12:23 you forgot that Pikmin 2 also introduced an elusive third type: the Bulbmin. They’re the weird ones that you can’t take out of caves and make 0 appearances outside of Pikmin 2. More importantly, it’s described in-game that they’re regular Bulborbs that have a Parasitic Pikmin that take control of their brains. The color and appearance hasn’t officially been confirmed, but we can infer these Parasite Pikmin are green based off of the Bulbmin’s idle glow, their map icon, and the challenge level titled “Green Hole” that prominently features Bulbmin. If we do see Green Pikmin, it’s entirely possible they could be Parasite Pikmin that allows the player to take enemies into your Pikmin army.
I had the same idea (for a new Pikmin type). I think it would be really interesting, and there could be a risk/reward system. Use them to control an enemy, and it’ll sacrifice your Pikmin, just like with poison Pikmin.
despite wanting green pikmin as it's my favorite color, I've realized that green pikmin would probably not work very well in the game. could be hard to see against the plant life
@@iBenjamin1000 we’ve had green enemies before like Swarming Sheargrubs, Skitterleafs, and Swooping Snitchbugs, and they’re still fairly visible. Plus, Pikmin 4 already showed off the close-up camera angle and defined shadows, so we’re going to have a better view to look at them and with a greater sense of depth. A Green Pikmin’s eyes and flower color would also provide enough contrast even in a grassy environment. I’ve seen multiple people bring up this same argument, I really don’t think this would be an issue in practice.
Maybe they'll introduce bioluminescent pikmin to use at night or in dark areas! They may even introduce a moon cycle in order to brighten up the nighttime.

Maybe they could pick up hot coals or something Also reds do have fire geysers they can take down, so a red only gate would probably be a line of those, or maybe they throw the coals at wood gates.
I was really hoping that pocket watch was a hint that we’d be having treasures back, just like in Pikmin 2. Personally, I felt that was most engaging mechanic across all the Pikmin games! I just loved collecting those treasures, and then reading all the crazy lore about them through the eyes of Olimar!
Yeah that’s my favorite part of pikmin 2. Getting to learn more about Hocotate was a real treat! Olimar made me laugh out loud so much with those treasure log entries 😁. I really hope Olimar and Louie are in pikmin 4.
In Pikmin 2 it had no day limit. No day limit felt relaxing as you could go through the game without trying to plan each day and not mess up on Pikmin dying. They should implement two options for players, one by default (day limit) and one modern (no day limit). Just an idea if they ever go down that route. Pikmin 2 mechanic and the treasure is why liked the update. Pikmin 3 is good but I wish there was no day limit. Thanks to anyone who reads this.

I’ve been saying this for the past couple years: Pikmin 4 should allow you to explore at night, with green pikmin being the ones that provide a light source.
What exactly would playing at night do? Would it be a super tough challenge mode where all the enemies are roaming around the whole level and new ones keep wandering in from out of bounds so you're never really safe or what? Being able to only use one type of pikmin would make many areas and tasks inaccessible. So it wouldn't really be a chance to make progress.
@@ShyGuyXXL playing at night would respawn all the enemies, in a harder mode with different strategies. And the light producing ones would work way better as a lamp so you can use all the colors they are just needed to be able to produce light. Have cave systems so they always have a use.
The new captain is a hocotation as well based on the ears, kopaiates have rounded ears while hocotation have much more pointed ones, which the captain in pikmin 4 has.
thanks to the Pikmin 3 demo on my switch i fell in love with the Pikmin series also the new character judging by their ear shapes they might be a Hocotatian like Olimar
As I was replaying the pikmin franchise I remembered something about pikmin 3, in the end of pikmin 3 the pikmin find out how to handle themselves without a captain, this could mean that the pikmin might charge towards active enemies without the command from the captain or some sort of mechanic similar to that, it might also mean that you can spread out your pikmin more than last time with them being more independent and doing certain tasks automatically making your progress more efficient

Another thing that points to new Pikmin types is the logo itself, as every Pikmin game so far has had a different color of flower shown, and the new Pikmin types share that new flower color. For example, Pikmin 1's logo was all white flowers, which the Red, Blue, and Yellow Pikmin all have stop their heads; Pikmin 2 had the 2 in the logo consist of pink flowers, which the new (at the time) White and Purple Pikmin have; Pikmin 3 had the 3 in its logo be comprised of purple flowers, which the recently discovered Winged and Rock Pikmin have. Finally, here in Pikmin 4's logo, we have yellow flowers shown in the 4, so that points to the new Pikmin type(s) having yellow flowers atop their head. I can't wait to see what the new Pikmin will be!!!
Also, all the flower colors we have so far, White, Pink, and Purple, match up to actual colors of the flower Sutera Cordata, which is nicknamed the "Pikmin Flower" as it is the flower that grows on the Pikmin's heads. So, with that being the case, it is likely that this flower color in the new logo will match another color variant of the Sutera Cordata as well.

The '4' in the logo has a new flower color, which will probably have some gameplay implications. This bright yellow looks like a light source, so I will speculate that we will be able to use pikmin during the night if they are in this yellow state (maybe we need to collect a type of fruit that transforms pikmin and provides a time limit to advance during the night)
I love how everybody is ignoring the fact that the new captain has an entirely different head shape, and pointy ears instead of round, but instead going off of the hair style to determine it’s a new person

The lower-horizon viewpoint, the lighting, the textures, the background...everything looks phenomenal. I always dreamed of a Pikmin game with more open, sandbox-like environments to explore, and this looks to be just like that. Still, there's probably going to be an adjustable camera to allow for more precise aiming during combat. Can't wait for more details to be revealed in the future, Pikmin 4 is already shaping up to be amazing!
On the new Pikmin colour, isn’t the ‘4’ on the title screen a sort-of orange colour? Might that be another hint about the new type of Pikmin, too? It certainly supports the unused onion colours theory!

I know there will be changes but I'm sure the core structure will be the same, using your squads to find migguffins and take them back to your ship, ship parts in 1, treasure in 2, and fruit in 3. I wonder what 4 will have you find, it could be anything.
I've noticed that the Pikmin games have been getting progressively less and less "wild." In Pikmin 1 there were barely any signs on human life, with only a few small hints like the giant bottle in the Forest Naval. In Pikmin 2 they added a TON of more human stuff, almost every single treasure being a relic from humans. Lastly, in Pikmin 3 they have pottery, gardening boxes, and a ton of other things that are evidence of human life. Now with Pikmin 4, there's even more, looking less and less ancient/forgotten.
My hopes for Pikmin 4: -treasures as collectables like in Pikmin 2 -Olimar and maybe also Louie being playable (in main mode) -All Pikmin being available (also in main mode) -new Pikmin types -lore to the characters and regions of Hocotate/Koppai -Dungeon like in Pikmin 2 but overhauled I will probably love the game even if most of it is not gonna be in the game.
Also if you notice the eyes on the bulborb are much less realistically detailed in this game. I suspect this might have to do with performance but it is interesting to look at
Well there might be 1 more clue, the 4 in the title is made of yellow flowers, the 2 was the purple and white pikmin’s flower, the 3 was the rock and winged (or attempt at), so that may confirm the new types have a yellow flower by default

It doesn't make sense for it to be a prequel, since Olimar is the first one to have found the planet, which was previously uncharted. What makes more sense to me, is that there ARE still humans alive, albeit a very small population of them, and most likely very scattered. I hope they give us a selection of captains we can play as, or better yet, let us make our own captain!

With this channel's consistent focus on potential datamines, leaks, and theories, every time this channel mentions the possibility of having 4 captains I'm always baffled that they don't back up their theory with the fact that Pikmin 3 concept art initially showed off 4 captains. I just think it's important to note that this is something they've already experimented with and wanted to do at least since Pikmin 3; not something completely foreign to them.
I think that the plot will probably start with trying to find Louie. He went missing at the end of Pikmin 3 if you read the journal entry for the last day. The ship falling from the sky at the end of Pikmin 3 was probably Alph, Brittany, Charlie, Olimar, and maybe the President returning to find Louie but cashed so they will have to find ship parts and other items to try and rebuild their ship. They will also have to find more treasures to fund Hocotate Freight and more fruits and maybe even vegetables for food for Koppai. The game will probably end with the team finding Louie again and Olimar recovering his old ship, the SS Dolphin.

Considering the fact there are 5 flower petals on a pikmins head and the fact the 3 bulborb have appeared in the trailer + the fact this Is the 4th game we do 5+3=8×4=24 and adding the fact that the butterfly flapped its wings 11 times means that on 24/11/2023 (or opposite if you live in America) we will get pikmin on the 24th of November 2023
In pikmin three red blue and yellow pikmin have white flowers all the time and winged and rock have purple flowers. The yellow flowers in the four might symbolize more pikmin types

That is a likely scenario since every single game after the first title have always gave us 2 new types: 2 gave is Purple and White 3 gave us Rock and Winged
The thing I know every pikmin fan has waited for is surviving past daytime, and dealing with the night creatures long as you can while you collect special night based items, maybe more nectar than usual or new creatures to fight, maybe a captain upgrade? Puzzles are a personal favorite, they're not really challenging buy they engage your brain for 30 seconds so you're not entering a monotonous repetition. Little stuff like the pulls weights, push blocks, tile/wood bridges, floating Lilly pads, etc. Enemies should have more diversity than just 16 types of bulborb, lookin at you pikmin 2 haha, you can Have the bulborb diversity AND other creatures if you want, but sacrificing one for the other seems wrong (Edit) omg your gardening idea is gold. 1. Adding water to an area would speed up flower growth 2. Water would allow water based enemies to migrate over 3. Flooding an area could let you travel over or through something with blue pikmin 4. Maybe a little bobber puzzle where you fill a tube with water to get the bobber to float and make a bridge?
I'm liking the idea of there being a light source Pikmin type. Probably Cyan. My theory is that there will be 4 Captains and they will be Olimar's family. His wife and two kids will have some reason to come to the planet together. In previous games with multiple Captains they always get seperated right at the start. I like the thought that you physically can't reunite with at least one of them before dusk and they are not in a safe place like Brittany was in Pikmin 3 so they need to survive the night. Cyan Pikmin would facilitate that by lighting up whatever area they happen to be in so you can see the predators to avoid/fight them until dawn and stay alive. The other new Pikmin I think may be orange and it's not it's own pikmin. You need to hybridize any two different coloured Pikmin (possibly by throwing them into an orange flower) to get an orange one until you get enough to release its onion and they can propogate themselves. Orange Pikmin would be able to survive in fire, water, electricity. They would not need to worry about any environmental hazards but will be quite awful at combat as well as being rather weak. It would take 2 orange Pikmin to carry an orange pellet, 6 to carry a dwarf bulborb and so on. If it's green Pikmin I can see them being an invasive type. Throw them at plants to make them instantly regrow or throw them at monsters to maybe slow the monsters down. Not too sure. Haven't given green much thought as I don't think they will come because they will blend in to the background to much and be easy to misplace.
I've heard a lot of people come up with new Pikmin types, but I've yet to see any that would really spice up the gameplay in a meaningful way. Rock Pikmin fundamentally changed how you fight. Instead of latching on to enemies, they bounce off. So you have to keep very different things in mind when you fight. But they also don't overcomplicate things, since you still just throw them like every other pikmin type. I've seen people come up with outlandish ideas for new Pikmin, but with no explanation of how you would translate those ideas into actual gameplay. You don't want to have to fiddle around with complex controls in the middle of a heated battle.
Worth noting, this captain appears to be Koppaite. They have round ears, Hocotations have sharp ears. Though I don't think they'd fit in with the other 3 Koppaites considering red doesn't stand out enough from Brittany's pink. I think showing off the new captain might signify a new party this time around. As for the clock, I don't think it being broken signifies anything significant like there being a night cycle you can continue through. (As fun as that would be.) Though lots have speculated it might be a treasure.
My guess is it's Olimar's family, he mentions in all the games he has a wife and 2 kids. And in the 3rd one Olimar's logs make reference to his son getting annoyed he is gone from home so long and so often. Olimar says he wants to go home and then take them on a space vacation in one of them. Could be a neat to have the whole Olimar family as playable in this one.
I kinda had this theory that the new Pikmin types would have gold/ yellow flowers since in Pikmin bloom there’s yellow nectar which didn’t make sense since there wasn’t a Pikmin type with it unlike blue, red and white nectar
My pet theory is the new captain is Olimar’s son. While it is just a color choice, Olimar’s son has red hair and the new captain matches Olimar’s colors Maybe he joined the crew of the SS Drake?
i thought of something, what if Pikmin 4 IS a prequel, and due to the logo how it's blaim than all the others, and doesn't have flowers or plants, is because everything is still intact, but in later games it got overgrown, and now the Pikmin logos have flowers indicating that they have a lot of overgrown plant life than Pikmin 4, but that is my theory
Man if Pikmin took a more survival game aesthetic, that could be interesting. Whether given the choice to stay on the planet after dusk falls or stay and brave the night. Or your ship is beyond repair (has enough power to hover) and you need to make camps, with your ship being the main base at each camp. Yes this means a seamless open world and the ship is your "fast travel" and the camp areas require some fortifications. So in the game you are looking for multiple things now: materials to make/repair camps, ship parts to fix the ship (then this allows for the 1st idea off staying below or going out to space for the night), food collecting bc your character now gets hungry (an upgraded version of P3's system) and collecting valuable items as this is the main reason you are there. Of course this is all just wishful thinking but i feel it could be a new take on the Pikmin series.
I would like a new mechanic like base building. Instead of being on the planet exploring for treasure the new character/s are stranded but their ship is so badly damaged that it can't be fixed only salvaged for essentials like the engine and air machine but like pikmin 1 you'll have to find more pieces like interstellar radio to send out an SOS but even then the protagonists will have to survive until the search party arrives (could be Charlie's crew). Finding food, fight enemies(possibly at night), upgrading the base, finding where to meet the rescue party.
Each pikmin game also introduced a new captain equal to their titles, Pikmin 1 Olimar, Pikmin 2 Louie and the president, Pikmin 3 Alf Britainy Charlie. If we want to really stretch it we could guess that 4 will have 4 brand new captains with names that begin with D E F G, to match the Kopites. I just hope that they keep the mission mode where they bring back all prior captains and colors if Pikmin. That was always my favorite part, seeing how the new and old ones work together
pikmin predictions: - Green the parasite pikmin; as seen in Pikmin 2 you will be able to throw them at enemies to take over and control the larger of the enemy, the more green it takes - Orange the light pikmin; small round, slow pikmin, that glows in the dark (to which I feel was hinted at with the glow of the four)
I could imagine that green pikmin might have some kind of plant growing ability. Like you guys said, maybe they lean into the gardening fantasy and making plants grow or bloom quicker, assisted by green, photosynthesizing pikmin could be a way to do that.
This is not gonna happen but imagine actual humans in Pikmin 4! Like that some of our species survied and the captains wander through the areas which humans live in.
I haven't seen anyone comment on it yet, so... I keep coming back to Olimar's design in Smash Ultimate. His helmet would crack when damaged, indicating it could possibly break. This serves absolutely no gameplay purpose in smash, so I have to believe it was a kind of teaser for whatever the next instalment had in store. Similar to Cappy's eyes in Mario's hat or, more significantly, Luigi's toilet plunger that was first shown in Simon Belmont's trailer, only to later be revealed to be a new mechanic in the then unannounced Luigi's Mansion 3. I know we've had Olimar pass out before in game, and the Pikmin would carry him to the ship. But his helmet was always intact. I wonder is there any chance we maybe play as the Pikmin themselves, no captain, if they are too damaged to go on? And the gameplay changes then, with no cursor or whistle to organize the troops. Could that work?
Firstly, I think that is still Brittany, just having had a makeover since Pikmin 2, and leaning away from the pink colour, possibly to keep in line with the primary/secondary colours used for the other captains. Secondly, Pikmin 2 actually had 3 playable characters (only using two at once) and Pikmin 3 technically had 5 playable characters (only using two or three at once) and concept art even showed a fourth new character. This leads me on to the detail I'm most interested in... the mention of 'Dandori' (managing and commanding Pikmin)... I get the impression that the ability to assign routes to different captains will return and possibly be enhanced, potentially being able to assign other tasks through the same system... and maybe we could even see specialisations for the different captains, perhaps with each of them being able to automate certain tasks. Alph is an engineer, so he could specialise in dismantling aftificial obstacles and collecting technological items. Brittany is a botanist, so she could specialise in removing plant-based obstacles, and collecting fruit, nectar, etc. Charlie is the toughest, probably specialising in combat and perhaps more 'brute force' based obstacles. Olimar is the treasure hunter, possibly better at discovering hidden objects and collecting valuable treasures. Louie's ravenous apetite would probably make him the food item specialist, possibly able to sniff out certain food items. I doubt the President will be returning, but we could see the addition of more new characters (although probably limiting us to the use of four at a time) which could each have their own specialisations... maybe one that can swim or one that can climb in order to overcome certain obstacles?
On the 4 captain things, how about this... 2 captains during the day and 2 captains during the night. Elaborating on the night idea further, how orange, or mushroom pikmin which are night pikmin and can't be seen by enemies.
Imagine if the new character in pikmin 4 is a time jump with the red hair lady being a product of Brittany and Charlie seeing as they have a somewhat mohawk front as part as they're hairstyle (like Charlie) and a hairstyle like Brittney's while being a dark tone down from the usual pink outfit, also in pikmin 3 I think Brittany made like a journal of what she discovered about the fruits, maybe the new character is exploring for more fruits / parts based off the logs that the previous team made, this is a far stretch but imagine. (not to mention the clear crush Charlie had on Brittany)!!
Honestly, i think i know who the captain could be. Maybe its Olimar's daughter... but just grown up. Could make sense, she wanted to be like her dad, so she decide to go and explore? Maybe... Also maybe this IS a prequel, or maybe certain parts of humanity managed to survive longer then expected (maybe cryogenic pods..?) But they died as well, and this is the TRUE last remnants of humanity. Unsure, unsure... All i can say though, is that i cant wait for this game.
You know what I hope for? More difficulty. Pikmin 1 and 2 were incredibly hard, and trying to play through, getting every treasure, with NO restarts is insanely hard, as you need to treat your purple pikmin as royalty. But, pikmin 3 was surprisingly easy to me. I just hope it’s pretty difficult, and that I spend more than 1-3 days just trying to beat it casually.
Curious how it seems each Pikmin game goes further back in time: Pikmin 1: Most of human remains have been fully wiped out or absorbed by nature Pikmin 2: Lots of human elements are scattered around and in ruins/mid deletion Pikmin 3: Most human constructs aren’t that damaged, if people disappeared, it was rather recently Pikmin 4: It’s just your everyday garden/park

I heard somewhere that the green pikmin are actually the parasite ones that give you bulbmin... so id really like to bring those in as a type of pikmin you force to get eaten to solve puzzles... and considering it could be over powered in a way, have it be either found or made via flower like the purple and white pikmin!
I’m on the fence about Pikmin ditching the time limit structure. On one hand I’d love a more open, exploration focused Pikmin game, but we already have so many open games.
The captian looks Hocotatian due to their ears being similar, and it's my personal theory that it's Olimar's Daughter, whether joining him on a journey or looking for him on PNF-404 after the incidents that took place during Pikmin 3
The clock is not broken, that brand of pocketwatch has a "set mode" which while still ticking will not move the hands to make it easier to set the clock precisely. It's a common feature in analog clocks.
