Thank you for this Josh! I literally just bought a bunch of parts to build my rig and this does it all in one! Plus I get the hinge for easy access to the screen!
I don't have a need for a rig like that at this time, but that's super slick and badass. I've recently purchased an R6 on a deal and have been getting back into photography and video, and I've noticed battery life is slim compared to my old 60D. So something like this may be in the future for my setup.
This is a very affordable option. I like the way that the Cineback looks and works, but I’m going this route. Strictly because of price. Thanks for the upload.
I have been looking for something like this for a while ... Now ... after watching your video I have ordered one + the NPF holder from Smallrig + a Dummy battery ... I will go for the V-mount later. But I already have a lot of NPF batteries ...
Commented on your other R5c video and I a silly just bought this! To be smalller and more compact. I don’t even intend to run a cage on the camera just this and a microphone on the hit shoe and done. Got the 50wh battery too so funny I just found this video 😊
good news, neewer do a version of this alot cheaper (although without the handy vmount adapter), along with their very capable (on paper) mini v-mount battery but great content as usual Josh!
I don't quite understand why you want to mount the battery in front of the camera's screen. It is much more convenient to place the battery under the camera, like a battery grip. Two rods can go vertically with two plates attached to them - the lower one for mounting the battery and the upper one for the camera.
It's all personal preference. I like having the battery on the back because it balances out the weight with a lens and monitor. You can easily pull the screen out and use it like normal with this setup too.
These are cool little products for sure thanks for sharing! That battery does look very convenient. How long will that small right power for FX3? Thanks and cheers.
I love this because it makes the rig look more compact, as if it’s one thing rather than a camera and battery separately. Question, would this work with my Sony A7 IV? (also in SmallRig cage)
In terms of connecting the battery to the camera, does it power directly via USB C or is it always via dummy battery & d-tap? Also for the dummy battery you will have to keep the camera battery door opened. is the base plate elevated enough for it to sit unrestricted on a level surface?
Hey John, Love your videos. Just got my FX30. My R6 overheated too much, so now it's used for just photos. Have you checked out the Falcam Ulanzi system. The click system is awesome and just changed everything from smallrig to Ulanzi. Definitely worth it!
Great video! I have an R5 C too and watching that battery timer go down (even when not recording) gives me anxiety. Been contemplating for awhile but now I’m tempted to get this accessory after seeing your video. I mostly do run and gun hybrid shooting. Filming with this plate accessory is quite intuitive but for photo it might be clunky as it blocks the viewfinder, and one would have to spend time detaching the arca plate and stowing it away. I’m considering clipping a small rig v mount plate on my waist instead and tether a long-ish usb c cable to the camera only when I need to go film mode. Wondering if you had any experience doing that and if it worked well. Thanks!
You got it! I just added them to the description but here they are. The mini tripod was originally part of the monopod kit that I got, but they sell it separately. Sony FX3 Cage - geni.us/iR3MmP iFootage Mini Tripod - geni.us/jt7K
I need to mount sony nx200, flixion nano battery (v mount) , wireless transmitter and yolobox ultra on the same tripod, what mount accessory I can use to mount both together?
one question , if my monitor and camera have different voltage is it bad to connect them directly to the battery with D-TAP splitter or shall I be aware of something? or shall I get a v mount plate with the different voltage inputs?
I don’t have a R8 yet but would like to buy one for videography. If I use this setup and use a usb cable to power the camera will it always be charging it even while filming or will it only charge when the camera is turned off? Thanks
I believe it only charges the internal battery when the camera is off. But it should pull power from the external battery before draining the internal battery.
I have tried 4 Small Rig batteries, on 2 different R5C cameras. If the camera is turned off, and the battery is connected, the camera won't detect the battery when its turned back on. It forces me to unplug and plug back in the camera to detect the attached battery. Anyone else experience this with the R5C?
I love this accessory, but theres no way in hell this should cost $100. Obviously it might be worth it for some people, but mann....these camera equipment companies are squeezing every bit of $$ they can from videographers
Hi Josh, I have an eos r and rf 24 70 as well as several ef lenses, mainly f4 zooms, do I sell everything and switch to panasonic or buy the canon eos r8? I'm in a mess
I would say buy the EOS R8. I’ve had mine for about a week and I love it. The colours for photos and videos (especially clog 3, BT 709) is just crazy amazing. You’ll just need to have at least 3 more batteries, or get this rig for video.
Way too big and complicated. I just use a USB-C power bank which is small, light, powerful because it lasts ALL DAY and best of all cheap and unobtrusive as I use it velcro’d to my tripod or even put it in my pocket while running and gunning! No fuss, no muss, no weight. Amazing!!!
Sorry, but these dummy plates completely ignore the whole point of a V-mount battery by not providing any power distribution. Look up the Nitze N21-D6 for an affordable and practical battery plate. It’s mini V-lock sized, AND it has USB-PD built in, alongside two standard P-Taps for powering your monitor, wireless and focus motors, all from the plate. If you’re plugging your rig devices into your battery… just… I’m so sorry, that’s gotta be awkward any time you have to do a battery swap. I can go from one battery to the next in about 10 seconds with my distribution plate, and it’s just as small as this thing. My camera doesn’t even power down during swaps because I leave an OEM battery onboard for continuous power. Compactness of your rig for compactness’ sake is getting out of hand on RU-vid, this is clearly aesthetics-first rigging, at the expense of practicality in a real working environment.
Everyone's needs are different. Some people are just looking for a simple battery solution that is flexible. I agree, if you are rigging up your camera and have lots of accessories on a regular basis then a plate with ports makes sense. Some people just need this once in a while or really want to have a smaller rig. It's nice to have options.
