@@lasandar I don't have the smart controller, so I can't confirm this myself, but try the 5-direction joystick (that's the one that's just to the inside/left of the right main joystick). That works for the regular controller, and I'd hope they'd leave it working on the smart controller as well.
I’ve seen over 500 videos drone related: tutorials, drone photography, drone videography, products, accessories... you name it. Absolutely no one, delivers the quality that you do. To my personal preference you are it. I started this hobby with one vision and it was to one day do a video like the one you did on my town, Miami. I look forward to make it. Congratulations, thank you for sharing and God Bless.
Not only is this a greed to Tutorial But you keep her engaged you’re definitely not boring. I appreciate all of these tips I’m going to practice them for my trip tomorrow! Thanks for sending me this
Thanks! I was a bit hesitant to call it the "ultimate" tutorial -- I didn't want to oversell it -- but I did think it contained a lot of valuable information, and all condensed into one video, so I figured "why not?". Thanks for watching!
Definitely subbed, interesting to note a couple of today's DJI firmware updates focused on Hyperlapse: -Added ability to make a selection and adjust the flight speed and duration for Hyperlapse -Added ability to delete Hyperlapse and Panorama RAW footage in Playback
Thanks! I hope to make an actual dedicated Pittsburgh video eventually, but for now I was concentrating mostly on becoming familiar with how to use the hyperlapse feature well.
Those hyperlapses are stunning! I’ve had made my Mavic 2 a few days and made a couple but I will take on your tips and see if I can make some better ones!
Thanks Paul! I hope these points are helpful to you. Most of the principles in this video are applicable to other types of timelapses/hyperlapses, which I have done a fair bit of in the past, so I just tried to keep those points in mind while starting to work with the Mavic 2, and so far I've been happy with the results.
Thanks. My wife said the reason she liked this one more than any of my others is because of the samples/b-roll, so it's good to know that that's working. I'll try to keep it up.
In this case I used ND1000, which I think was too strong, but it was either that or ND8, which was way too weak. Once PolarPro releases their ND filters, I'm hoping to do some tests with ND128 and ND256, to see which of those I prefer for getting the long exposure.
@@BlueMantleFilms im looking into an ND filter also.. polar pro that is..do you think an ND 32 is adequate in addition to adjusting aperture to get the a correct/non blown out photos for hyperlapse?
I don't know yet. I read a blog like two days ago (wish I had the link, but I can't remember where it was) that showed that you lose A LOT of sharpness when shooting above f5.6 or something. The sample pics were eye-opening for me because the difference between f2.8 (nice and sharp, so long as it was correctly in focus) and f11 was astounding. It single-handedly convinced me that I won't shoot in f11 if at all possible. So that said, once I get some ND filters I'll be testing and figuring out which I prefer for video and which for long-exposures (such as for hyperlapses). I could theorize, but I prefer to do tests.
@@BlueMantleFilms that's exactly my thought about shooting when we stop down passed.. like what you mentioned f5.6 or more which Generally will start to introduced lens diffraction. ND filter still a must then! Thanks for your input again sir! I'll keep a look out on your videos!
Ha! Thank you. I've been very surprised by the such positive response to this tutorial, but happy about it, obviously. Thanks for watching! Let me know when you have some hyperlapses uploaded on RU-vid so I can take a look.
Will do brother! The weather's been a bit crap here in Australia lately, will get out as soon as the weather clears up and I get my polar pro filters :)
Close. Steubenville. But I imagine Pittsburgh will be a subject for a lot of my videos since it's more interesting to film a city than a small town and trees.
Cool shots in Pittsburgh! As a new drone owner, I wonder if when I travel to Pgh, if I can fly my drone and get footage in the area of the point and the stadiums, assuming there are no flight restrictions at the time due to games going on?
Thanks! I do intentionally try to give valuable information beyond just "here's the buttons you press", so I'm glad so many people have responded well to that.
Have to say again, this is a great video. LOTS of info in a quick format. Almost too quick. Having to go back can be a pain but having to suffer through long drawn out info is worse. Should have watched this today before heading out for some shots. Thanks! (Again.)
Brings a lot of memories for me.I noticed that also. I worked on the construction progress as a photographer from the top of the bridge platform towards the wall being built across the Ohio river. In the mid 90's, for Nicholson Construction, I took an 8 X 10 view camera to the top platform of that bridge to take pictures of the wall that was building built across the Ohio River. The elevator within the bridge column at that particular time was not working . We climbed with 30 pounds of photograph equipment on metal stairs with ropes tied to my halliburton cases for 150 feet to get to the top platform to take pictures of the wall.
What are the other two? I'm always interested in great tutorial and review content, but I haven't been consuming as much RU-vid content lately because I'm trying to make videos, so if you can point me in the right direction, that'd be awesome!
Me too! I knew before receiving the drone that the first thing I was going to do was to figure out how to put an ND filter on it...such a simple step to give the hyperlapses that extra edge.
It’s ridiculous you ONLY have 12.5K followers, should be at least 100K or more. Your videos and tutorials are really informative and just overall incredible
Awesome! Glad it was helpful (and hopefully can continue to be helpful for others!). I will try to keep 'em coming. But likely I'll need to take a break in the next week or two, because I'm starting to get behind on client work.
Surprised to run into such a professional and super-helpful video! Subscribed and just sold my P4 to my brother tonight. Will try to sell my Mavic Pro as well and then buy the Mavic 2 Pro. I will follow your channel and hope to see more great videos!
Thanks for joining! And for the kudos on the video! The M2P is a great drone! It isn't perfect, but it's pretty darn good, so I don't mind sharing my thoughts in that regard.
Wow bro you just convinced me to buy this drone! And THANK YOU for this amazing tutorial, its so perfect i dont need anything else! THANKS! New subscriber here fron the Dominican Republic
Great video/tutorial. Got yourself a new subscriber. The 9 people thumbing this video down are probably just drone haters in general..there in nothing to dislike here !
So helpful! I just got the Mavic Pro 2 last week and love it, but I was having some issues with it and wanted to learn more cinematic things. Thank you so much for this clear tutorial of the drone and it's settings and for clearing some stuff up for me like the firmware issue.
Thanks! I'll admit I was tempted to share individual clips on Facebook pages as I was in the midst of processing the hyperlapses and seeing how cool they looked, but I thought it'd be better to wait until I had a full sequence of hyperlapses. Glad I did.
As a beginner trying to increase my drone skills, I searched up "dji drone hyperlapse best practices" and was like "wow, nice Pittsburgh shots" then "ayy wtf Veteran's Memorial bridge!" I'm in NC now but grew up in Steubenville so I was a bit surprised to be mosying about the internets and seeing Ohio Valley scenes. Amazing shots and thanks for the tips!
Sorry I missed this comment! Thanks, and I'm glad it was helpful. Did you get a chance to watch the Post Production video? I've actually posted two...one a more step-by-step process, the second a more advanced processing, but less step-by-step.
I have watched like a ton of M2P videos, but this one is by far the best! Liked, subbed, love the beautiful shots, great tips and overall professionalism!
Are you getting the Pro or the Zoom? I haven't used the Zoom, but from what I've seen online it looks like it's still a very capable drone. Still, for my purposes, I wanted the higher image quality of the Pro. I'm working on a video right now that's a lot more real-time footage (rather than just hyperlapses) shot in D-Log and with proper color grading and such. It's been fun to work with the footage and see what it's capable of, and I'm very excited by it.
Your videos are brilliant and your tut is perfect. Looking forward to applying your tips. Thanks for saving SO many people time from trial and error. Peace...and nice piano :)
Thanks Rebo! And thanks for noticing the piano. I love it too! We moved into our house about six months ago, and it's the first time we've lived anywhere with enough space to have a baby grand, and I've wanted one for years, so that was a priority for me once we got here. We actually ended up getting the piano for free! There was a couple that was selling it for $100, but I think they were excited that it was going to a family with kids, so they ended up giving it to us! So kind of them.
You're welcome! Weirdly I enjoyed the experimenting, and it's probably because I already knew most of the principles I planned on following, since they were principles I apply in traditional/non-aerial timelapses and hyperlapses, so I was able to get results I was happy with by the second day of filming. When I'm getting imagery I love, it makes it so enjoyable.
Thank you for the compliment. I wish I could make more tutorials (it'd be great to do them at least 2 per week) but they just take so dang long (at least the way I do them). This one, between shooting and editing, took almost two weeks to make. I'm trying to get more efficient. :-)
Blue Mantle Films Well you gotta get food on the table as well so don’t knock yourself for not making them at a higher rate right now. Quality over quantity is the way to go! Thanks again for the great video!
Yep. My hope is that creative work becomes my full-time get-food-on-the-table work. I would love for stock footage to provide a full-time income so that I can work on creative projects as much as I want, instead of taking on client work that I'm not really passionate for, for the sake of a paycheck.
Loved the shots. Born and raised in Steubenville and saw the bridge in the recommended videos and said that was the veterans bridge. Awesome shots there and of downtown Pittsburgh. Also loved the tutorial. Thank you for the training and the hometown memories!
Greg Parker thanks! Sounds like that’s going to be my next one...hopefully I can get that made before my trip to Florida, otherwise I don’t know if I’ll have the patience to sit in a hotel room instead of going out and filming.
