Hey Sarah, Im in the UK I have three that I love!! they are, BOSH!,Deliciously Ella & Avant Garde Vegan ( Book Vegan 100 Gaz Oakley) keep up your great work and VIDS!! BIG LOVE XX
I like both styles. Seeing you make things in real time comes out on top imo. Btw, I came to similar conclusions when I reviewed this cookbook a while ago. Nice exciting ideas...execution, not so much.
Mary's Test Kitchen // Vegan Cooking Hey ! I was going to write something like "I think I prefer with the voiceover as it looks like Mary's test kitchen videos ! ". I love you both by the way, you're so talented at spreading the vegan message in an awesome way with such great recipes and personalities, thanks a lot !
Sarah, I believe both styles make the video complete👍🏽 I don't own Thug Kitchen and don't plan to purchase. I do own Vegan Comfort Classics and agree... it is excellent!!! Mary, I hope you did not have to disable comments on your review of this book due to hateful responses. I am so sorry if that was your experience. I am an American Aborigine, labeled as "African American", and have no interest in this book due to the language content. Now that two vegan, RU-vid wonders (you and Sarah) have not given the recipes high regard there won't even be the thought of, "maybe I should at least try it"🤔. Thank you both for your book reviews and all the wonderful recipes you share!!
Cooking in front of the camera for sure! I agree with your review though! I bought this book when I first switched to a vegan diet. I found the methods were useful as a new vegan, but I ended up adding things to every recipe I tried! I haven’t tried the chickpea salad recipe however but def will now!! It looked really good!!
I love voiceover because when I watch recipes back to make them I can kind of scan for what I'm looking for. But I also love seeing someone cook it too so I know what to do when I make it. Either way works! Those almonds look good by themselves yum.
Thanks for the review (i like both formats, but i prefer this one)! :) Would be cool, if you could review one of those cookbooks: • vegan 100 by gaz oakley • the edgy veg by candice hutchings • sweet potato soul by jenné claiborne • the happy pear (it's a series of currently 3 books) by david & stephen flynn • the plantpower way (it's a series of currently 2 books) by rich roll & julie piatt • the wicked healthy cookbook by chad & derek sarno • the lotus and the artichoke (it's a series of currently 6 books) by justin p. moore • the how not to die cookbook by dr. michael greger • the china study cookbook by leanne campbell
I enjoy a combination of both, just like in this video. I like that I could easily follow the recipe with a voice over and then see you eat and comment/review after each recipe👌💗
I’ll be honest, I like both formats. I like that your videos aren’t always the same. I think if you do which ever you’re feeling like at that time it works. ❤️
I rly appreciate your honesty. also your knowledge of food & culinary terms is what drew me into your channel. A lot of vegan YTers (food bloggers in general) don’t have videos like yours. You hit all the components of the cook book review. You are truly meant for YT. Your editing, angles, everything is always on point. Even how comfortable you are on camera, never forced or never seem fake! It’s great. thanks for being awesome!
I like both styles of recipe videos actually - I think you should keep doing both! The voice-overs have a more polished feel, but the cooking in front of the camera videos have that cooking show vibe, which is also great!
I personally prefer the voice over, but I love all of your videos without exception.. it‘s your personality that makes them my favourite on RU-vid :) And I definitely agree with you that I mostly watch videos for inspiration, not exact recipes. Thanks for the review, I really do feel like you‘re being 100% honest and that‘s amazing :)
I got this cookbook for Christmas last year and I absolutely LOVE IT. And I’m so happy to see this video! And I always like you “live cooking” more than your voiceovers. 🖤
I prefer the voice overs but I will watch either way. I have a few thug kitchen ebooks. They make me laugh out loud. But I do think some of the recipes are under seasoned. I'm not one for following recipes exactly anyway, but they are fun to read and do have some good ideas.
I think this is the best kind of format because you see exactly what you do, there's not too much extra talking/waiting as in the vloggish style ones but you still make it personal because we see you doing your review!
I think I prefer the voice over, not because I don't like seeing you in your videos - I love your face! - but because it is easier to see what exactly you are doing. How big to chop what, which degree of cooking/simmering ... you get the point. But please keep doing the infront of camera taste test because, as I mentioned, I love to see your face :)
Voiceover as well as cooking in front of the camera are both great, so whatever is easier for you/encourages you to keep making videos. Loving these consistent uploads, your content, and your genuine love of food! I really enjoy that you don't go over the top with editing, camera angles, special effects (???), but you're still one of the most watchable RU-vidrs I am subscribed to!
I like when you cook in front of us more !! It just feels more natural and you add in some commentary along the way so it feels like we’re with you! I also like seeing you cook :)
@sarahsvegankitchen answering your question: I like both styles! I sometimes want to see you just cooking your own recipes and foods in front of the camera but I enjoy the variety of u also doing the voiceovers. Do both
Definitely prefer in front of the camera than the voice over. I really like that you do several recipes in one video, it's relaxed and natural and also makes the recipes feel more easily achievable even when you are attempting more challenging ones! I think you are fabulous Sarah keeep it up xx
To answer your question, I actually really liked the combination of the voice-over combined with your taste test clips and comments! I’ve been wondering about this cookbook, so thanks!
We usually fry our plantains, but they have to be super thin to come out crispy. Though, I do love some thicc tostones. It would be interesting to try air frying them! Also, I like both styles of videos!
MsTink1020 that book is soooo great. I can't tell you how many times I've made the creole kidney bean sausages, collards & cornbread...that combo is on point💚
Hi, Sara! I'm fine with both formats but honestly I much prefer seeing you cook and talk directly to the camera... It's like I'm right there cooking with you and I love that. Lots of love from Spain! xx
Gaz and Michael are at opposite ends of the vegan spectrum. Gaz is all about the aesthetics (taste and look) and Michael is all about the health benefits. They are both superstars in their own arenas, so it will be interesting to see your take on their books.
I got Plants only cookbook from Gaz and I tried a meatloaf but i didn't like it. I might end up giving it away. The recipe I really to make over and over again from Gaz is the broccoli pesto pasta with a splash of lemon juice on top.
Your voice is very calming. I watch cooking videos when I feel anxious, and I just want you to know I am a big fan and your videos have helped me calm down. Also I feel like I learn a lot as someone who is transitioning from meat-eating to plant based.
Both! I like the artsy style you can achieve with the voice overs, but also how it makes it feel like I’m at a friends house chatting while they cook when it’s live.
I like the cooking in front of the camera style, it feels a bit more personal and I feel like your humour and personality shines through more that way! Honestly though you do whatever works best for you, I imagine it’s probably easier to do it as a voiceover
Those almonds looked delicious! I need to try that salad. As for cookbook reviews, I generally prefer the voice over format, but I love how you did a couple of these with a live-action tasting at the end. That was great.
I have a little experience with plantains and I would never bake green plantains. Growing up I always fried green plantains, grilled black plantains and baked yellowish black ones. I think the recipe might turn out better if you just use a riper plantain. Hope that helps! Also I liked the voice over.
When you grilled it or bake it, it tends to be sweet and a little tender and soft I think if you want them to be savory and crunchy you’d have to fry it
For chips it is suppose to be green or what we call “pinto” which is in between green and ripe. Very ripe will never be hard chips. You need a mandoline and you can make them in the air fryer. It works. If you want them very crispy and exactly like the ones in the bags then just fry them.
Green plantain: Boiled or fried (for chips use mandolin or you can make tostones) Orangey with black marks: Fried, pan seared, or grilled (if you bake them spray the pan and the top or they’ll dry out) Black skin (very ripe): These are best for baking or pan seared with very little oil. You can also use plantain for an empanada dough.Ive used seasoned tvp for the filling and they can be baked or fried. If you want a less sweet dough mix half green and half ripe boiled plantain. It’s great as lasagna noodle substitute
This cookbook has always seemed meh to me too... good to know my suspicions were correct lol. I like both formats! I especially loved the in front of the camera format in the video where you and Eric tried Irish recipes. Have you seen Friday Night Supper Club’s channel? The food isn’t vegan on their channel, but I’d love to see those style videos from you where you’re trying fancier recipes for like a weekend night. Def reminds me of the St Patricks day video you guys did. Sorry for the heinously long comment lol. Thanks for another great video and hope you’re doing well!! Edit: I’m sure you already have a long list of books to review lol but if you are looking for thoughts, I’m curious about Vegan for Everybody from America’s Test Kitchen!
I love the voiceover format, however I don't mind either way bc I love all of your videos. Your videos and Instagram posts inspire me all the time to try new things! You're the best ❤️
I've been thinking about sharing some more paleo recipes for sure! I'll brainstorm some. I'm not sure if you follow Apples and Amandas or Miles from Healthy Crazy Cool, but they both did vegan keto challenges! Super interesting and lots of good ideas in both of those videos.
I love the in front of the camera style for cookbook reviews because I really appreciate the ‘first impression’ aspect of recipe testing. Another reason is because your personality shines through so much more and I feel like with voiceovers it’s much more formal (which I can still definitely appreciate.) On another note, I know your channel focuses heavily on cooking, but maybe throw in a regular book review every now and again? In some of your vlog style videos, I’ve seen a few book hauls and would definitely like to see more of what you’re reading... Psychology is such a big interest of mine too and I’m sure you have great recommendations!
I like both! I prefer the shots of food from a purely photographic level with the voiceover, but also nice to connect with you on a more personal level with the 'live' version, good to have a mix :)
Your Hot for Food review is my favourite video on your channel, I love the cookalong format and how casual and conversational it seemed, would love to see more like that!
I like both styles, but I prefer the HFF style. Thug Kitchen is an older cookbook when you think of it in comparison to Sweet Potato Soul, Edgy Veg and Hot for Food.
Hi Sarah! Just a tip from a friend that has cooked plantain forever, for chips the best is to use a very VERY green plantain which should be very hard and pretty hard to peel, and the chips should be thinner than that, should be as thin as potato chips so they can get crispy! I would fry them but baking with a bit of oil like spray oil would work great! Love your channel
I just found your channel. You inspire me to get mine up and going. You’re so down to ear and that’s what I like. So many others make me feel like I need to be made up and looking perfect. Food looks amazing as well.
Excellent Sarah! This cook book is actually what brought me into vegan cooking/eating. It let me know that vegan food is more than just a salad, haha. And so also that’s what brought me to your channel in a sense. It’s really cool to see you do a review of it and I agree it’s a good book for starters. With that being said I, like a lot of other commenters, like both the voice-over style and talking while cooking in front of the camera. I think that the voice-over style has a more professional feel to it, but when you talk to the camera as you cook it has a friendlier appeal to me. It makes me feel more welcomed to your world if that makes sense. So I think you should do a little of both.
