Ahhh, the Legend. One thing you didn't mention as to why people buy these: the bulletproof reliability that you get baked into it. This truck will go 30 years with just fluid changes, no problem. You simply don't get that in a Tahoe or an Expedition. The 5.7 is proven, the chassis is proven, and if you try to look up used ones, you'll see the only thing higher than the price is the mileage some of them have made it to. Truly legendary machines. There's a reason these are the standard in the middle east. Nice addition to this channel!

Not jus try LC. My Lexus RX 350 has 220k and looks brand new. More importantly not a single squeak inside. Tight as a button. Toyota/Lexus just know how to make vehicles. My Toyota Sienna went 330k. (The tranny did go out and I blame myself. I changed ALL the tranny fluid at 330k and it started to slip after I did that. Otherwise I believe it would have kept going if I didn't. Many, shops said you never change out fluid after racking up high mileage on a tranny. I agree) Otherwise.... An ultra reliable vehicle with regular maintenance.

Very true about the mid east. When I went to Bahrain and dubai, I've noticed acres of these trucks along with 79 series fresh off the boat.

Yes the reliability is there but the transmission went out on my 100 Series well under 100k miles. I was extremely shocked by this. Lucky for me the extended warranty covered it. My navigation system went out shortly after that. Unfortunately my extended warranty didn't cover it. It is a 2001 and I still have it today. Mileage is currently at 1006,000 I'm probably looking to replace it this year with something new. Might want something different.

one of the best, honest reviews on landcruiser especially US reviewers tend to focus on MPG, old Engine and comparing with American counterparts and not talk about whats underneath , like softer suspension, ride quality, reason for side folding third row seats, or the tail gate design and all offroad goodies. indeed a well thought through review of the Legendary LANDCRUISER Dream Ride !!!!

I've had one since 2008. I live and work in Africa. The reliability and comfort is exceptional. Someone mentioned 350 MPG. Mine's diesel and I can drive 850 kilometers on a full tank (130 liters). The wife has a Range Sport, my son a Nissan Patrol , my daughter a BMW X6 and my Toyota spends the least time in maintenance and is by far the most reliable!!

You can find old 100 series for under $10k with less than 200k miles, 200 series start around $25k with around 150k miles. That's the beauty about the land cruiser, if you really want one, you can likely afford a used one that has lots of life left --even if it already has 150-200k miles.

So in regards to the split gate, its been like that for a long time, barn doors were/are still optional (including on the 200 series in other markets) but the US wagons have have split gates since the 1967 FJ45. The FJ55 had a 4runner style tailgate with a roll down window but the 60 series, 80 series and 100 series have all had split gates.

I love American pick up trucks, despite how cost prohibitive they are here in Australia. What concerns me is some of the comments on videos like this one, where people seem to think it's extraordinary that this thing does 200K + without any major issues? Of course it does... this is obvious and expected from Land Cruisers. Is this not a reasonable expectation of an American car like the HD's?

Land Cruiser station wagons have used the horizontal split tailgate since the 1950s, the vertical barn doors were only used on the "commercial" versions. It's hard to tell but does that vehicle have the Kinetic Suspension System? Your discription of the ride vs handling makes it sound like it does. The big question is, would you trade your Navigator for a Land Cruiser? I'd guess if you like to change vehicles every few years you'd probably be on the fence, but if you want a vehicle to be a keeper, the Land Cruiser would be the choice.

Actually the split tailgate is not new for this model. It first was introduced in the 100-series back in 1998. The rear swinging doors you mentioned were on the smaller Land Cruiser called the “Prado”. They were also available on some base model land cruiser 100’s but as standard they would come with the split tailgate as shown here. The only “new” thing that this current model has over the last one is the the top part is power operated. On the older 100’s it’s all manual release.

I love this truck and could care less about how "dated" it is compared to some of its competitors. I personally believe it's the best vehicle under $100k. I love the notion of stealth wealth -- you could take this through a bad part of town and not draw any attention to yourself -- the same cannot be said in any other $85k suv. Resale and reliability are also big selling points. A few things really bug me though. First is that you have to go through the center screen to change the HVAC settings; I think that would be really frustrating to live with especially when using navigation. Apple carplay is also not available yet -- not a dealbreaker just would be nice to have. Also, the rear seat center armrest is too low -- sounds weird, but I sat in one of these and it was in a really awkward position where it doesn't really hit your arm when sitting regularly. Third, I wish that it was easier to remove the 3rd row of seats altogether if you don't need them. In the old 100 series cruisers, this was easy, but there is no easy way in this generation. Sure, better fuel economy would be appreciated, but those who can afford an $85k vehicle typically don't have to worry about budgeting for gas.

Completely Clogged yea I’ve wondered the same thing, till I went into a dealer, only to be told there’s a small window of opportunity, only a couple times a year. So IF you catch it just right, then your dealer has not used up His allotment and does not have any reservations about filling one of his limited orders to get you the least expensive trim level of their most profit generating vehicle, your o Ser will be taken, IF you have the sizable deposit required AND the time to wait for your new vehicle to arrive in America! Because he believe these are still built in Japan. But if you go onto the Toyota build site all you gonna find is a Cruiser starts at just over $89,000!!!! That’s the only price! For that kind of money? Yes if I were to spend that ludicrous amount of money, on ONE vehicle, I might be interested in one, seeing as how they do have a great reputation!! But I’d probably still save $20,000 or more and buy something a little more interesting, like an SRT Durango for a three row, or maybe a new Lincoln Navigator base at $15,000 LESS!

In the gcc we have different trim levels and 3 engines. But you guys have nice American cars and trucks that our dealers never brought or take forever to import.

I believe it depends on the regulations, market, and climate. Toyota and Nissan sell most of their SUV. Nissan still sells y61 patrol and the y62 we have is better than the Aussie version. Also Fj cruiser is available here but we don't have 4Runner.

Makes little sense when the Lexus LX which is just a nicer land cruiser is hardly more expensive than the regular land cruiser

Check inventory on cars.com, there are a handful that are 8-10k under sticker. Still expensive, but for 75k, I'd rather have this than a fully loaded Tahoe for sure.

4.5 diesel V8...the only way...in Australia its all about the torque...and yet Yanks just dont get it...the automotive world build and rely on the American market..smaller markets use a ring pull but the good US of A loves the can opener..(figure of speech...)

I should not be surprised given the title.... yet I am.. If I was a consumer which wanted a new vehicle for offroad and onroad use, I could see why I might choose this... honestly thought the title has nothing to do with the content.

90% diesel in Australia and the wheel on the right side.

Why only 5 screws on the wheels. Saw smaller cars with 6 screws. Doesnt that mean toyota engine is weaker and doesnt produce that much force to the wheels ?
@BigTruckBigRV

or they use stronger lug bolts.

Toyota badge on the steering wheel gives it away. Of course it's going to be a Land Cruiser.

when did the landcruiser ever have a swingout?... not since the 80s

Special forces and the other markets around the world get the real land cruiser. This one is the toned down version. For the price just get the Lexus since the price is almost identical
@rickd8979
@rickd8979 6 лет назад
whiteandnerdytuba For the price I'd actually rather have this. It doesn't have as many not-so-useful features that'll break later as the Lexus. Approach, departure and breakover angles are better in the land cruiser than they are in the Lexus. Plus imo, the Lexus is waaay too unsightly. Now the twinturbo diesel version of the Land Cruiser is 👌

whiteandnerdytuba eh it’s a Land Cruiser 200 series. Swap the steps for sliders and put some tires on, it’ll go.

What’s the real one? The 70 series? I don’t agree, this is better for the special forces application.

I know people having 30/35-year-old Land Cruisers saying that their ancient Land Cruiser is more reliable than many modern SUV's that they own.

@truckerdaddy-akajohninqueb4793
Don't see the lineage. It looks generic. A spare tire under the vehicle? Will it lower properly in 10 years? High-end doesn't address middle-class market. At least my wrangler comes in enough levels that everybody can get one.
