First one I actually learned was the Shibuya intro riff and then I came back a year later and learnt the whole song, one of coverts best tracks imo

Because of this video, it got me into tiny moving parts, got me deeply influenced by Dylan, I dedicated a whole hour learning this riff and ever since then I’ve been playing math rock and Midwest emo. Playing this riff is always my warm up and inspiration. Tapping math rock is now part of my playing and after 6 years of playing never thought I could be able to do that and still learning new things from it every single day. Thank you man for this video I owe you a lot🤟🏻🖤

This song is just so fun to play, first math rock song I learned to play, another great tapping lick by Tiny Moving Parts for beginners is the solo from Medicine

I've been doing a ton of tapping practice recently and have come up with a few FACGCE etudes that really help get control down... may upload eventually but I'm intermediate-level and insecure

I’m working on this but what I’m trying is holding the pick with both index and middle fingers for picking. That way when I need to tap I can use the index finger to tap.
@LetsTalkAboutMathRock
@LetsTalkAboutMathRock Год назад
Nice! I'm not sure how Dylan does it exactly because I have seen him in videos hold the pick in his palm and in other's have the pick in hand and use just his middle finger to tap them all. Doesn't really mater though, just go with what is most comfortable.

Hey Steve, thanks fir this great beginner tapping riff tutorial. May I ask should the thumb rest on the neck immediately after hitting the base note? When I do this, I sometimes would mute the sixth string.

How do you make that sustain? I don't have a compressor and the one from amplitube isn't enough I guess, with the clean amp I can't tap like this

What would be a good String Gauge for playing math rock?
@LetsTalkAboutMathRock
@LetsTalkAboutMathRock Год назад
Non in particular. If you are going to change tuning then you might want to think more about it. For standard tuning though just use what is most comfortable for you. Most players either use 9s or 10s. From there, if you tune up then the rule is usually to drop a guage for that particular string, and to do the opposite if you drop the tuning of a string. For example, based on a set of 9s for DAEAC#E tuning: D - 46 (10s) A - 32 (9s) E - 22 (8s) A - 14 (8s) C# - 11 (8s) E - 9 (9s) I would recommended using strings from a company that will let you mix and match a pack for this tuning, otherwise you'd need to buy three different sets of strings. this is the best way to balance the tension across the neck and to make it the most comfortable for you to play. you could also tune to CDDGBD for the same tuning a step down.

Thanks man, great tutorial. Are you using an overdrive or is that just the sweet Vox jangle?
@LetsTalkAboutMathRock
@LetsTalkAboutMathRock Год назад
Nope amps more of a prop these days. I'm using a Universal Audio Dream 65 pedal for the amp sound

It is really simple tbh but it can be tricky at first especially if you’re new to tapping stuff or math rock in general, just give it some time and you’ll definitely get it down
