This brutal torture device is pretty much the opposite of being hanged. A noose is put around the neck, and a large weight is dropped causing the noose to jerk the body up, breaking the neck, and getting the name The Upright Jerker. This is definitely one of the worst punishments in history, but what do you think is the worse way to go by the noose, down or up? Let us know in the comments.

An execution can never be termed humane no matter how hard one tried to reduce the pain. It gives me chills to even think about how the person in a death row feels when he's counting his breaths and knows he'd be dead soon and can literally do nothing other than waiting for the execution

Wyoming had a unique type of gallows called a "wilson gallows" that was controlled by a bucket of water that was attached to a pressure switch that was mounted under the trapdoor. The condemned would stand on the trap listening to the soft trickle of water running into an empty bucket and then after three to four minutes the trap would be sprung and he'd fall to his death.

No when hanged the way that's recognized as hanging, you drop & your neck breaks from your body weight & you die from a broken neck. Being a judoka who uses chokeholds to make my opponent go unconscious, dying from being effectively "choked out" would be the absolute best way to meet your maker. It's painless & you pass out in 5 seconds, then you die while unconscious.

I've heard of worse ways to hang someone. Compared to the Roman and Greek way of hanging, we Austrians found beauty in simplicity. Our version didn't require a platform, a trapdoor, pulley, weights nor strong men, not even a ladder! We simply tied people up and put a noose around their neck in a way that they could still stand - for as long as they want! However, after a while the legs will give in and they'll muster all their strength to stand up again, but the legs will collapse again and thus the noose slowly becomes tight...

The upright jerker would have the same effect on a person as a regular hanging. Only difference is the executioner would need to adjust the weight instead of the length of the rope, both are based on the weight of the person.
