I've burned through 2 copies of Tapestry since it was released when I was 14. Closing in on 63 yrs old and it still remains in my top 20 all time favorite albums
Carole King is such a stupendous GIANT in the early days of pop rock n roll. Just an icon of mammoth proportion. Carole King is still alive and needs to be recognized for the enormous contribution she made to music while she is still among us.
I grew up in the 60s and 70s graduated and off to the marine corps. The best decade of music in my opinion was the 70s. I wish I could go back to the 70s and im sure many feel the same. Great Video THANKS YOU.
Yes, a great time for music. But I don’t want to go back. The Vietnam War, changing mores, the pill, mind expanding drugs, recession as the post WW2 boom started to slow down and domestic production started to move overseas, women’s empowerment just blossoming in a real way in the face of incredible misogyny. It was a very confusing, yet hopeful time which we got through, but I don’t want to relive it.
She really belongs to another era seemingly gone forever: a time when wildly commercially successful music could touch the inner workings of your soul and give an immense contribution to your growth as a human being. Where is it all gone?
Writer came seven years or so after The Drifters recorded "Up on the Roof." Also, King rarely says anything about Sedaka, and others have said his claim that they "dated" may be more than it was. Either way, King has been a wonderful part of American popular music.
I grew up listening to Carole's music on AM radio and while I don't care at all for her politics, I love Carole as a singer/songwriter and being a very beautiful human being towards others. It upset me learning about how she stayed 3 years with that sick moron who physically abused her.
We Are All Children of God. Through The Universal Laws , yes there really are Gods Government Law, the person you speak of hurt no one but her or him self. Karmic Law is real. Joel Goldsmith A Parenthesis in Eternity, I humble encourage reading, it's really a Gift from God 🎉
I just heard of her after watching Aretha Franklins performance in front of her and President Obama 🤩 tonight’s been like 🤯 old skool music injection §§ just what I needed
I like Carol Kings music, but, I reaaaly wish musicians and athletes would stay out of politics. Unfortunately for them, they get such a big head they forget that a huge amount of their paying audience don't agree with their politics. Linda Ronstadt found out in Las Vegas when she started talking about her radical liberal views during a concert no less. It pissed everyone off so much that they ripped her concert billboards up and stormed out. These are singers and songwriters. They should stick to that and avoid pissing off half their fan base.
@@DavidDudley-yy2ui She started a political binge about supporting Michael Moore who was the biggest hypocrite in the world because he made millions of dollars from capitalism all the while, like her preaching socialism. She basically got booed off the stage and the casino said they would never ask her back. It's a mute point now because she's no longer here. I liked her music but she like too many musicians and entertainers all think they need to tell the world how it should turn. They only hurt themselves when they piss off half their audience.
@@libertyjustice2703 right i gotcha . I don't really have a problem with anyone stating their opinion but there is a time and place for it. and if someone does run the mouth, they gotta accept the consequence. Carol King should notice that many in her audience are not liberal, I saw Rick Derringer here in Hawaii the audience appreciated his show but he did his flagwaving bit, and Hawaiians ain't all that down with it. Nothing ugly but there was a quiet moment.
Thank you for the great information. She's a cool personality. I'm a little saddened that so many wonderful people are liberal, which in itself isn't bad, at all; but the way of the Left seems to pave the way quite nicely for those who want to usurp total control of everything and everybody. Unbridled freedom is abusive, but so is unaccountable control. I like having the freedom to strive toward personal freedom that respects the freedoms of others to experience their best existence. I'm grateful to Ms. King for brightening my world in her uniquely special way.
The idea that women like Carole King or Janis Ian didn't believe they were beautiful blows my mind. I've always been drawn to the understated appeal of unconventional beauty that exists all around us and Carole King was a knockout in my eyes.
I've seen King's story on Broadway with Mom and Dad! What if Carole followed her overbearing jewish mother's advice, and teach music, instead of writing and producing it at 1650 Broadway with Gerry Goffin and competing with friends Mann & Weil?
I'm into something God(good). All Songs, plays, poems, films are about God, and purpose of Yours-EL-f as a Spiritual Being following The Path Joel Goldsmith ,A Parenthesis in Eternity Show me the Way Just call on my Name and I'll be there wherever you are... IT (God) IS, the Master Plan You witness in Action❤
Tapestry is obviously my favourite work of hers, but it's impossible to pick out a favourite track - true to it's theme and name, each track is part of a beautiful mosaic, only complete and whole with the other pieces in place.
as kid theree lp album of tapestry yet she her voice anthem my ear too late you got friend has stuck me head til to this day still remember yet always love that song as others she sungs
A couple corrections: "Gerry" is pronounced as "Jerry" The Drifters did not cover 'Up on the Roof' per se. Carole and Jerry wrote it for them when they were writing at 1650 Broadway.
I love Carole King, but she lived in a cabin surrounded by mountains, they call them hollows, but she spoke against building near the rocky mountains which included the hollows. But I still love her music, most laws and regulations are not meant for those with the big money. I know she meant well.
This was chugging along until having to look at a politician; one whose face reeks of insincerity. His fame is built on what he is, rather than WHO he is.
I like the story how someone opened the door of a back room at American Bandstand and found Carol and Leslie Gore wrapped around each other like 2 worms on a fish hook.
Protect nature from Yuppies! Where ever they settle Starbucks, High end Dinning and rising Real estate follow! This pushes the locals away or into poverty!
One has to wonder. If Carol King felt that she could not compete in beauty with her peers? How did they appear? She is like the very definition of beauty
i find it ironic that a woman who wouldnt tour due to" stage fright" that ended the city, would then go on stage & play to 70k fans in central park.i believe that would qualify as "stage horror".
James Taylor convinced her in the late 60s to start performing for audiences and being a recording artists. She became comfortable in front of audiences when she realized that they were “with her” and appreciated her aongs
"In the titular role"???? (11:28) I stopped watching, yes I know it was almost over anyhow. And spare yourself the trouble, I know what the word means, it's just plain stupid. It's like the word media, media, media over and over again. everybody wants to use the new word for anything they happen to be looking at, whether it be recording tape, paper, sand or a reporter, it's all media. Media is Latin and it means 'middle' period, just plain old middle. Another word is 'utilize', utilize, utilize, utilize, utilize, utilize, I could just puke. What does it mean? It means 'use' for the freakin' love of Mike what is wrong with the word 'use'? I am not close to being done, but I quit for now.
@@DavidDudley-yy2ui Do you have even a foggy clue what you are talking about? I read what you wrote, then I read what I wrote and I do not see any rational connection between the two. Once again I am dumbfounded by the eagerness of some people to put their ignorance on public display.
