Capcom Vancouver is gone, where do we go from here? Second Channel: / @stip02 / stip0_ Discord Server: / discord My Discord: stip0 DEAD RISING Development Archive: deadrising2mod...
Completely agree with you on this one STiPO. Ever since DR2, I think the Dead Rising franchise has gotten further and further away from what the original Japanese devs hoped it would become. One of the greatest things about the original game was the feel of it - something that could only be attained via the MT Framework Engine, which requires knowledge of the Japanese language to even begin to work with. The latest example of an MT Framework game is Monster Hunter World, which is literally focused around satisfying hits and "feeling good" to play. If Dead Rising is handed back to Japanese devs and writers, I have extremely high hopes for the next game in the franchise. Capcom has a big opportunity to hit the reset button on the Dead Rising franchise, and the next game has the potential to be something really really special. Japanese Capcom developers have been pumping out gold from their studios lately, and I can only hope they give Dead Rising the treatment it deserves.
Yeah, DR3 gave me the feeling that they really tried to give the player everything they could ever want, like they designed the game on the philosophy that players were saying "Wouldn't it be great if we could exterminate bazillions of zombies with bigger and bigger weapons?", and eventually they lost the plot. It felt like they designed it with good intentions, but they ended up taking out so many perceived inconveniences that it ended up way too easy and sort of boring. I still liked it, but it just wasn't quite Dead Rising. And I've barely touched 4. I bought it, I played through the intro, but I just... don't want to play it. I respect CV for really trying to make the best game they could, trying new things, all that stuff, but they just strayed too far from what made Dead Rising so appealing.
agree, not trying to offend someone here or act racism but I think the true original creator of Dead Rising mostly Japan team, Keiji Inafune combined with best lead writer Yoshinori Kawano & Makoto Ikehara could make a great dead rising. it just that it's a fact now that most video games that would succeed in a long run it always would be in Japan side. remember when crpg first emerged in west in 70s/ 80s with Ultima & such, Japan took inspiration from this game to make later the most popular much standing franchise of all time; Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy(not really an original idea huh) imagine that?! why can't Ultima or even Wizardry series in the west grew like their counterpart Japan? if DQ can get 11 series of iteration, why won't Ultima in the west?( yeah EA killed Ultima with 9 ) such a shame really...
i think you are correct about this. to me, it seems like capcom is more focusing on their Japanese market (See mh:w's success) and cutting their losses in the western market. Not to say there won't be any more western games from capcom obviously, but i think this means that heavily stylized western games or games spearheaded by western devs by capcom are much more unlikely in the future.
@@mik3191 I don’t know about it being the best game, but then I feel a lot of the hatred towards the game is because of the world. But if they had chosen to restrict the world size, people would complain, and because they chose not to restrict the world, people complain about that. To be fair DR3 had a lot of good mechanics like crafting on the go, but it definitely fell short as a dead rising game, but was a good indicator of where the game as a franchise could go
Hell, even DR3 was a decent game in the grand scheme of things. Not nearly as good as DR 1 and 2, of course, but by its own merits it really wasn't bad. I'd be down to watch videos on it.
This is hypothetical so I’m I don’t wanna build hype out of nothing. But imagine if the original developers did make a new dead rising, but it wasn’t dead rising 5, but instead an alternate Dead rising 2, a sorta dead rising 0.5 if you will, that would instead be a direct continuation of dead rising 1 with Franks story and would build off the DR1 engine and maybe add a few idea’s DR2 had. Like a bigger map, and maybe even combo weapons.
BagMan69 I probably shoulda specified. My idea is meant to be a soft reboot, that keeps the first games lore in tact, while being able to do what ever it wants going forward. Not that I wouldn’t want DR2 to be a thing anymore cause I love that game as well. they could very well implement chuck somehow, but me personally I’d rather they keep it frank centric if they go the direct/alternate sequel route. And yeah I wanted to say Point Five but seeing it typed out as .5 didn’t look right to me especially since I was also mentioning a possible dead rising 5
Antwon Mianus I’ve been saying it for forever. They could literally make a dead rising about santa cabeza. Like a dead rising 0 or something. “Where it all began” idk but something like that could be cool.
As saddening as it is that so many talented people lost their jobs, I agree with you that this could lead to a Dead Rising comeback possibly spearheaded by members of the team that started this beauty of a franchise. I'm excited for Dead Rising's future, the series has real potential and I hope it can get realized by Capcom Japan and not lost and forgotten
What's the potential of this game Vs a totally new zombie game? I mean the only thing that makes dead rising unique is the amount of stuff you can pick up and use and surely a new game could do that with a better story
@@SidneyTurnerOfficial hey Syd this week is a sale on the microsoft marketplace for the xbox one version of Dead Rising, I paid $6.00 and it runs awesome on my Xbox One X
I think Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 is canon and a solid 10/10, awesome playing SNES games on my Xbox One X! I think a Mega Man 64/Legends reboot would be hype..
James Howlett no they didn’t, Chuck couldn’t find his daughter which caused him to be in despair and help Frank West, Anne went into hiding and ran away because she didn’t want to be a burden to him anymore with the zombrex. We also play as a character that’s part of the orphan project by Carlito.
They never understood the original intentions of the game and just started turning it some hack and slash that no real dead rising fans wanted. Dead Rising 2 might've had cooler stuff but the original one was better as a whole. I blame this to the poor marketing to Americans. Here every commercial was like "ANYTHING IS A WEAPON USE THIS TV OR THIS SQUIRT GUN" which completely disrespected the whole point of the game. It was an homage to old Zombies and Video games with some dark humor in a sandbox.
Tyler Ghost Woah, Dead Rising 2, Off the Record, & 3 were fantastic experiences. I also enjoyed Case Zero & Case West as well. But in terms of a somewhat realistic zombie game, Dead Rising 3 takes the cake for me.
Tyler Ghost Nah, when it comes to realism, DR3 takes the cake. Nick wasn’t cocky, or determined as Frank West & Chuck are, he’s a shy, cowardly orphan who fixes stuff for a living. Unbeknownst to him, he was part of a project that kicked started the pandemic zombie outbreak in the US. The atmosphere was amazing in the game as well, throwing hundreds of zombies at you in a city while DR1 & 2 were based in malls. Sure you can be whacky, but Nick didn’t show off his motorcycle skills or photography while killing zombies, he put his mechanic skills to use, which is why I say DR3 is the most realistic to me. But this is my opinion so get over yourself.
RE never stopped selling well even with mediocre games like RE: ORC (which, ironically, made a lot more money than the "great comeback to horror" for the franchise), Dead Rising stopped selling well many years ago.
@Jimmy De'Souza Selling well doesn't mean "best seller of the year" or "one of the best selling series ever" but "selling enough to make money and justify sequels". RE6, which is considered the downfall of the series by many, sold 5m on PS3 and Xb360 alone (so, not counting PC and modern re-releases), Dead Rising 4 instead sold only 650,000 units. Other "bad" RE games? RE:ORC sold 3.6 millions, RE Outbreak (the PS2 game nobody remembers) sold 1.5 millions, Darkside Chronicles sold 1m (on Wii alone, not counting PS3 digital release, and you know how hard was for third parties to sell games on Wii), and those weren't even part of the main series.
@Jimmy De'Souza You're right in what you're saying, but you're also just missing the point I'm making. Resident Evil is a successful franchise, it had its problems but it's still something a lot of people is gonna buy regardless. Dead Rising is not a successful franchise, it had its peak but right now there isn't a lot of people interested on it, it's a niche product and this isn't going to change anytime soon. You are Capcom, which series is your priority? The game series that is selling millions of copies since the PS1 or the series that will likely have problems even surpassing half of a million? I really like DR and I'd love to see a DR5, but for Capcom it's just not worth it.
To me, DR3 was the last Dead Rising. Yeah it felt like something completely different, but it was still cool, it stayed true to the basics of the franchise and added some interesting stuff to the plot. DR4 on the other hand, added nothing, did nothing, it did not stay true to basically anything, and felt like a complete cashgrab (not to mention gameplay was mediocre and the fact that Psycopaths were no longer a thing is stupid).
Honestly I'm glad Capcom BURNABY (It's location was on still creek in the city of Burnaby, not Vancouver) Failed. The series was on a decline ever since DR2. Will we ever get a new DR game? Sure in about 10 to 20 years just like the time it took for a RE2 remake. The zombo game market is so saturated with crap games that everyone has soured on the genre.
F I honestly don't feel... totally bad about this whole thing. Either the series gets to rest before being run to the ground by mediocre sequels, or it gets a second shot at being one of my favorite franchises out there. Sucks about all the people who got fired over it, but that's just how the cookie crumbles. Best of luck to the guys at Capcom Vancouver, and best of luck to whoever is possibly handed the enormous responsability of reviving Dead Rising in the coming future. I can only hope that not only Capcom, but the C. Vancouver employees and the fans can all benefit from this in the long-run.
It may keep looking more grim as time goes on, but I'll hold out a candle of hope for it. Case West or OTR was the last Dead Rising release I enjoyed, but 1 is still one of my favorites ever.
1:31 All that attention and focus towards a singular game and they still botched Dead Rising 4. In all seriousness that's really shitty that all of these employees have lost their jobs, hopefully they can find work at another company in the field they love
Gotta be honest, I actually really enjoyed Dead Rising 3. Not to say that it didn't have it's fair share of problems, but i don't get why it's so hated. Dead Rising 4 though...yeah that goes without saying really. Still though, Sucks Capcom Vancouver got closed down. If they had more time to work on projects and were allowed to branch out for Dead Rising games, They would have put out some terrific titles. They're a very talented team, but the time and resources just were in their favour.
Killing zombies was never the main thing in DR, they were a distraction, an obstacle. While DR3 and DR4 were mostly design with the "Zombies lololol killing lots of them equals DR, right?" as the main thing. DR2 (OTR), and specially Dr1 are actually extremely unique games by design, while DR3 is... Your common sandbox with a lots of zombies in it, nothing more, nothing less. Dr3 was a decent game, but not a good DR game, in my opinion.
Yeah, for all the hate, DR3 wasn't that bad. The graphics were awesome and the gore was INSANE. Not to mention the randomized Zombie Model system made it really feel like all sorts of citizens had become infected and now were nothing more than mouths. Plus, even if it didn't have as many, the Psychopaths in the game were pretty damn cool. Albert STILL gives me the chills. And the voice acting, while a BIT goofy and hammy some of the time, was for the most part REALLY well done. Andrew Lawrence put his heart into Nick Ramos and as a fan of Recess (the show in which Lawrence played the main character, T.J. Detweiler) it was really interesting to see him become so fierce and so passionate.
But Dead Rising 4 do have some good in it, the map design while yes you can't go into every store, but I love it for feeling of a town during the winter it gives. And the car list in the game, Dead Rising normally have like 3 vehicles you can use into 3, but this one give you one of every kind of car you can find.
I feel bad for all the people that lost their jobs, but I'm satisfied that they finally took the Dead Rising franchise out of the hands of that hipster douche project lead. His vision for the franchise was the real problem.
Holy shit... I was sure DR was dead, that they killed it with Dr 4. But to even have a small chance, that DR could return to Japan, where it could get the respect it deserves, is amazing! It's never good thing to hear people losing their jobs, but you know, I would rather had DR just die off, than let these guys play with the corpse anymore.
And also I remember watching your videos, when you had a couple of hundred subs, and now you’ve got 20k, just want to say congratulations and keep up the good work 👍
RileyOfTheHarris bro you HAVE to play DR1. Once you get past the horrible aiming controls you're gonna have a blast. It's difficult, it's challenging, it's fun and it's got a good story. Definitely not a casual game but tons of fun. Highly recommend you pick up the remastered version on XBOX one
Hey man pick them up if they're on sale, dr1 2 and otr go on sale a lot for $10, if you get 3 (not as bad as people say) I'd play co-op, dr4 though, i wouldn't get unless it was like $5 or $10 which I've seen it sell for at gamestop
I think it's pretty fair to think the series ended with DR4, I can't see Capcom going back to the Dead Rising franchise after the recent failures sadly.
Dead Rising needs to come back to Japan if your a real Dead Rising fan. You'd give a shit also the other day I saw someone post a leak on reddit then delete it about Dead Rising 5.. No joke it seems like they might be working with Pre x Resident Evil teams such as Cod Veronica X & Resident Evil 2. How true this is I'm not sure it could've been fake but they posted information about the game being Dark & Open world like Dead Rising 3 but with it's original feel & Dead Rising 4 Physics with a darker element. & well detailed gameplay with gore basically studied & inspired by Resident Evil 2. If that guys who posted it up on reddit was true man I hope we see something soon.
Dead Rising 2 was my favourite in the franchise, Dead Rising 1 is a close second, the thing that tips it over is probably the co-op, I feel like the first 2 games have a pretty great balance of serious moments as well as comedic moments. The numerous endings were great to play for and the game did not necessarily force you into anything. I still enjoyed dead rising 3 however it did not feel like the same franchise to me, it was more of a crazy spin off that looked rushed and released to be an xbox one day one release. DR4 was the lowest point, I played the free 10 hours, it lost its charm and no soul was in it. Hopefully if a new capcom division takes over the franchise we can see it return to its roots.
if Vancouver had pooled their resources on not just Dead Rising, but many of Capcom's more popular, yet, defunct, franchises (Viewtiful Joe, Dino Crisis, Clock Tower/Haunting Ground, Power Stone, and Dark Stalkers), they'd find a niche on picking up scraps Capcom left behind. But.... Sweetheart deals with Microsoft to make half-assed sequels to a 2006 Tech Demo (and let's be honest, as good as Dead Rising is, it's ultimately a Tech Demo), do not a living make.
You get a knock on the door, capcom, "what would you have us do next?" A.) reMake DR1 more like the alphas. B.) find fresh blood, western studio. C.) find new blood internally, capcom japan. D.) [close the door on them] 🤗
I'd love to see a game about the incident at Santa Cabeza. And for DR4 to be written out of canon. And an actual human Frank West who would react realistically to being in Willamette again.
I'm so fucking sad this happened. The only Capcom series I care for is Dead Rising. Been playing since DR1 back in 06, loved DR2 (Case West, Zero, etc) , 3 kinda sucked and 4 was awful - but I was still looking forward to Dead Rising 5. 😔
I know a lot of the Dead Rising fan base didn't like 3 very much. And I'd definitely say that I understand that, but also don't agree. While lesser than it's predecessors for sure, I still had a lot of fun with it. It was too easy, Nick was a blank slate, and it was lacking in the flair that the series is known for, but there was good times to be had within. It's not Frank or Chuck's games, but still good. Or maybe, "good enough" would be a better term. That having been said, 4 broke me. I've never been more sad about a game. Dead Rising has been my favorite game since I put the disc in the tray in August 2006 and nothing is even close to taking it down a notch. It's the king. And to see 4 take such a sloppy haphazard approach to not only the franchise, but to call that he-beast Frank West while doing it? I'm not the kind of person who is easily offended. But DR4 offended me at the sub atomic level. My particles hate it. In every way. So while I'd never wish for anyone to lose their livelihood, and I know that most of the tossers who made the shit-show that was DR4 had already left CV by the time all this occurred, I can't say any of their problems are unforseen. Make 2 bad games in a row (just because I liked 3 doesn't mean it was objectively good), well folks just stop paying attention and giving you the benefit of the doubt. I do hope those poor souls who find themselves without work will land on their feet soon, and hopefully without too much strain on their families. That truly sucks for them and I'm sorry.
I think Vancouver deserved it, they proved they couldn't do it anymore with 4, and 5 was chalking up to be the same situation, if you can't produce quality products stay outta the industry imo
I feel like dead rising 4 was pretty much an unintentional suicide for the company you made a game and everyone hated it even me who freaking loved dead rising 3 and it's not that they just made a bad game they kept trying to pump out more to make people like it and won over a handful of people it tried too hard on a lost cause and ended up being a leach
I think the best thing that could happen is let the franchise recover a bit then reboot it with a japanese dev team by essentially remaking the first game using the latest MT engine with upgraded assets, a modernized UI and controls, no area loading and perhaps adding in stuff like a weather system and just more ways to interact with the world in general for example maybe an arcade to the mall where you can play arcade capcom games, changing the era say to the 80's would be cool too and I don't think many changes to the story would need to be made, in fact it may work better. I am sad for the people who lost their jobs but we have gone from pretty much knowing that there will be another game that will probably disappoint to not knowing if there will be another but if there is it could be brilliant again, at least we can fantasize about what may ultimately come of this.
Hey STiPO! Keep making your videos. (At your own pace :))I love your passion for this game, and I’m right there with you. This video brings me and others like me hope - hope of a true dead rising sequel. You are not alone as a fan of the niche wonder that is Dead Rising.
dead rising 2 was good game. dead rising 3 was good game. dead rising 4 was an alright game. dead rising was a good game. dead rising case zero was a boring game.
I love Dead Rising 1. Same for Dead Rising 2. Along with Case West and Case 0. Dead Rising 3 is meh. I’ll still play it. Dead Rising 4 was..... Awful. If Dead Rising 5 happens... I really hope Capcom can finally fix what went wrong between 2 and 3. Cause honestly I think after 2 is when the games started to not be well treated in my opinion.
I could see the series going on an extended hiatus but it would be absurd for Capcom to never make a new game. If a Japanese team takes over the future of the series could be very bright
Vancouver had it coming since after the release of Dead Rising 4. They rushed the game and took away the features that made Dead Rising amazing. Not to mention they messed up Frank’s persona and throws in the disrespect in shoving an EA style paywall to achieve the real ending, which is dickish and money grabbing. Now, to this day, I’m mad at myself for foolishly wasting my money on a disrespectful masterpiece hurt the franchise, but in my perspective, I only see it good with online and just zombie killing boredom, but it is nothing as fun as Dead Rising 2 off the record with sandbox mode and Dead Rising 2 Terror is Reality. Oh well, since Vancouver’s dead, guess I’ll treat Dead Rising 4 more like holding a Simon’s Quest copy.
The first dr game i played was dr3 when i accidently got it at gamestop, and since then i also played dr4 and now dr is one of my top 5 game series of all time along w/ series like fifa, cod, nba 2k, and gta
If they were short on money, why didn't they port Dead Rising 2 : Case Zero, Dead Rising 2 : Case West, Dead Rising 3 and all the DLC to Playstation. I and many others, would have bought them immediately.
You're right STiP0, as soon as Capcom Japan gave the franchise to Vancouver, the games went, erm, well dead shite 😢 Maybe this is a blessing in disguise, maybe now we will get a true sequel to the outstanding DR1 💪👍
Honestly.... I don't believe Dead Rising is done. It's got, even if not the biggest, still a very dedicated fanbase. Hell, when I went to the midnight launch for DR4 at my local gamestop, there was still a pretty decent line. I honestly think Capcom Japan isn't gonna let this franchise, pardon the lame pun, go dead.
I really have no sympathy for Capcom Vancouver, they ruined the story of Dead Rising and feel of the game.... after Dead Rising 2, they just milked the series
Capcom Vancouver was really harsh when they brought in Dead Rising 2 as the franchise grew I didn't really appreciate how they rush Dead Rising 4 as of right now Capcom Japan would be good idea in my opinion but who knows we have wait and find out for ourselves
Well with the up coming "Dead Rising: Reality" event, I believe that the Dead Rising franchise is likely to be continued. Else, it would be strange for a company like Capcom to spend anymore effort on a dead franchise.
The best way I can describe what happened to Capcom Vancouver and Dead Rising is like what happened to Core Design with the Tomb Raider Games. The fifth Tomb Raider game wasn’t liked, similar to how Dead Rising 3 wasn’t liked. Core Design tried to make the series better with Angel of Darkness, only to have it released to scathing reviews by the fan base. Dead Rising 4 promised to be better... Only to be released to scathing reviews. Just like how Core Design shut down, Capcom Vancouver shut down. Maybe Dead Rising could use a hard reboot, much like Tomb Raider and how that had a successful reboot with Crystal Dynamics.
Knowing that Dead Rising 4 left such a bad taste in people's mouth I really do believe, assuming it actually happens, Dead Rising 5 can only improve. Dead Rising as a whole is well known and loved IP I grew up playing DR1 and DR2 so I believe that if they release a new DR and stick to it's roots while still implementing new features may very well "revive" the series. But truth be told I don't know squat about game development.
I was expecting to play as any character who is in the military good ones but not bad I do not want to play as a civilian like nick or frank or chuck I don’t want to play as any civilians
Dead Rising has come a long way, as every franchise makes fuckups and big times, it still holds up as my favorite, because of the aging of the first game (unlike oblivion lmao), Capcom Vancouver tried to make a good game, unfortunately, dead rising isn't to them, a storybased sandbox game, its just a hack n slash. You must remember, that every dev takes games to different approaches. Dead Rising wasn't meant to be a continue story over and over be it reboot or sequel, it just had to have the story. Dead Rising 3 and 4 took gameplay to a good new level and a breath of fresh air, Dead Rising 3 had a more Walking Dead-esque approach in terms of atmosphere, but it doesn't work like that, DR isn't meant to be in a city, its meant to be in a mall. Which Dead Rising 4 got the mall, sadly they made you walk Willamette, which I did like. However, Dead Rising 4 in terms of atmosphere was more jolly and Christmas-y. What made Dead Rising so great was not THE weapons, not THE psychos, it was the atmosphere, the atmosphere was a small mall, it was even better when it was dark, you were supposed to feel enclosed, the story added also made the game better, I don't like how Dead Rising 4 takes the new infection like "oh lul, it happens because its new mutation", its lazy, but even then it cant really do anything else. I think Dead Rising shoulda just ended its story at 3, and maybe make prequels. Also the way infection spread in DR1 was a great climax, because you cant really stop the outbreak because carlito planned ahead of time, which made sense.
Oh gosh. I could go on for hours about the possibilities of a reboot... Like several people, I thought Dead Rising 2 was a fun sequel for the time BUT there was something that felt abscent from the rest of this series as apposed to the first one. I can't quite explain but DR 1 always gave me this weird anxious feeling.. like I could kind of feel the weight of that situation in Willamette. As ridiculous as the gameplay is most of the time, I can actually see the reality of what the director or whoever envisioned, and it's quite awesomely disturbing. If a new Dead Rising did surface, one can only hope it's anything similar to those sort of realistic posters they put together for #1.
Even if Capcom Vancouver was still there and making Dead Rising 5, there's no way in hell it would've been like the fourth game. It was a financial disaster and it was absolutely hated by most fans. What would've been the point of releasing a new game similar to Dead Rising 4? Losing more money? Whenever Dead Rising 5 comes out, if it ever, it is 100% going to be a departure from 3 and 4. The fact that it's going back to japan fills me with optimism. Dead Rising 5 will most definitely be a return to form. Let's just hope it does happen.
vancouver was shut down because they followed capcoms desires rather than their own, and it cost them everything. the thing to learn is, stay indie, keep your original fans happy, they are the reason you’re here in the first place, your company isn’t the reason you’re alive
I was pretty gutted about CV being shut down and I actually thought yeah Dead Rising 5 is a no go, I didn't think DR3 was awful, definitely a step in the weird direction but yeah DR4 was a mess... I love this channel for how in-depth you've been with the first dead rising game which is still to this day my favourite. And you just made me realise that there's still hope for dead rising 5, especially if it goes back to the people who started it originally, thanks for not being one of those people who just focus on the negatives and click baiting the hell out of this topic. Also if dead rising 5 ever does see the light of day I'd love to hear your thoughts on it ♥️
