I made the bulgar, arugula and bean salad last night for dinner after watching this and it was sooooo good! I would not have tried it without your recommendation. I appreciate having your channel as a resource in trying out new recipes. Thank you for your inspiration and humor that you share with this community.
My sister and I have been making the French Lentil Soup with Tarragon and Thyme every other week for years! We can't get enough. You have just inspired me to get the book and make the Bulgar, Arugula and Cannelini Salad. Your tude and the editing of this video were so good. Thank you!
Gosh I've enjoyed your journey through this cookbook! I especially love this wrap-up video with all your humility (from amateur cook to an amateur cook with a bit more confidence), honest impressions of the book (five year old Eli needing pictures), and cooking up your favorite recipe (which I will soon be making for Christmas morning breakfast). Please know that you are one of my favorite RU-vidrs and that your work planning, cooking, filming, and editing is truly appreciated and loved by many more than just myself. Thank you again, and I'd love to see more lovely content from your wonderful channel!
Wow--you have no idea how much that means to us. Thanks for those kind words and for being a longtime supporter! I would love to know what you think of the Mushroom & Spinach Strata. Merry Christmas 🎄
Loved seeing your top 10! I can attest to the how good the Pumpkin Crumb Cake is and my best friend went nuts over the Rumnog Cookies. It was such a fun adventure seeing you cook all those recipes. So glad you are carrying on!
I love everything about this channel, this epic series, your perfectly normal kitchen, and the tenacity to cook through over 200 recipes!!! 🥇🏆🏅 I’ve had this book for years, I love the deli mac salad- learned that only radishes bring that tangy snap! I think I will buy the 10th Anniversary edition based on your rec. Thank you for all your delightful insight🙂🤍🙋🏼♀️
Thanks so much! That means a lot 🙂 I have to admit, the deli mac salad was not one of my favorites originally, but I'll have to make it again because I love creamy macaroni/potato salads. I think I just didn't add enough seasoning the first time. Hope you like the 10th Anniversary edition--I think you will! 😉
I love the lemony roasted potatoes and the braised seitan w/sundried tomatoes and kale also. Also on my faves list is the lentil sloppy joes and the moussaka! Your vids in this series are fantastic and have been inspiring me to pull it out more...planning on making the seitan pot pie this weekend :)
I agree about needing pictures in my cookbook. I often check amazon reviews to see if people complain about the lack of pictures before buying a book. I like to eat with my eyes before I make a recipe.
Honestly, surprised that the lemon bars didn’t make the cut. Bonkers wonderful! The stuff of my childhood. That midsummer corn chowder is pretty bomb, too. Looking forward to trying your #1.
Lemon Bars were up there for sure, but it was SO hard to narrow the entire book down to top 10! And, I purposely only picked two dessert recipes, which made that decision even harder!!
OMG. where do i start. i love the sass, the no nonsense talking and the way toy mixed in the recipe with the countdown, i loved that, genius!!!!!! and I REALLY SAW AND APPRECIATE THAT YOU EDITED that timelapse of frames from the veganomicon videos!
I haven't tried all the recipes in this book, but I will try your top ten. I like the Acorn Squash and Black Bean Empanadas p.55, but I only make the filling (can't be fussed with empanadas) and put it in a wrap and grill it like that, eat it with quac on top. Love the Curried Carrot dip p.62, with cucumber slices for dipping. For sweets, I like the Chocolate Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies p.236. Love your channel! What can we expect now? Are you going to go through another cookbook? Maybe feature some of your own creations?
Your version of acorn squash and black bean wraps sound delish! I don't think we're going to do another cookbook for a while--I want more freedom, lol! We have lots of ideas for future videos, and yes that will include my own recipes :)
Hello from Georgia. I've had that book for at least 20 years. I used to watch Isa Chandra and Terri on their utube "the ppk" - I think you can still watch it. Isa Chandra is such a unique person who does her own thing her way. Haven't touched that book for years, but I'm going to look up these recipes and make them. 1st time watcher; I like your style - take care. I'll be back. p.s. Have you checked out her "Appetite for Reduction" cookbook; some delish stuff in there.
I only recently found your channel and I have binged watched all of your videos starting from the beginning. I really appreciate your cooking all of the recipes in this cookbook. You see, I have a cookbook addiction problem. I have just over 300 cookbooks! Most of them vegetarian or vegan. This creates its own problem because it's sometimes hard to look at a recipe and know if you will like it. The rankinsg you gave of your favorites from the Veganomicon helps someone like me know where to start! Thanks for a job well done!
WOW!! I thought I had a lot of cookbooks 😆 Thank you so much for your kind words, and for suffering through our first few videos! I hope you enjoy my top 10, I have a feeling you will 🤤 Would love to know if you make any of the recipes and what you thought!
Hi Anne, since I'm looking for a good vegan cookbook I would like to know if you have any favorite? I may precise that I try to cook as whole food as possible :) Thank you in avance :)
Thanks for sharing!!! My favorites from this book are the Eggplant-Potato Moussaka, the Red Wine Roux, and the Jamaican Yuca Shepherd’s Pie. I haven’t yet tried the recipes in this video, but they look amazing! I’m grateful for the time and effort that went into this series. It’s so nice to see the process and results! 🙂
Thanks so much Angelica! I love hearing others favorites. The Moussaka and Red Wine Roux are some of my favs as well! In fact, the Chickpea Cutlets with the Red Wine Roux were definitely in the running for the top 10. If you haven't had both of those together, it will make your night!!
I've had this book for years too (maybe about 10) and glad I just found your channel to inspire me to actually use it, lol!! Thank you so much for offering your time to help the masses. I sure appreciate you! ☺ If you go through all recipes of more cookbooks, please do tell. I have several cookbooks recently purchased already that I hope we share. Thanks again!
I'm glad I could provide some inspiration!! We probably won't do another cookbook too soon, but definitely will in the future. Is there one you would like to see? One on my list is The Wicked Healthy Cookbook.
One of my favorites from this book is the spicy tempeh that I think they put with pasta and broccoli raab. SO good. The tempeh is good with so many things.
Thanks for what you're doing here Eli and Luke. I've only recently found your channel, but it's quickly become one of my favorites. It's obvious you truly care about what you're doing. When I was starting my vegan journey a friend gave me her copy of the original Veganomicon. I found it overwhelming and didn't get very far in it before passing it on to my sister. This video convinced me to give the 10th anniversary version a try. I agree... It's sooooo much better, like you said, in every way but one. They omitted the red lentil-cauliflower curry recipe (#6 on your list) and replaced it with chickpea cauliflower curry (pg 282). Did you choose an omitted recipe on purpose so I'd have to go out and buy the original version too? lol Again thanks. Truly enjoy your onscreen personality Eli and Luke's editing is excellent too. Cheers!
Charlie! This is one of the kindest messages we've ever gotten--I truly appreciate it. And, I do remember there being 1 or 2 recipes they took out of the Anniversary edition, but I didn't realize one of them was in my top 10!! 😂 I'm glad you mentioned that. I'm also really looking forward to trying some of the new breakfast recipes (specifically the sausage, and tofu scramble). Let me know if you've already tried those--I'd love to know what you thought. Thanks again for your support and kind words, and I'm glad we provided some inspiration 😃
@@TheVeganTestKitchen I am functioning within acceptable parameters, thanks for asking and I assume likewise. Also, I think I posted on your Facebook that I have used your donut recipe only I bake it as a cake and it is a real hit!
Hi! 👋 New subscriber here. I have the old edition and haven't used it much but I'm dedicating myself to it now and am reading it like a novel. I've made the chickpea cutlets a few times and enjoyed them. That's all I've made in all the years I've had this book! For some reason I'm not inspired by it 🤷♀️. Is there any point in upgrading to the newer edition?
Love the lemony roasted potatoes. Also the tamarind lentils are amazing. Even my husband who regularly thinks he needs to add a sausage to my cooking loved them as is and went back for seconds. I'm going to try your other suggestions. Thanks!
I'm a fan of the tamarind lentils as well! There are so many great recipes in this book, it was really hard to pick just 10. If you're a fan of "eggy" dishes, you have to try my #1 pick 😀
"You're a five-year-old!" : ) I am so glad I found this channel because I have been on the fence about buying Veganomicon, going so far as to insist that people not buy it for me as a birthday or Christmas gift. Now, I am thinking of getting the new edition. TFP!
I loved your top 10 recipes. I am going to make them this week. Can you do another video of your other recipes that are your favorite? Because you said it was hard to cut it down to your top 10. Why not do a top 30? 😁
Lol, I may revisit in the future and do more! However, I'm glad you enjoyed the top 10--I think you'll definitely find them to be awesome recipes. I would love to know when you make them and how you feel!
Comparto el curry de lentejas rojas y coliflor es espectacular, la ensalada cesar de tofu también es riquísima. Es cierto me pasa lo mismo con el veganomicom, hay q leerlo y animarse a probar. Exitos!
Yes! It has all that stuff--however, they don't go into great detail with knife skills, so don't expect a full course. It's mainly how to cut some common things like onions and garlic. They do talk about how to cut some of the more uncommon fruits/vegetables in some of the recipes though. There are a lot of great tidbits on cooking/equipment, etc.
@@TheVeganTestKitchen oh great!! The one thing I feel like is missing in any cookbook I've ever had is what type of knife works best for what type of vegetable. I might get the 10th anniversary one. I prefer picture books too lol
I can’t wait to purchase and make all the recipes as well, sounds Ash-solutely delicious 🧟♀️😋 make a dish to dine while watching the (new to me) “Evil Dead Rise 🔪🧟♂️”
Now you're making me work! 😆 I think I'd have to narrow my least fav down to: *Manzana Chili Verde (ironically our first recipe); it was too sweet for what I was expecting. I think I would like to make it again to see if my taste has evolved. *Sweet Squash in Mole Sauce; I think I'm just not a huge fan of mole sauce, and paired with squash, it just wasn't doing it for me. However, using the mole sauce on/in the Mole Skillet Pie was delish. *Whole Wheat Soda Bread; it's been a while, so I can't pinpoint why I didn't like it--it just didn't have a lot of flavor to me. *Ancho Lentil Soup as well as Plantain & Pinto Stew; again it's been a while for these, I just remember I didn't like them that much, or at the very least, didn't leave a big impression. That being said, I would actually like to make some of these again to see if my tastes have changed or cooking skills have improved, lol.
