I nearly choked when he started playing his music for you. The bass shaking the whole room and leading to your character's demise is funny and horrific.
As soon as i read BASS i was thinking "oh no" and my hunch turned out better than i expected. Haven't laughed so much at something so simple in a long time
I love how almost 12 years later after Amnesia: The Dark Descent, one of the scariest encounters in video games is still "what if something is in the water and you have to hop on boxes?"
And this game makes that idea a hundred times more terrifying by giving the monster the ability to knock the boxes around. The moment you land in the water, there is a moment of "oh no, this is going to be hectic."
I think the fear comes in part from the idea of being confined to such tiny, often unstable footing while in the domain of something stronger and faster than you, like you could fall and die at any moment
It's like the Molduga in BotW. It's a large creature under the sand in a desert, and if you are not standing on something higher than the sand it will jump out.
Goofiness is deceptively perfect for horror. Horror monsters tend to stay strongest when it doesn't look like they were manufactured by man to be purposefully frightening, rather they just kinda... HAPPEN to be horrific. Adding some unpredictable lunacy grants you a nice juxtaposition, AND it just makes the design far more memorable. I mean, we're fascinated by the unpredictability of both horror and absurdity, they're meant to be together.
Now that you mention it. I kind of now want an authentic looney toons or disney type horror game but it does not lose its edge, humor and goofiness. The slapstick nature of cartoons help to make it contrast with the usually dark themes of horror.
What I like about the "Do you want to listen to my music?" moment is that, whenever games punish you over a Yes/No option, it's usually because you picked the "Mean" option rather than the "Nice" option. Here, you basically screw yourself over by choosing the option that violates your own common sense.
“with all that said though i hope you enjoyed today’s video i had a ton of fun making this one and i really sincerely hope you enjoyed watching it i hope to see you again in whatever my next project ends up being goodbye for now :)” *Stands there for 11 seconds*
I love how one second the mannequins are just chillin, and the next they are kicking the shit out of you, 10/10. Also, loving Clyde’s updated design, his new expressions are great! Hope somebody doesn’t get too jealous~
FUCK the mannequins, man. The first like, many levels of this game keep on hinting at the mannequins being everywhere and doing joke scares with them, that by the time some come to life youve ALREADY been dreading them for forever
Clyde is one of those designs where if you have a plush of it you can love it or you can leave it out in a hurricane strapped to a tree all night. It's an amazing character
Levity is an absurdly powerful tool in horror. Being as gross and horrifying as possible constantly can get boring. "Even a monster at the door can become a familiar comfort." Letting your player feel safe, or even outright making them laugh, can give them a high, which will make the next valley of horror so much worse.
I think it's that lankmann made a replica of clyde and is wearing it so the viewers see clyde asking for help or anything and he can completely control the channel. oh nvm i finished watching the video.
@@simonbook1587 that a really interesting theory or lankman stole clyde clothes and is just wearing it after giving it a mini change sense we dont know if those are clothes or a part of his body
@@arandomthingintheabyss2062 I don't think he's wearing a hoodie, I believe his face is a kind of void, in doai clyde hasn't fully gotten out of the void stage. and while doai is a completely separate arg I just think the design choices have carried over.
PASTRA! If you can see this reply in this comment then we might have all the piece’s of the puzzle to help save you from lankmenn I know lankmenn will see this comment and take it down but the people by the name of gaming age and mecha dragon might have all the answers so please pastra if lankmenn doesn’t see this and you can write a comment on here you’d really be helping us help you 👋
The group of mannequins bum rushing and just wailing on the dude running for it had me laughing because of how it subverted the mannequins disappearing from the store trope
Another aspect of the frantic feeling is definitely the animations Everything in this game is immensely fast. Like every normal animation has been speed up by x2. That means YOU instinctively try to move, think, and act faster, I love it.
The success of Zeekers is really something I appreciate more than anything. They've got their own whole type of silly horror, and it really works in their favor by making a both VERY fun and VERY scary experience
Frankly my first thought was that he was wearing a "jacket" in the form of a harmless new design. Just my opinion but, I feel like Lankmann put that on Clyde so he couldnt run away from him if he ever attempted to. Just my opinion tho.
Lankmanns voice always catches me off guard. Every time I see him I expect some sort of deep raspy voice but he starts talking in that somewhat high pitched voice and feels very out of place. Somehow that feels more fitting though
I love how even when being kidnapped by his own creation pastra is still one of the most entertaining horror youtubers I've ever watched (Thiught I'd mention this as well since it's quite funny when I tried to type pastra my autocorrect decided to turn pastra into pastrami)
2 things. 1: I like Clyde's redeisgn it makes him look more emotional and a bit less derpy. 2: I'm now interested in the game despite not being a person who really plays horror games and I also like Ick's design as well.
Love the new changes to Clyde! The oversized zipper fits really well. Also, the way Clyde looks semi-sleep deprived is a really good touch given the Lankman ARG
Okay but can I just say that Clyde's glow up is fantastic! The zipper is a small change but it's size gives an extravagant feel, and every expression feels so real despite Clyde's unrealistic anatomy, with the eyes and mouth narrowing and shifting and the arms and tail twisting and curling. Really cool I'm not generally a fan of horror games, watching content about them is more my speed, but I might just check this out. Great job Pastra!
@@PurpleMoon799it ain’t really a spoiler; that’s a fact it tells you both at the very start and the description of the game on steam. It’s just a base for lore and telling you what to expect rather than giving you the full lore.
Theory about pastra lore: The zip means that someone can get in Clyde, I believe that lankmann added the zip to stalk what types of videos we will fully watch, Hence why this video was made because the video about it steals was well liked
I needed to ready this MANY times bc i didint understand what you saying and i still cant understand Edit: ok i understood what tou meant a litle and i wasint understanding was bc it didint make mutch sense in my opinion at least
I had seen this video and the It Steals video in the past and I'm just now realizing that this is the same person who made Lethal Company, this is why I enjoy it so much
the way Lankkman is shown, from the design to the poses (specifically when you see the very human looking eyes), are incredible, and Lankkman actually gives me the chills (I felt a chill run through me). Incredible job!
lol if you come across my comment, i wanna let you know that i wasn't trying to copy you whatsoever, just had a very similar thought 😭 totally agree tho!
I think something that adds to the chaos of the game is that there are no frames between when the mannequins are still and when they start moving after you. They don’t have any wake up animation or anything. It’s like one second things are calm and literally a second later there are a bunch of mannequins attacking you
It's great that Zeekers is getting some recognition now with Lethal Company (though some antifurs are kinda fucking with his personal life) and people are even going back and playing this game because of LC's influence!
I love Clyde's new expressions! His smile is scarier than ever, terrifying, also I love his sad-like expression at 1:40. (sorry for misspelling any word) Edit: (more feedback that no one asked for!) At 2:58 he looks absolutely... grumpy and disgusted, Again, he's so expressive now. 3:09 Him having a circle-like pupil but then having the funny stick pupil is so terrifying, I absolutely love your artstyle. 4:32 looks like my face after my friends say "What's ligma?" 9:27, He looks way more twisted looking than ever "I absolutely adore" his new expressions *stock laughter* Also, nice claws.
Non-english speakers will make an entire 600 page essay with the most beautiful wording any man has ever laid their eyes on then say "sorry I've only just learned english today so i might've spelled somethings incorrectly"
Clyde's redesigned postures look awesome, the old design has a place in my heart but this one is overall more expressive and I love it! also H̴I̷ L̵A̵N̴K̴M̸A̵N̴N̴
@@deboraluz27 there were 3 main methods that varied depending on my boredom 1. Was physically pain where I just did stuff like hiting him with a hammer or taking him 2. Was making him watch horrible media like cocomelon or futuristichub 3. Was making him play vr horror games but with pain simulation
As someone who considers themselves part of the writer's community, HOLY SHIT. Combining comedy and horror- those are two genres that just don't like each other. They repel like magnets facing the same pole. This game is an example of flying too close to the sun and *succeeding* and I cannot express in words how impressive that is.
First off, I am loving Clyde's new design. Second, even though I am terrified of what might happen, I'm really excited for Lankman's game! Also this game seems like so much fun, I found the part with the "Fat pj man" at 6:00 to be really fun but also panic causing. The upside down room around 3:48 and 3:51 also seem really fun!
Clyde seems more uncanny, yet more grounded, which I love. The out of place eyes, the windier poses, and the even less recognizable expressions take my favorite things about Clyde's old design and cranks them up. My big problem with Clyde before was that, as chaotic as his design was, it just felt too empty. There wasn't anything that piqued my interest or tied him to reality in a twisted way. His freakish nature wore off by the third video I saw him in, which was kind of disappointing since when I first saw him, I felt a pit in my stomach and the design was so sickening it made it legitimately hard to watch the video (which is either a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it). But that zipper, oooh boy, that zipper. That gets the gears turning. He's got something that binds him a bit more to reality, making his unrealistic qualities far more impactful. What happens if you open the zipper? Is there something inside? Is Clyde just a suit? It's such a dominant feature now and makes him go from a stupid orange gremlin to some fucked up otherworldly being that mocks our understanding of how things are supposed to work.
I didn't even know it, but seeing gameplay of the new horror (and really funny) game "Lethal Company" and seeing all those goofy and chaotic animations, the simple graphic and texture and most importantly, the sprinting animation, it reminded me of The Upturned running animation, so I checked it, and yup, Zeekerss made one hell of a new horror, chaotic and funny MULTIPLAYER game, he'll gain even more notoriety with that, hope he will continue on that path, and I really wish you will make a Lethal Company video with some compilation of you playing it with some friends of yours!
Even the player animation adds to both the comedy and the horror- in the lower stakes moments the cycle looks goofy and fun, but it quickly becomes very panicked looking during enemy encounters and higher stakes
Zeekers has recently made a original Resident Evil like game that from what I’ve played it’s pretty good. On a side note? Your voice acting at the end of this video was spot on man!
I was thinking that clyde was too simple and since it was based on your own thoughts most new fans wouldn't get it but now that it's more detailed I think any fans new/old would love it Good job!
Just the way the player character moves with the rapid flailing fills me with stress on its own *without* even considering the monsters that move similarly rapidly.
I love Ick's desire so much, its simple, but has a few of details that separate it, namely the teeth and how they form a wave similar to a heart monitor. Its really cute and clever.
The goofiness of a horror game can leave you scrambling to hold on to said goofiness and dreading when the game goes back to horror. One of my favorite pieces of fnaf 6 was when I noticed, not unlike many others who played it, that I was desperately holding onto those tokens in the day section and trying to avoid the night section. It just works
Fun fact about Zeekerss. He originally started off making really well-made experimental horror games on Roblox before he moved onto creating the games he is known for today like It Steals, The Upturned, and Lethal Company.
New design looks sick. Your art style is so unique! I love how you can see more emotions coming from Clyde. Keep up the good work! (Also, do you have a Discord server?)
I cannot put into words how much I LOVE the new avatar. It's much more expressive, but it's also much more stationary, so it's intriguing, but still easy to focus on. Also, the eye movements were a much-needed addition.
I don't think we'll see him in the next video :( Lankman did say that Pastra/Clyde won't be around cause he is going to be part of his game (also cause I think he's getting to his limit with him) and so we probably only see Lankman in the upcoming video
I like how the mannequins just kick you lmao I was expecting something awful and horrifying when you got swarmed by them but then they just started booting you in the face lol
If you wanna get the lord start at the hijacking video and then turn on subtitles just for the next video and look at the description for the rest of the videos and get to the end of each
If there's something I like in the genre of horror is comedy. Sometimes the genre of general horror gets stale but comedy is a nice takeaway from the general game. Great video as always.
Okay, I've been watching your videos for a while now, but I've never commented. I absolutely adore your art style, it's a perfect amount of uncanny to still be very charming, and I like the somewhat recent addition of the other character you're now playing with. Keep up the great content, I'll be watching for a long time!
Pastra: idk why I love this character. Character: silhouette, yellow eyes, huge grim. Pastra, this character is one orange hoodie away from being Clyde's brother.
I love how The Upturned seems like it's being played in fast foward the whole time lol Great video! By the way, I found your "It Steals" video thanks to RU-vid Recommends, and enjoyed it a ton. I'm def going to keep watching your vids from now on.
Zeekers is such a good creator! I remember when I was a little, zeekers would make incredible games on roblox. And you’d better believe I played them. “Silent dark”, my favorite of his, had such a creepy atmosphere with interesting lore that I didn’t understand at the time. I don’t know if you can but it’s really worth checking out.
I love the idea of having two different plots going on at once throughout a video, the great reviews and content paired with a spooky little side story goes great together! Ps. I love the new design! So much more emotion and personality than before
I find it funny that the "terrifying and also hilarious" theme perfectly follows with Lethal Company, too. The spastic and fast-paced horror causes a lot of laughs but (as I can attest from personal experience) also scares the life out of you. I felt my soul nearly leave my body when I ran into a nutcracker once. I've also been wishing there was a single-player mode for Lethal Company, so maybe I'll try this sometime XD I'm sure I'd have fun.
Dude im so happy seeing her new designs and how active and lively he is and how you've learned how the character is not always needed its wonderful to watch him stretch and smile like a maniac while st the same time simply shifting his gaze sometimes when a exaggerated movement would be odd, wonderful to see you grow as a content creator
there are just so many things I love about this. I may have to check the game out when it's not nightmare-inducing-o-clock. On another note, even with my awful attention span, your videos are some of the only ones I find myself always fully captured in. I love the way you lay them out and explain the gameplay combined with clips of you playing. I love your videos dude
Ok, first things first, HOW did you manage to make Clyde look even better?! From what I see, the poses are exactly the same as before, but the expressions and exaggerations of the art style are just PHENOMENAL!!! And the fact that you showed off a more silly game makes me very happy as you were still able to analyze the quality and detail that went into it which is just so freaking wholesome but also shows your talent in this field. I would REALLY love to see footage of you playing it as the scene of you just hysterically giggling while going "No you bastard!" was just so funny and relatable for when a character screws you over in a game. (Unless you're too busy of course! Remember to take breaks!) However and this might just be the stylization... am I the only one who thinks Clyde is starting to look more like Lankmann? Again it might just be the shape of the face and I'm looking too deep into it but still something interesting nonetheless!
The water slug reminds me of the terror I had to go through playing the early water level in amnesia. both had the same mechanic of a monster waiting for you to dip into the water.
The upturned also features 3 bosses, 2 that appear and attack the player on more than 1 floor. Fat pajama man: crashes through the ceiling and SPANKS you. Has infinite HP, and adapts to repeatedly thrown objects. Mr. Ballen: goes through the water, lurching for some lunch. Shrimp: hungry dog on the 3rd to final floor and below. On EXACTLY the 3rd to final floor, he will be slowly becoming hungrier to the point he RUNS at you. instantly kills if starving and touches you. Very flexible diet though.
