Total agree with you if you borrow it it comes back better then new. If it has a motor and oil look black change it. Full tank of gas. And my rule is if I have to borrow it twice then maybe I should own that tool. If practical that is.

IN my trade i apply the same pholisophy. The tool goes back cleaned, oiled and ON the box, not in it so I am not rooting through their stuff. It's not your box, stay out of it. AND, if I borrow three times, I buy it. Because it also courteous to not have to go bakc a dozen times to keep using their tool. That's taking advantage of their generosity.

You have given me a great deal of inspiration from this most recent project. I will attempt to make myself a workbench similar to yours. I have been blessed from one of my brothers whom is truley the most gifted with his hands and eyes. I have worked with him and learned how to use the great tools I have. Can't wait to get started. BTW, you hit it out the park by suggesting folks to clean up borrowed tools. I have loaned out a chainsaw and lawn tractor...costs me hundreds to fix or replace them. Stay Safe, Bee Well. Loaned a snowblower to a neighbor. Had to constantly remind him that I wanted it back. It was finally returned - didn't check it, assumed the law of borrowing was adhered to. First snowfall that I needed it - it ran but didn't blow snow. Because it is now winter in the northeast I had to take into my house to work on it. Found the auger belt split in two different places. Took about a week for the new belt to arrive (none to be had locally). I will never loan even a screwdriver to that person again.
