharing my account if you are interested ( I am size 2/small/25 pants). I used to shop brands like ozma California, first rite, tiare hawaii, magali pascal, thrift shops and local hawaii boutiques ❤
Thanks so much for answering my questions! But you didn't get to answer about hurricanes. Do you guys leave for the hurricane season? Thanks again, love your videos!!
Oh yes! we have big hurricane scare every year, but I haven't had to experience a huge hurricane since I've been here (hopefully it stays this way). Never had to evacuate or board up windows...etc. Maui is nicely situated in the middle, so less chance that it will hit us :)
Congrats on 10K! I know it's not time for questions... but maybe you could save it for later... You said in your video that you adapted to the island lifestyle and you love it. Could you explain the things you've learned or that changed you since living in Hawaii?
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. I think I might save your question and make a whole video on it if you don't mind! definitely gave me some things to think about :)
I have been cutting my hair for 2 years now and probably saved me so much money :) I follow @pickuplimes haircut video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xNzZqVUl28E.html
Me encantan tus vídeos, la paz que me transmiten, me inspiran mucho. Desearía encontrar subtítulos en español, me pierdo algo de lo que dices. Gracias Sophie!!
I love your videos, my dream will be to leave to a place close to the sea. I am French Living in Ireland. I am trying to adopt a minimalist lifestyle its worth it. Thank you Sophie❤️
Here in the Philippines, you can experience more than that without spending too much especially in Siargao, Palawan or Boracay.. The cost of living here is very low unlike there in Hawaii.
Ok I don’t know if someone already asked this but do you take any vitamins? And do you prefer tea or coffee? What is your go to brand of tea or coffee? And last question, have you ever considered farming or having your own farm/orchard? Thanks!
Thanks for the questions fiona! I love Buddha tea and numi tea. Also matcha is one my favorites. I love coffee in the mornings and afternoon tea time. I would love to own a piece of land and farm or create a community farm 🥰 this is my dream!
I am an Asian woman also, and I was like wow! when I heard that you are 5 feet 7 inches (about 170 cm?). You are very tall as an Asian woman. I am short and always wanted to be taller!! lol
