Set the tone for things to come. From that point on we would see them mainly focus on pulling in more money with new expansions instead of developing current content further. Vanilla got way more patches than anything afterwards, and was basically the only time patches would introduce things that weren't endgame content or raids. What killed WoW for me was the realization that every expansion reduced content available rather than building on it and expanding options for players. Blizzard started making sure that everything they released invalidated everything before it, only in recent years starting to add timewalking options but always keeping them gated behind things like time limitations, events and so on, so they never really added breadth of content to the base experience. If WoW had done something more like the ESO style of adding new content as additional options besides the old rather than everything superseding and invalidating the old, I might still be playing WoW.

Yep, they started off at hostile 2500, meaning that players needed to gain at least 500 reputation to reach unfriendly, at which point theyd have safe passage through the tunnels
