Just about to watch, I've seen around 2 thirds of your videos & you've convinced me. Ordered our first ev, so thank you. Keep them coming & it doesn't matter how long it takes you to edit them 😂
I love how you keep everything in the videos. The places you visited do look fantastic and great to finally see your works. I love how Flaviana is gushing about the Tesla and nearly home, all of the virtues of the leaf. Fantastic!
It all went downhill after Hugh Grant, posh voice. Hahaha. 😂 Great much awaited video. You two sometimes have opposing views but both valid opinions. That's why I love your videos. Great call on the auto wiper activation (water has to go down somewhere), Flaviana.
@@MrEV, it was our first time on the Italian side of the Alps and glad that we spent a few days there. Stunning as you say. Also highly recommend Otzi’s, the Iceman’s, 2-floor exhibit in Bolzano’s Archeological Museum. He’s still “on ice” to preserve him.
The normal rain sensors on cars work by detecting water on the surface of the glass, water does not need to fall anywhere. The reason Tesla's wiper suck is because Mr. Genius removed that cheap sensor to cut costs before the alternative was in place (using cameras)
Thank you for these beautiful impressions of the mountains! I love this area. My family and I've been on holiday near your location at Hotel Piné in Weißlahnbad (Lavina Bianca) for many years.
Flaviana! I can't cope this is so amazing. You two are so funny, there are no downsides. Your reviews are the best. If you were concerned about range, I thought the Kia eNero had 300m?
I think credit is due after I've given you a hard time on not uploading this video before. Well done, it is worth the wait! Sound track is cool. I would like to know the titles of the tunes, please. On a more personel note, I met my Spanish girlfriend online as well. We live in my home country of Denmark, raising our eight year old son..
Andrew I'm LOL again at Flaviana's national ranting in.the morning it makes me smile and when Gina is abroad it's my video of choice thanks please more trips to Italy when you can
to stop the charge and unlock the tesla supercharger you need to hold down button on the top and don't let go until the cable is out :) great video and shows how easy it is to road trip a tesla
I travel to Calabria, the southern most tip of Italy (1500 miles each way) and have done so in a diesel car for several years now. The south of Italy is the behind the times and I could not imagine doing such a trip in an EV currently. More affluent countries and regions have paved the culture change towards EVs but heck in the south of Italy everyone is still driving around in a 30 year old fiat panda.
Agree with you - we have travelled to Diamante for 15+ years now and although there are a couple of chargers in the town, they are slow, and the power feed to our villa is only the standard 3kW, so charging at home would take absolutely forever. I used to have diesel, and now have PHEV which is the best option for a few years.
There’s a few rude and ignorant comments, but for my part I think it was an interesting video concerning the pros and cons of that Tesla model. You have a beautiful characterful wife,a sweet daughter and a good dog !
I have so much I could say, first, I loved this video so so much. Then I got to the end I laughed so hard I started to cough and had to stop the vid until I could calm down. Great video, I have to watch it again just for all the great views and the food. Have a great day. Jon
Re: lights and other things on the Model 3. The one thing to say about Tesla, is that it’s like your mobile ‘phone etc…. An update and you have a “new feature” For example I bought my car last July and last week the software update added Matrix Headlight. Quite an improvement, if still not “perfect”. But that’s a fabulous part of owning any modern car, it can have continuous little improvements (actually, I am not sure how much this applies to modern ICE cars….they probably have this too, though) For more chilled driving and managing that tendency to speed there’s nothing to beat adaptive cruise control - mine spends so much of its life managing the speed for me!! That way, the long distances mean you get out at the other end much fresher and overall your concentration levels can stay higher for much longer!! 👍🏻
Great videos which show good real world driving, Love watching your dynamics between each other 😂👍🏼 Like you from the start I have never understood why there isn’t a hudd and also agree 100% on auto wipers and high beam. The Auto pilot also doesn’t feel me with confidence as it takes a long time to react to pick up speed when you overtake by moving into fast lane and I’ve also had phantom braking which I’m sure would be solved by adding addition additional sensors such as lidor . That said I still love it after nearly 4 years.
hey Andrew! new viewer and love how down to earth you are, it's amazing and love the road trip videos. tesla is my dream car to be honest but I'm so worried about range anxiety and charging at home isn't that great for me tbh. :( keep up the great work!
Thank you! I don't think Tesla drivers suffer from range anxiety very much generally, as it's so good with planning charging stops. It's actually quite difficult to get it to run out of battery! All EVs are certainly easier if you can charge at home, but supermarkets are all adding decent hubs now so if you do a weekly shop, you can charge at the same time.
Wow, class act Andrew. The music 👌 Convoy & Ain’t no mountain high enough. As much as you liked some of the Tesla stuff, the grumpy old man came out. The Tesla trolling you with ABBA and the rainbow road shit 😂😂.
High beam not an issue now with Matrix as it works superbly. Don't understand the google map problems (basically tesla maps) and can only think you're used to other mapping and we now have speed cameras etc. Ultimately as per usual with your videos a great watch though and well done in getting the edit done.
I was confused why Andrew didn't know how to unplug the Supercharger plug by long pressing the button... until Flaviana explained about him not reading manuals 😅 I'm with Flaviana, if I buy a product then I'm going to read the manual front to back, including the warnings at the start! That being said, it all adds to the fun of this wonderfully put together road trip video. You lot are obviously enjoying life and it shows. Thank you for sharing the fun and laughter with us!
Car manuals are useless. They cover too many variants and are full of useless warnings on every page that just makes the whole thing unreadable. The manuals are usually out of date so don't even cover things that you want to find out. Why can't they do a PDF manual that's for your specific model in the region that you bought it. It can't be that difficult.
@@narrowboatlongpod4176 Um... The Tesla includes 'videos' which explain operating your car, alot of the menu functions and things in your car! For.. your model! It's in the 'extra' button on the screen, worth watching if you're sitting charging for your first few times! This is the extent of my 'reading the manuals' - I have never read the manual. But I HAVE watched the videos.
There’s something about Teslas that just annoys me more. I think it’s because, although they’re arguably the best EVs, they’re not (in my opinion!) the best cars. Auto wipers and high beam is basic stuff. (The latter only just fixed, years later!) Removing parking/rain sensors and relying on cameras before the tech is ready is so idiotic. The lack of physical controls and a HUD is also annoying. (I imagine even worse now the indicator/gear stalk is removed - but admittedly I’ve yet to try it.) No CarPlay/Android Auto. And my sense of humour clearly isn’t aligned to that of Musk! But I certainly understand why so many people love theirs. I just feel so much more at peace driving a more normal EV!
@@MrEV Fair comment. I've also come to realise since owning a Model Y that many Tesla owners are insufferable. To me it's just a car that does what I want. I have no idea how to produce a fart noise from the vehicle and don't intend to find out. Implied criticism withdrawn!
“It’s like walking round IKEA and licking the cabinets.” Now I’ve got to taste some of that and it would be cheaper than getting a lifetime ban at the store. Carcassonne - I didn’t know there was phone version. I do like playing the table version. Never got my head around the ‘Bazar’ tiles, so we just exclude them. Beautiful scenery, good company, cabinet licking good food… and the EV family. What more could one wish for? I think the half electrical supply, applies to all double-headed EV chargers. Not just the Tesla ones. As to the green wheels - just because you can afford a Tesla, doesn’t automatically mean you’ve got good taste. Perhaps the driver’s other car is Subaru WRX. I’m frequently dismayed that more British people on the whole, just speak the native language. You live in Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, España, Malaysia, Taiwan, the borders of German and France and India. And it’s a given that you’re a polyglot.
Almost like I planned it! So annoying though - there was some absolutely cracking exchanges in that bit of video too. I think one of the reasons the video was so late was just that losing that audio really zapped my enthusiasm for editing it all!
Wonderful video. Brilliant direction, angles. Music was great. Very professional. Post-refresh model S are a lot more efficient than older, can charge fast because of bigger 100kwh battery. But not as efficient as 3. Early model S are not very efficient 330w/mile. Some old model S have throttled charging speeds too. Model 3 is 250w/mile. New refreshed 3s are even better at about 235. Model Y is less aerodynamic and is about 275.
Great road trip! I was quite curious if you drove past us in the Black Forest in Germany but it looks as though you stayed over in France. Sélestat is about 1 hour over the border from us. EV trips great aren't they?
Absolutely brilliant video even after the long wait. Such fun, beautiful drives, beautiful views, lovely family, lovely food. Dear little Baby seemed to be enjoying herself too, thanks in part to Dog Mode, still couldnt have a Tesla though for all the cons you listed...plus .... Elon Musk...😡 I'll just wait for Huyndai to catch up with the charger prediction mapping I guess. Oh and it was good to have an explanation as to why the girls took the plane or train on the last holiday and left you and Baby to drive down, I thought it was a bit odd but Flaviana obviously listened to her "future self" insert! Thanks all, look forward to the next one.👍👏
Terrific. Perhaps I missed it, but what do you think about the seats for a long drive? And have you tried them in the Y? And standout seats in EVs for long distance driving in your experience?
IONIQ 5 more comfortable than the Y from what I remember, although we never took the Y on a road trip. The ID.7 is actually the most comfortable EV I’ve driven although the Kia EV9 is a close second.
Just discovered your channel as i'm looking to get our first electric car. Really helpful and nice to see the point of view of another family, think you've helped convince us to go the electric route. My wife has family in Cortina, Italy but think Cornwall or maybe Scotland will be the furthest we will go, its more for local area and short day trips around Kent/E.Sussex. Just trying to decide which car to go for. Tried Teslas and am not convinced. Have a 2020 Mercedes now and I like all the interior details, found Teslas too minimalist. Thinking either Volvo EX30, Mercedes EQA or BMW ix1. Tough decision. Any suggestions? thanks Andrew.
Great views in the south. They have now fixed the headlamps with a new pixel control algorithm, so that a proportion of the lights stay on more (pixel mapping). The autopilot is FAB. I use it all the time now and have used it extensively in France. You just have to keep your foot near the accelerator in case it has a moment to itself, but otherwise very clever. The wipers, yes, dumb as can be and very annoying when you leave say an airport and a layer of dust has stuck to the camera aperture; they stay stuck on on auto mode until you wash them clear or turn off autopilot as the software is always getting in the way. But that’s ok, because next time you remember to clean that area before driving. You can set various places like work and home in Sentry mode to leave it off (safe zones). They need to suggest to you to turn it off at airports and the like, so you don’t end up with a battery at 21%! And you’re right, they are gobbling lots of power (=>750maH) using the main CPU and no doubt data transmission. Again, no biggy, but it needs fixing. And thanks for such a well produced video. Switzerland and Italy, here we come.
I suspect Andrew was using EAP, rather than FSD. I don't actually know... but even if it were full FSD this video was taken some months ago and the recent FSD implementation is much *much* better. I used it recently to drive me around some *very* twisty, turny roads with crossroads and blind turns and all kinds, and I gotta say that it did it perfectly there and back, with zero interventions. The Ioniq / Mach E / Other cars use 'curated routes' - so, they work good on their 'blue routes' but they're not driving you door-to-door and I suspect Andrew had the relatively dumb 'Autopilot' - which despite its name.. is really just um.. 'traffic-aware-cruise-control'.
1:04:00 - yes, the voice part and radio might be working out and the rest was also really funny and fresh just straight from the heart and not polished by 3 pr agents. Made me smile, the whole story or saga around the voice and the "italian market place" .
I enjoyed these videos. I think your wife is a star. I've ordered a Model 3 Highland doo I'm interested to see how that's improved on the car you drove.
Great video! Bit like flying vs road trip, you could have made it much shorter, but wouldn’t have been anywhere near as interesting! Also, only the V2 Superchargers (two connectors) share power. You can get full power on V3/4 even when charging next to someone
It is! I was chatting to some bikers at one of the viewpoints when I drove through once actually. If I could ride, I think that'd be an amazing journey.
Good video Andrew. I agree with your thoughts on the tesla the car itself is not the best it’s the integration of the supercharger and the nav as well as the ease of using the superchargers themselves that makes difference. As such I agree with your wife for long road trips yes use a tesla but if your not doing long road trips then choose a different car. I chose the Kia ev6.
What Flavia said on comfort, we found this last year when we did a road trip to Ireland from France. My kids and their mum complained all the time about this in our hire Model 3
@@antoniopalmero4063 E-Niro is the much better car. Less range, less efficiency, worse Software, more service and maintenance cost, ususally costs more to buy (depending if used or not), less boot space. But it has a hatchback. And it is much slower and more comfy to ride. Many want slower.
@@antoniopalmero4063Bear in mind the Model 3 in this video was pre-refresh. Take a look at the improvements in the new Model 3 and take it for a test drive. The seats (now more comfortable and including cooling), suspension and road noise dampening are all vastly better than my 2019 Model 3, which I've taken on a long drive down to South of France and it was an absolute joy.
You were very brave considering the car wash, I once observed a customer in a car wash, the brushes promptly removed his mud flap and then with it caught in the brushes proceeded to thrash his car within an inch of its life :-( P.S. Love your channel, however dont like EVs, and they will never replace the Company Gulfstream - If you know you know.
Tesla supercharges are numbered. I think if your stall is 1a and the next is 1b they will share power. I occasionally find places (Fort William) where you get 1a, 1b, 1c so shared three ways. Tesla Toys: Get boring really quickly. (like a joke being told many times) Autowipers: still rubbish. Could do with a physical control to start, stop and select speed. They dont react fast enough. AutoHighbeam: Yep. Also not good (I dont use them) Speed limit recognition:. Uses the maps to know what the supposed speed limit is. Its sign recognition is better than it was but can still get confused if it picks up a side road speed sign. Then takes a while for the maps to correct it. (Mind you, speed limits in Italy seem to be "advisory" at best given the way everyone else drives) Warnings: You get to know which ones are annoying to you and turn them off. Even so, still get one or two annoyances. Radio voice: Yes, Id say you have a voice for radio . Road trips: Watching this makes me want to go again....like now. (my wife likes them too).
I would love to take my dog with me next time I drive to Germany, but the cost seems to be so much. And I would have probably driven back through Germany, I speak quite a bit of German but absolutely no French whatsoever! I am not bragging, but I would have been able to work out the carwash! Did you not think of using Google Translate with the picture translate function?
I did use Google Translate actually, but annoyingly I didn’t do a screen capture. It didn’t help much. I think it said “please position car” or something? I probably should have tried driving more forward or back but to be honest, life’s too short. 😀
@@MrEV To be honest, I prefer the car washes that you put money into a control box and you wash the car yourself using the big brush hose thing. You see them all over the place in Germany. As with everything in Germany, these are far more advanced than anything you see at the local supermarket in the UK!
PS, it’s the app translator. Available on iPhones and the majority of other phones as well please look into it.. benefit you in the wrong wrong all languages just scan what’s on the screen put in the language you wish to translate to or from and you have it in seconds in front of you. No problem.
Flaviana is sort of right. There are two types of people, ones that don’t read the instructions and the second type that rely on the others who have have read the the instructions
What I find interesting about the ending when it comes to what a Tesla does and I am a former model 3 owner is. My Kia Nero EV is more efficient. Built better. It also does the same and shows you charging stops and recommended favourite stops. Also shows their status live. The car will on route recommend stops if you need the power. Also does all the pre conditioning for the battery automatically and all the climate controls via the app so this is in no way exclusive to Tesla. Even learns favourite places you might like and driving style to use with the autonomy. Which until full self driving comes out is better. Proof on youtube is there the battery looses the driver on average 1% range after 70k miles. Tesla 8% first year down… So apart from a wonderful network of chargers which I can now use fantastic! Tesla is not worth the hassle.
my model y 2024 voice recognition is excellent in fact the best on the mkt....hundreds of commands on the right scroll wheel ..from Navigate too...heat seats on..rear view camera on.ac on.{ heater controls } open glovebox.. play taylor swift.. ho ho ho.. its endless what you can ask it to do..its FAB IMO.
"Have you ever considered using a narrator voice, voice over, on such videos? In my travel videos, I have used a narrator voice. As a trained television news journalist, I have then created a rough script in advance. It's also easier to edit if you write a voice over and lay the images based on what the narrator says. Since I've used a lot of "stolen" music, I haven't uploaded my videos to RU-vid, but shared them with family and friends." I agree with Flaviana about the radio voice.
