I thought the same way about early PS3 controllers when they briefly removed the vibration function. I had no idea and thought it was broken.

First off dualshock 4 does not have concave sticks it still have convex sticks with walls around it, and second how is the r2 and l2 similar to the dual analog controller.

The DualShock 4 is its spiritual successor! Long handles, concave analog sticks, ridged L2 and R2. I missed that Dual Analog a lot, and DS4 brought it back.

Something nobody has ever mentioned before in a video that I had... The regular controller you showed first had a slightly textured D-Pad, whereas the dual analog has a smooth D-Pad and no texture. Mine had a smooth D-Pad which all 4 directions were completely separate buttons. Normally you push say right on a d-pad and the left side will come up, my controller d-pad was 4 pieces and not a single mold. My friends wasn't this way and I learned to like mine better. I can't remember if it had thumb sticks or not. This was around '97 or so. I've never heard of anyone else having one like that.

I don't understand how many people who are mainly nintendo users or xbox players find unconfortable the ps gamepad but on the other hand PS users demand the dualshock to remain the same with new PS systems. Btw, I prefer myself the dualshock as it was than the new PS4 dualshock.

I always found it interesting (and annoying when using imports on my PSP) that in Japan "O" means "Yes" (circled correct answer), "X" means "No" or "Cancel." (crossed out). Meanwhile in the United States, you mark something as a selection with "X" (yes), and zero/nothing/off are represented by "O". (no).

Yeah, this controller got overlooked by a lot of people back then-- myself included. I was still a pretty steadfast D-Pad user, and wasn't much of an analog stick fan. That's too bad, in retrospect; you point out a few key differences between the Dual Analog & Dual Shock controllers (notably the concave stick design) that make it a solid argument for the best PlayStation controller around... as long as force feedback/rumble isn't a deal breaker. Loved the video-- and timely, too, with the 20th anniversary of the PlayStation launch here in the U.S. less than a month away.

Can't believe I just watched a whole video on a controller... But man, always a good watch. Think I have a Playstation Magazine from back in the day talking about the anologue revolution with this controller... Will need to see if I can dig it up... Along with the articles on the neGcon and Jogcon controllers... They were, uhhh, certainly interesting too. Great video.

I had no idea that the Dual Analog controller existed! When I was growing up, it was the original PS1 controller, the DualShock 1, DualShock 2 and onward!

I actually went out of my way to find this very specific controller on ebay because of the concave analog sticks and longer handles. It was rather challenging to find since a lot of people always got this thing mixed up with the duelshock. I've been using it for about a month now since it came in the mail, and I've concluded that it is the best PS1 controller ever. This thing is so underrated, I actually prefer using this on my PS2 than the duelshock 2. Too bad it took Sony many years to come up with a proper successor for the PS4. Everything you talked about this controller is everything I love about the Dual Analog Controller. Great Video. This is the kind of stuff that I enjoy the most that you make, stuff that is more personal and analytic.

I own one of these, there's a bit of an issue with the analog controls twisting in their sockets. If your thumb isn't perfectly in the middle it's easy to twist instead of pushing. Luckily, with such large grooves keeping the thumb in the middle isn't too hard, but when you're used to analog contols that don't twist it's a bit bothersome at first. So that's a little issue you want to be on the look for with used controllers. Everything else is good, and yes, indeed more comfortable than the dual shock and the dual shock two controllers.

I found around 4 of those controllers at my thrift store when 3 PlayStation 2 controller combo lots came in, I got 2 with a PlayStation in box though I didn't look closely at the other 4 controllers. At first I thought it was a Sony imitation controller from a 3rd party but you enlightened me with your video. I will test the controller with my games.

When i was younger i had this off brand controller.. it folded in half. it was small, black, i think it had blue buttons. when folded in half there were grooves in it. the bumpers were on the outside when it would fold in half.. i loved that little controller! man, if you happen to remember the controller i described and have an idea what it was called.. i’d be eternally grateful!

We upgraded to a pair of dual analog controllers with my PS1 once my dad & I started getting into Gran Turismo. Didn't get dualshocks until we got a PS2. I can certainly remember the ridged triggers.

Oh man, I had one of those when i was a kid! I always thought it was a Dualshock, though, as we only had the one with the thumbsticks, and i didn't know any better. I thought the vibration features were only on N64 with the Rumble Pak.

I OWNED THIS CONTROLLER! I got it with a PSone at GameStop back when they were liquidating their inventory, and at the time I thought it was a very odd that the analog sticks had a concave design and no rumble! To this DAY I regret selling it off, and have not seen another one ever sense...everytime I come across a dualshock PSone controller, I'm always double-checking!!!

I'm actually shocked and amazed - I never knew that controller even existed, and if I did; I would've used it almost exclusively! The PS4 controller has the best feel and that controller is just like it; I always felt all the previous controllers' hand grips were too short and dug in to the hands, and were much less comfortable in general. Where can I buy this masterpiece of a controller from?! And don't get me started on the concave analog sticks; they just feel sooo~ much better. I have definitely got to get me a couple of these! Thanks so much for this amazing video!

Bushido Blade wasn't a Dual Analog compatible game. You must be thinking of Bushido Blade 2. Also, the tank game was called Tiny Tank.

You can actually use the rumble motors from a Dual Shock controller and put them in the Dual Analoge, all the connections and everything you need is already there. The Dual Analogue feels great.

I got the dual analog back in the day thinking it was the new dual shock. At first I was dissapointed but it turned out to be the most comfortable one out of the 3 controllers I had for the PSX. I'm still using it with an adapter to play on PC with emulators.

I know for a fact that I saw a dual-analog psx controller once at an EB in the late 90's that had actual R3 and L3 buttons on the shoulders, instead of pushing in the stick...but I've never been able to find any info on it. I thought this video would be it, but alas, my search continues

and before the dual analog controller was the Playstation Analog Joystick (SCPH-1110) controller, their first analog compatible controller (looks like 2 flightsticks on a arcade stick board). So as Arnold Schwarzenegger would say.... "Wrong..."

FYI the Dual Analog controller's motherboard has solder points for rumble motors. It also has plastic slots to hold them in place as well. So, if you want you can desolder rumble motors from a DS1 and install them in the dual analog.

I've read about people complaining that the rumble has a chance of burning some circuitry and stop working eventually. That is one reason why Sony had to take the motors out for the US version.

I actually have one of these controllers as my primary controller. It came with my PlayStation when I bought it at the Movie Trading Company. It came with one controller (i bought another MadCatz controller but because of it's condition, it broke quickly) 3 games, and the console, all for $40.

I have 2 of these forgotten controllers! They are some of my most prized possessions! The "twin flight stick'" emulation is freakin' awesome. This controller works amazing with games like Descent, Descent Maximum, and Ace Combat! These games are NOT compatible with the Dual Shock controller (being that it didn't exist yet) so you were pretty much stuck using the digital control pad if you didn't have the twin flight stick (which most of us didn't have). BUT WAIT! This unique controller, with its 'green light' mode, gives these flight games their much needed ANALOG control! If you can, get one of these forgotten gem of a controllers and try it out on Descent. It's night and day.

I remembered seeing this video way back. Flash forward to yesterday and I picked up another ps1 controller at goodwill for $1.99. Today I noticed the thumb sticks were concave. I thought; didn’t I watch a RU-vid video about these way back? So I looked it up again and watched it. So yeah, I got lucky and got one of these yesterday for $1.99.

I have one from when they first released them, only issue i ever had was some games not recognising the duel analog ssticksand having to brake down and buy duel shock just to play some games
