Thanks for sharing this. I'm a retired church educator and love these older films. I agree, mountain meadows was an important, tragic part of the equation.

I recognize this one as a Ken Verdoia production that isn't bad, for 1986... There has been considerable information that has surfaced since, and I would direct the the reader to "The Mormon Rebellion: America's First Civil War" by Will Bagley and David Bigler. This one fails to mention the murder of Parley P. Pratt in Arkansas or how Pratt's "widow," Eleanor McLean whose husband Hector shot and stabbed PPP after foiling an attempt to kidnap her children. Eleanor brought back to Utah on that wild buckboard trip with Smoot and Rockwell, and her appearance at the July 24, 1857 gathering at Silver Lake fueled the fires of rebellion. David Bigler, a former executive with US Steel, pointed to events at Fort Limhi as the reason for Brigham Young's sudden decision to allow U.S. soldiers to enter Utah and Cumming to replace him as governor. Originally it appeared Young intended to relocate all of the Saints to Oregon territory, but an attack on Fort Limhi by Shoshones, removed that option. Young essentially had to accept Buchanan's offer of a presidential pardon "at gunpoint."

Seeing the rich history of Mormonism, I have a deep and profound respect for all of the people who died with the skirmishes and oppression by the national government. Although I'm not Mormon, I feel as though this is what Christianity *should* be like. Enduring with great faith despite all that threatens them.

Thank you. I grow tired of the anti-mormon rhetoric, dismissing everything that occurred. Women raped, men women and children murdered, homes burned, land stolen, driven from New York all the way out of the country to Utah. Many dying along the trail. Forced out in the wintertime over and over and over. Even Van Buren said their cause was just, but didn't lift a finger for fear of losing the next term for presidency. Eliza R Snow, a great woman, was raped by many men so brutally one time, that for the rest of her life, she never bore children. The MMM was done by a few, who were more than livid about the above spoken, knew the Missourians personally but should NOT have taken justice in their own hands! "Vengeance is mine saith the Lord, and I will repay." I continue to read, pray, sing, and do as Christ would have me be. I include the bible in my studies daily, I watch my thoughts, I am careful at the media I and my family watch, I follow the health code. The Spirit I have felt many times in my life in this Church. They are undeniable to me. I glory in my Lord and am more grateful than words can express for His Holy Spirit, His Church, His word, His revelations and His apostles and prophets. I look forward to the millennium.

The Mountain Meadows massacre wasn't a church-ordered event. It was individuals who took the matter into their own hands, the leader of it was executed by Mormon Militis after a court trial

was there a war in utah or not?

There was no "war" no one was wounded and no one died. Except at Mountain Meadows Massacre, where the Mormons used multiple forms of deception including a false flag approach with a white flag of peace, then John D Lee, making Freemason signs of peace and security promised protection IF the train would only give up their guns as a peace token to the Indians (Mormons dressed as Indians). This done, the Mormons slaughtered everyone and kidnapped 17 children, blaming that on Indians, too. But the army lost only wagons to some Mormon attacks. There was no penalty for any of the Mormon violence.

The Mormons used guerrilla warfare and terrorism to achieve political goals. It was a war against the US government.
@whitewarrior4777
@whitewarrior4777 8 лет назад
***** That's a false statement, the Mormon War in Utah resulted in the deaths of over a hundred civilians and several people were wounded on both sides. The US deployed troops in Utah to apprehend the Mormons and the Mormon's response was to delay any action with the US troops by burning their property and harassing them whenever possible. Their were several skirmishes and a few people were wounded on both sides and several were captured. Besides that their were also Indian raids in Utah which resulted in additional casualties. It's considered a war between the Mormons and US government over control of Utah territory and ended with a negotiated agreement.

White Trash You are in serious error. Provide one link to defend your claims. No one died in the so called Utah War. no one except the innocent victims of the Mountain Meadows Massacre. No even Thomas Kane was wounded. Nor was anyone else. Capture of some one is not a death nor a wound. The reason for the military presence in Utah was to establish a military base and to bring the treasonous Mormon Land Pirates into line with Civilization. Nothing happened to the Mormon Land Pirates, they went on as before.

***** Actually there were many fatalities and many people were wounded on both sides including US soldiers and Mormon settlers alike. The Utah War was under way several months before the Mountain Meadows Massacre occurred beginning with a US Army expedition to evict the Mormons from Utah. It was a war fought for control of Utah between Mormon settlers and the US government which was settled by a negotiated agreement which permitted the Mormons to stay in Utah under US Federal authority. www.historynet.com/utah-war-us-government-versus-mormon-settlers.htm

I find it odd that one asks about treasonous actions, and a responder submits approval for treasonous actions, that being the extermination order of United States citizens(By Governor Boggs). I don't recall what clause of the U.S. Constitution allows for the extermination of a people for practicing religion(But then again look what America did to the Indians). This presentation also forgot Ohio and New York as an area the Saints were bullied out of(just mentioned for accuracy's sake). As a note, I would ask Maxwell Silverhammer what action he refers to as treasonous? (I am curious).

@Kenzie K As you noted, the Mormons don't mention the REASON for Governor Boggs' Extermination Order. Earlier in that year, the Mormons had issued their own Extermination Order -- claiming that they were going to drive out every gentile from Missouri because, as the Mormons said: "God has given this Land of Adon-Ondi-Ahman to us; therefore, we will exterminate all the Missouri gentiles." Governor Boggs responded: "If there is going to be anyone exterminated from Missouri, it will be the Mormons -- who have threatened treason against the State of Missouri." The extermination Order did NOT (as is, often, falsely, reported) say to kill the Mormons, it said to "exterminate" them -- in other words, to drive them out (just as an exterminator drives out the pests from your house the exterminator doesn't go around killing all the pests]).

They couldn't come to Utah . Lott Smith burnt miles and miles of Wyoming. Hard to get your horses fed when everything is burnt. Seven men stopped the US army. Anything is possible through Jesus Christ.
