I doubt he's using both monitors for Rust at 7000px wide. He's probably using the secondary for something else (multitasking). Therefore, the only factor is the single 1440p ultrawide, plus a small overhead for the second monitor.

My 7700X destroyed my 5800X3D (now sold) in pretty much everything gaming related. I won't even go into content creation (Photoshop, Premier, etc), the gap becomes even more obvious. Yes, 5800X3D is an awesome chip for gaming for last gen and if you absolutely must stay with Zen 3. But if you game AND use other programs, do yourself a favour and sell your Zen 3 machine while it still can fetch some cash and upgrade to a Zen 4 platform. Last but not least, get more than 8 cores on Zen 4. 12 or 16 works great for gaming and for content creation. Yes, 7800X3D is great if you are a serious competitive gamer (pro level) but chances are you are not. So get a 12 or 16 cores Zen 4 chip instead. On another note, for multi monitor setups, Windows 11 works better than Windows 10. Great stuff as always guys, keep up the good work!

@@warcrabcyber9908 I ain't imagining. I have more than 5 systems. One of them was the 5800X3D with an Aorus Pro X570 motherboard. Tweaked with curve optimiser, 32GB 3600mhz CAS 16 memory (G.Skill b-die) and a Noctua D15. I also have gen4 NVMe across all my machines. I had a good 5800X3D chip, it never throttled. I always find the sweet spot when I'm tweaking stuff so my PC doesn't throttle or become too hot. What I am trying to get across here is that the Zen 4 platform has more room "to breathe" if you like, probably because of the DDR5 bandwidth. Note that I have 32gb of DDR 6000 at CAS30 on my 7700X which does also play a big role. I tweak all my systems. 5800X3D is an awesome chip for gaming if you must stay with Zen 3. I am just saying that if you were to upgrade to another platform, there is no better time than right now to sell your Zen 3 CPU and platform components in general. They will be worth half as much in a year's time if you are lucky. That's what I am trying to say. Check reviews on YT of the 5800X3D vs the 7700X and you'll see that people have been getting similar results.

From all the channels I watch, who use a 4090 to benchmark CPUs, who have benchmarked the 5800X3D, I have not seen a single one of those guys do their benchmarks only in 1080p, High detail. They will sometimes include 1080p results for completion's sake, but every single one of those guys (again, the ones I am watching), al do 1440p and 4k. No idea what your point was in the beginning here. It sounded like a strawman argument to me. Edit: Just to be clear, I am not saying you're wrong, I'm saying that I have made very different experiences from the thing you are describing and thus do not understand where you're coming from.

A 27'' 1440p monitor vs a 34'' Ultrawide 1440p monitor require complete different sets of hardware to run. At 165hz? Ha, good luck hitting that natively on a 34'' ultrawide. Even a 4090 can't get to that lvl of performance. Tech has been in the industry for so long I am sure he has experienced so many different configurations and his "acceptable" lvl might be different from you. Just like everyone's expectation is different. I have 2 monitors both 1440p but one is 27'' and one is an ultrawide 34''. On 2 different monitors and the same settings of any given games with the asus 4090. The 27'' 1440p monitor gains at least 30fps vs the ultrawide because the resolutions are different. Why do you hear people telling you to listen to your parents? Because they were once your age and they have experience. Same thing here. One last thing, you can run any gpus you want on any monitor. The argument here is that the viewer has a 165hz monitor. Sure the 6950xt works but maybe gets max 80fps for games he plays. You are leaving performance you paid for on the table. Defeats the purpose of having that high refresh ultrawide.

the thing is that rust seems to be something of a 'weird' or strange game. so it might be a bit of an outlyer in terms of not being a representative game. so i would encourage re-testing this scenario with a variety of other (less controversial) games. thing is i am in the same situation here! so really want to see some answers. actually i am with even worse gpu here... trying to drive 1 ultrawide 1440p with a 5700xt and intel i7-8700k. so i am on medium detail, and perhaps bumping down the resolution too (to 1080x2560). so it struggles quite a lot.

@epicskylegend7501

By that logic there isn’t much of a reason to have a PC at all. One of the big benefits of having a PC is to be able to multi task or at the very least, quickly switch between multiple different tasks when need be. What you just described is exactly what a console is for, doing only 1 thing at once. While having a PC powerful enough to seamlessly handle heavier multitasking certainly isn’t a necessity, it’s a very nice experience to have if you can afford the components. Just because *you* don’t personally understand the benefits of it doesn’t make the decision invalid.

@Mogura87
@Mogura87 Год назад
Just because a monitor is high refresh rate doesn't mean you need to run all games at max refresh rate all the time. With 165 hz that's not realistic for anything even a bit demanding at good visual settings, except maybe with DLSS FG or FSR3 (which have their own downsides). The main point of any high refresh rate monitor IMO is the G-sync/freesync/VRR experience with uncapped framerate, which basically will be great at anything between 60 and 144+ (as long as the frametimes don't spike too much causing stutters). Capping your fps to half the refresh rate is fine too if you want to spare some GPU resources for a bit of multitasking. On the other hand, for older or lighter games you'll be able to run the games at the monitors max refresh rate and enjoy that too. For reference I use a 12700k and 3080 12 GB on an Alienware AW3423DW and feel I take good advantage of the monitor when gaming. G-sync smoothes things out surprisingly well even in extreme cases like Cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing at 35-40 fps. Equally important is the actual quality of the panel tech and feature set like HDR. For example, IPS is no match to OLED for gaming no matter how many hz it nominally had, because the panel tech is inherently inferior for motion clarity, contrast and black levels. In other words there's a lot more to monitor choice than just "how much fps number can I cram in to match the max refresh rate number".

Unless you sit with your face pressed against the monitor 4K on anything less than a 32 inch screen is a waste of time. I have a 28 inch 4k and just run it at 1440p which with my eyesight and how I like to sit I can't see the difference. I use 24 inch 1080p 165hz for serious online gaming, easy to miss things on a bigger screen. I'm guessing that's why benches are often done at 1080p for the pro's using 360hz plus screens.

@surfx4804
@surfx4804 Год назад
Well, just running two such monitors won't stress the CPU. They need to look at what they are running. Especially look at your browser, which are now becoming mini operating systems in themselves and with that use resources. Check if you have hardware acceleration enabled or not. I have a 5800x3d and a 4090, with a 4k TV, and two 1440p monitors. And it is the browser (Edge) that is the problem child in all this. I end up switching off the hardware acceleration when playing games (edge is using the GPU to upscale videos, which is great when not playing games but does not like it when the game has all the GPU) but then it uses the CPU. Some of the games I play are Hogwarts, Cyberpunk, Baldur's Gate 3 and I don't have issues running Discord and having ~6 tabs open in Edge inc. RU-vid. And in the background is stuff like Logitech and Corsair utilities. My next upgrade will be a many core CPU as 8 is not enough looking forward for power users.

This is what I am saying to all the aspiring PC builders since the introduction of 1600p in the mid 2000s and 4k later, what monitor are you targeting to use? The cpu and gpu you should buy always depends on how many pixels they're gonna push. 3440x1440 is 5 million pixels (double that per extra monitor) so you'll generally need something way more powerful than a 1440p/165hz capable gpu. Currently the RTX 4090 is the only gpu that is almost able to provide such high fps on some demanding titles, it might not be even enough to drive dual 3440x1440p 165hz dual monitors on uber demanding games. You'll also need a cpu with adequate amount of cores and fast enough IPC to feed that monster gpu to drive such monster number of pixels.

I think we are getting to the point where games are starting to max out 4/6 core CPUs and push 8 core CPU usage pretty high. If you just game and don't have a lot going on in the background, you should be fine with 8 cores. However, multiple monitors with multiple things going while game, you need more than 8 cores. Intel has noticed this and that is why the core counts continue to rise across all their CPUs. There are rumors that AMD is going to do the same as well.

Other games refuse to run at that resolution. GTA 5 for instance is very troublesome. Nothing I tried could ever get to a solution for the right screen resolution. It was always just off from being right at best. If I want to run a game in normal versus ultrawide, I have to make that setting in windows first. Otherwise no setting I make on the monitor or the game will prevent it from filling all the way out to the sides. In both cases, there are more than 50% chances I might upgrade the processor after 4-5 years to 13700k or 7800x3d respectively. I will use a b760 or b660 motherboard respectively. Please help me 🙏. All i am looking for is price to performance.

pick up a b650 and a 7600, and a 7800xt when they launch. You can go intel, but I would advise against ddr4 with 12th or 13th gen, but I would also advise against slow ddr5 for Am5. Pick your poison. What resolution and refresh rate are you targeting? What is your current cpu? what is your current psu? It's more than just upgrading cpu/mobo/ram/gpu with this new hardware.

@arghanill8525 so you basically have an i7 2600. I’d recommend replacing your gpu first, as thats whats holding you back from getting higher framerates at the moment. Maybe pick up a 7800XT if you can, and then hold off on upgrading the mobo/cpu/ram until you find that your xeon is holding you back from achieving 60fps. Since you’re targeting 60hz/fps, your cpu should be able to achieve that in most games, though there are many games that will definitely struggle with the core count of your cpu. What games are you looking to play right now? Most games that have a lot of moving NPCs and/or are open world will tax that cpu to its max, as well as multiplayer games with a high in game player count.

@@chrisoverton2759actually there is a catch with my xeon. My motherboard is 10 years old and recently one of its slots is not working. So I am only able to use one Ram slot with 4 gb ddr3 ram. Besides as xeon is 10 nm thicker than my old Pentium g2030 I think somehow it damaged some of my mb pins. Though i repaired that but the repair is not staying for more than 2 weeks .That's why I am looking for a cpu + mb + ram upgrade for now

Buying 4090 to play at 1080p doesn't seem like such bad idea given how Starfield performs.

Yea I got mine in February and I'm keeping it until Zen 5/15th gen. For a pure gaming rig it will still be good for a while. I upgraded my GPU this year instead and got a 7900XTX. Awesome combination for my 32" 1440p 165hz high refresh. I love the super high framerates in everything

@Ladioz yea I didn't want to be an AM5 beta tester. I'll jump in with an 8900X/8950X or 15700k/15900k. I'm excited to see what AMD and Intel bring next round. It will be a way more impactful upgrade

@Ladioz oh no doubt. I enjoy new hardware too much to wait that long, though lol. I also have a son who loves gaming already, so I'm going give my 5800X3D rig to him as his first PC. There will be a hand me down PC ecosystem in the household from now on lol. Dad gets the good stuff and my boys will have very good equipment to carry me on

With basically every high refresh rate monitor being Gsync or Freesync with a Gsync compatible certification from Nvidia, wanting to have 144+ fps in every latest AAA game is insanely demanding for not really any purpose. I personally am very happy with 80 to 100 fps for AAA games. Gsync/Freesync makes this very smooth fps and frametime wise. Drop a few settings from ultra to high such as shadows and ray tracing. Being willing to accept such an experience makes your hardware lasts a lot longer. But, having the freedom to target different framerates depending on what you play thanks to variable refresh rate monitors and not having to worry about never dropping below a target to get zero screen tearing is awesome. Personally, I have a 27" 2560X1440 165 HZ monitor with a 5800X 3D and a 3090. I am perfectly happy with 70 to 100 fps in AAA games with a mix of high to ultra settings and I enable DLSS to Quality mode if necessary. Then, for older games, esports and indie games, I can max out the refresh rate of the display and enjoy silky smooth high framerate gaming. This way, I enjoy my overpowered hardware for older stuff and get amazing performance and it makes my hardware enoyable in the latest games for more than 5 minutes.
