Regardless, the show is a charming and fascinating cooking competition, and there are a lot of things about it that you might not know. From the prize the winner gets to the challenges of the tent, let’s take a look at the truth about The Great British Baking Show.

I think it the friendly attitude we see among the contestants has a lot to do with only home bakers welcome and no money prize for winning just an engraved plate. Removes the ridiculous drama falsely created then edited in and takes that nasty competitive edge off amerikans love so much.

I only just started watching this but, like others have said, I immediately loved this show for how different it was from most stuff I see. Everyone helps each other. They hang out when the show is done. They can carry on with their jobs while participating instead of having to drop everything for weeks. There is very little hostility. You get to see the weather changing through the clear tent walls. There's not a lot of yelling or criticizing. It's just nice. I do wish I could see what these bakers were capable of if they weren't fighting the weather and had a bit more time to decorate but... overall, it's an awesome show and I think the no cash prize is probably part of that. And I love how calm Paul is. Also the little bits of comedy from the hosts is soooo nice. I've never seen cooking/baking competitions with that.

I love this show. Although I liked the original hosts, I’m just as happy with the new ones. This is because the shows content (heart) remains the same. No TV show should be about the judges or the hosts, in such a way, that if they leave the show bombs. The heart of the show should be what keeps it going and I find this is what’s happened with TGBBO. The same warmth, wicked humour, cake highs and flat bread lows - and the wonderful finale - all remain the same.

9:38 It was in 2017. The real reason the presenters changed was the BBC sold the programme rights to channel 4 an independent station in the UK. Mel and Sue condemned the move over money and left. Mary Berry announced she would also be leaving.
@johnd6487
@johnd6487 3 года назад
I’m not so much sure the BBC sold it, as the independent production company that makes it demanded a lot more money. As a publicly funded organisation, the BBC has limits as to what it will pay for programmes and refused to meet their demands, while Channel 4 (a strange hybrid of a channel, as it is also government owned, but is commercially funded) was willing to pay extra and stepped in. The rest is correct though, it was reported in the press as somewhat of a scandal (“greedy production company holds our precious BBC to ransom” etc.)and Mary and Mel & Sue walked.
@rowwdycolt654
@rowwdycolt654 3 года назад
@@johnd6487 Actually it was Berry that started the foofara. She was loyal to BBC. She didn't want to piss BBC off because they have paid her well over the years. Sue and Mel followed at Mary's behest.

No big reveals or big secrets here, but actually kind of interesting background if you enjoy the show...which my wife and I very much do. They need to bring the "goofy goth guy" Noel, co-host back, though, he was one of my favorites. OH COME ON!! REALLY??? Why are people sooo sensitive? When Paul Hollywood said "diabetes on a plate" he wasn't bashing anyone or being rude towards anyone! He was just using it to describe how sweet the dessert is. It's ridiculous how some people take offense over a flippant comment! It's just like when someone calls a greasy dish "a heart attack waiting to happen " or "I can feel my arteries hardening just looking ate it". People have got to stop being sooo sensitive. I'm a diabetic and I didn't see anything wrong with his comment. I didn't take it personal or feel like he was being disrespectful at all! And that's because I know he was just saying it as a compliment to that dessert dish. (FYI: IF you feel the need to reply or send me a message please make peace with the fact that I will never read it. I refuse to do the back and forth debate on my comments).✌

Contestants have to pay for their own ingredients during the audition process - but are given an 'allowance' if they do make it to the tent. During the show they do not have to pay for their ingredients. I have noticed that many of the contestants bring spices, etc., from home. Most all English have an allotment. For those who do not have a garden or a piece of garden to plant, they can have pieces of land that are rented to local people so that they can grow their own fruit, vegetables, and flowers. ... An allotment of 10 rods or poles is about 250 square meters or 300 square yards.

S Lucas No, most people do not have an allotment. Most people don’t WANT an allotment, and for those that do, there’s often a waiting list.

A small but significant side bar - Bake Off is in a marquee, not a tent.

I will always miss Mary but Prue has transitioned nicely. I like her. Please bring back Mel and Sue.Even Sandy. I watched the 2020 season. I cannot with the two men. Please.

"Untold truth" is quite an exaggeration considering this is just a summary of things you likely already know if you've seen the show.

They do get a book deal as part of the prize! you forgot to mention that! not just a plate! and I don't miss Mel and Sue their humour was just silly puns! at least Noel is a comedian outside of the show. This is one of the best shows on Tv every season has been great! was upset Paul did not win with his amazing Lion Bread, but luckily he came back for the Christmas special and won!

@@tara1638 Same here. I've never seen the BBC ones but never liked Mel and Sue so it put me off watching, then I got interested after seeing a clip from the latest seies ( with Matt Lucas). I then binge watched the ones from 2017/18/19 and ended up liking Sandi better than Matt.....she worked better with Noel I think....good team.

Yeah....none of these are really 'Untold' The single Dish waster and where the Bakes go maybe but you can't be surprised about the no 'prize' thing.

I find it hilarious that diabetics got all offended. I'm diabetic and I assure you, they've never made anything that's low in carbohydrates. The closest I've seen is the assignment to make a cake using no wheat flour but of course, they used a lot of sugar. Paul Hollywood wasn't trying to insult anyone. Tell those diabetics; not everything is about you. Get over yourselves.

We are so lucky to live in modern times and the concept of temperature control is certainly not new. You can heat AND cool temps with these inventions called PORTABLE air conditioners and heaters. They can regulate the tent temp very easily. It’s done ALL the time.

Such an amazing program. With all that's going on in the world, this show is a true comfort. I never got into cooking shows because here in America, you have awful people like Gordon Ramsey (and I'm not afraid to call him awful because that's what he is) screaming at cooks and belittling them. I worked in kitchens. I know that it's a high stress environment and that chefs can be very mean and they absolutely yell. But I can't imagine what it's like being that woman where he placed two slices of bread to each side of her face and made her call herself an 'idiot sandwich'. How demeaning and cruel. How can he go to sleep at night after creating a meme of her like that? With eyes closed I assume. I'm sure she must avoid the internet to not have to run into that.
