The ULTIMATE Scottish FISH SUPPER in EDINBURGH??? 

Husband and I were just in Edinburgh and had the Haddock super on your recommendation at the Fishmarket. It has now set the bar for all other fish and chips and we're afraid nothing will be able to compare. It was so good. Thank you for the review!

Next time you’re in Scotland you should try the Wee Hurrrie in Troon Ayrshire and have a sea bass supper - you won’t be disappointed - yum yum 😋 - off the boat and into the fryer !

From an Edinburgh lad living in the Bay Area california. That used to be Harry ramsdens for a while. Yorkshire fish suppers. For Edinburgh it’s salt and Sauce. Glasgow is salt and vinegar.

Thank you for this fantastic video Lee, Newhaven is near to where I grew up in Trinity. The harbour means so much to myself and my children, we have a padlock down there for my late husband. The bench you chose was the exact one we used to sit on when we were young, such happy memories. I enjoyed your walk so much, although as soon as you said you were walking to Newhaven I was wishing you had jumped in a taxi, it's a bit of a trek. Thank you again, hope you come up again sometime. I lived in Newhaven for 13 years and as you say it really is lovely.The chippy you were in was once a Harry Ramsdens which was also very good.There is a lovely wee pup over the toad that serves a lovely pint.

Most chippies in Scotland you get 2 fish and most of them are much cheaper than 16 quid. Anyway it did look very nice.

Mister Macmaster fish & chips looked gorgeous 10/10...eating with fingers & outside especially near the coast adds to the experience 😊 what is happening to prices in our country??? Fantastic video. I could be wrong as I was only young but I think the Fishmarket used to be a Harry Ramsden's when I lived with family in Edinburgh in 1995. I remember it being popular.

Lee never had fish ’n’ chips from fish market been told it’s quite good, you’ll find the fish will be fresh on looks I would say 9 it’s just a shame they don’t have more seating looked very busy. As an Englishman, even I know you can't go to Edinburgh and F&C without having sauce!! That fish looked amazing and haddock is so much tastier than cod (for me). It always tastes better outside, with seagull sounds. 9/10 Next time in Edinburgh have 'the sauce' on your F&C you won't regret it.

At the start off the video when you said you were going to walk I'm like nae chance go you, the bus service is great and the trams will be running to their from June, I do love a fish supper from the fish market makes me want another but I'm 35 minutes away

Another awesome video by the MacMaster, that fish and chips looked awesome,, good you had a nice day for a walk, when we went we were walking on the shore amd we heard a horrible loud noise, we looked at each other and said what the hell Is that, and 30 seconds later we were absolutely soaked through to the bone 😂 I've never heard rain 30 seconds before we felt it before or again in my life 😂

In answer to the so called locals on here.....its Princes Street, not Princess Street, and has been for over 200 years....and Newhaven and Leith ARE in Edinburgh

Nice to see you walk to Newhaven as it is a worthy stroll with many scenic routes. Those suggesting taking the tram have a point, though only if the weather is bad. Or you're lazy, which if possibly why they opt not to walk. On a pleasant day a couple miles in fabulous Edinburgh is nothing. A friend and I are set to try the Fishmarket tomorrow. Your review coupled with a positive one from Tom Kerridge - he was very impressed by the 'production line' and the results - has, despite a naysayer or two in the comments here, eased any concerns I had. Mind, the fact that you enjoy Irn Bru could suggest a lack of taste. 🙂 Another great place is Saltwater (formerly Global) in Bruntsfield, which is a shorter walk (cut across the Meadows and Bruntsfield Links from the Old Town). It is on a high street located in a fabulous residential area, so after your meal you can wander about looking at shops (great magazine/newspaper one across the street, boutiques etc.) or appreciating some of the city's finest homes.

Head out to musselburgh, east coast is different class.

Great review mate and a very fair score. Fish and chips looked lovely. I agree with you about the mushy peas. They didn't look the best to be honest but I'm not a huge fan of mushy peas anyway. I do love curry sauce though. I'm going to go 9.5/10 as the chip portion could have been slightly larger. Edinburgh is a lovely city. Went there back in 1999 for a 5 Nations Rugby match at Murrayfield between Ireland and Scotland. Would like to visit there again. Thanks for another great video buddy👍

Haddock didn’t look all that large , but depends what’s landed on day , can vary a lot . I’m from Aberdeen and some of out Peterhead landed fish are huge .

You mention Magnus Magnusson , did you know he was brought up in Edinburgh ? An Icelandic who lived in Scotland all his life but never took British citizenship. Right let's get down to the food , that was a large fish ? do you get a fish finger if you order the regular ? Fair play the peas didn't look pureed so that's a point earned. The price though ....that would be £30+ for a couple and a mortgage payment for a family. It's a generous 6 from me and 10 for the vistas 👍 Beard Meats Food is a legend and a man eating like a Viking with his fingers , your mate DJ darn sarf eating a pizza with a knife and fork the other day reminds me of you 🤣

I lived in Auld Reekie many years ago, in Stockbridge. There was a fabulous chippy there called L'aquila Bianca (fish suppers, pizzas, pasta etc) they did potato fritters, battered onion chunks and battered mushrooms and a whole host of other things but the fish was amazing. I think it closed many years ago but I always thought the fish and chips, on the eastern side of Scotland especially, were the best (Oban, on the West, has some really good ones if you ever venture up there). That place is a real walk from the centre because it is even further than Leith in Edinburgh. I would give that one 8.5/10

I went there a few months ago from Glasgow to check out the hype. What I found is that the fish tasted exactly the same as that of Catch Fish n Chips in Glasgow (Giffnock). But the chips at catch were better. So for those travelling from Glasgow you will get similar up here. BTW Catch fish n chips is also as pricey as the Fishmarket!

If you are in the east of Scotland try a White Pudding Supper, I absolutely love it and being from Glasgow it's a rare treat for me!

Next time you visit edinburgh have a look for oink. They do an amazing pulled pork roll. Pick the roll then a stuffing, a sauce then topped with pulled pork fresh from a spit roasted pig

Last F&C I had in Embra was from a chippy on the High Street considerably more central than the fishmarket, Newhaven. I seem to remember it was great, but then this is my fave meal, using fingers an' all. It was much cheaper than £16 but we are talking about a while ago, sort of Middle Ages or say around 1972. Ye cannae beat it!

My Brother in laws mother lived there for a year and said the fish and chips are always amazing. As a Canadian hard to find good fish and chips except in the maritime provinces on the east coast , Nova Scotia ect.

Can’t believe you walked to Newhaven from the city centre. It must be all of two miles or so however the No.22 bus from the city takes you to Ocean Terminal which is just a few minutes walk to The Fishmarket, and they run every few minutes anyway. Actually quite a few buses run to Ocean Terminal from the city. If my memory serves me right I used to use the No.35 bus which runs from the airport to Ocean T. Anyway the fish & chips looked ok. That curry sauce had a strong vibrant colour to it, I bet that had a kick. The place looked busy so it must have been good. I used to stay at the Ocean Apartments just up the road my last visit.

Are you in Edinburgh, on the hunt for another 'Fish Supper'? I liked your post from Great Yarmouth. Fish and chips old style were fried in Beef Dripping. Nothing else does the job. You are my youngest brother's age. I remember a Chippy where the pans were fired by coal!!

If you go back, get the bus from the centre it drops you off nearby. I thought the fish was spot on but like most things , a bit pricy, and how many locals use it, thats the test. . The fish comes from Peterhead.West London , One day a week the wife and I get F&C sit in the car and tuck in fingers and all. Sounds a bit strange but better still when its raining. My daughter and I were up in May 2022 , there are a few good F&C shops, and again most fish comes from Peterhead.

You walked from Princes St to Newhaven? You deserve that supper!!! If you had jumped on the tram at Princes ST, the tram would have taken you right there. Last tram stop is newhaven. I have always meant to try that place and always forget about it.

Fish suppers in Scotland are legendry,but the tastiest one i ever had was from a big chippy in Shard End,Birmingham!
