The Ultimate in Primitive/Survival Bow Fishing 

I will never forget my first time bow fishing in a billabong, modern/ish gear shortly after my 10th birthday. We spent 2 full days wading around losing arrows before we met an Indigenous local who gave us a 20 minute crash course in REFRACTION, and just like that we couldn't miss. All he had to do was hold up the arrow and say is it straight ? Then put it in the water half way and ask does it still look straight ? Simple, life changing.

I think it was just too many tips on that spear. You are hitting them with a bed of nails instead of 3-4 points. Its hitting them just not penetrating because of too much surface area.

Watch out for Snakes and Alligator Snapping Turtles in those ditches!!! I used to gig bullfrogs and trap crawdads in waters just like that. keep up the great videos!

FUN!!!! As a kid I use to shoot 30lb carp from the bow of a boat. Big fiish! "He can't stay down, not with 3 barrels he can't"!

Here in Oklahoma we call that drag net you were talking about makin a sein. Used to use one as a kid to catch trot line bait

I use the same river cane spear but I use metal for the tips. I know that’s not primitive but they work great

You mentioned how if you had the opportunity and the people you would make a net and walk the creek it would definitely be cool to see a video on making a natural cordage net and then fishing with the net

If you wet the antler it cuts far easier. Wood can be heat tempered in a fire. Makes it far more durable.or use hardwood Hunters used to kill mammoths with heat tempered wooden spears

Hello Ryan, can you please do a video on where you aim, when see the fish... figure it might be difficult to explain. But can maybe help noobs like me, that have bow skill/accuracy, but no hunting experience.

have you tested gar scales as arrowheads ? you can grind the edges pretty sharp , they work better with the natural serrations removed i believe .. nice catch and good shootin !

You ought tie some of the fish and Dead rabbits to your legs and see if you can attract a couple of big Gators

Have you tried fire hardening wood points for bow fishing? I've had luck with that also alternatively sealing the end grain with an oil soak to increase water resistance.

Do you think maybe you had too many spikes on that spear causing lack of penetration ? 10:15 the bigger fish looks like a European carp, here in Australia they are an invasive species clogging up our waterways horrible bloody things !
