This technically isn’t the first time we’ve had *smart* walkers in this show as they were heavily teased & shown in the first season. In that season: we saw walkers legit sprint at a joggers pace, grab bricks & smash a window, turn doorknobs, climb fences, etc. This was originally Frank Darabont’s (original showrunner of TWD) vision of the walkers but due to his untimely exit, this was short-lived… until now! Also, TWD: World Beyond’s S2 post-credits scene actually features Dr. Jenner from S1 of TWD & mentions these variants he kept hearing about in Europe. There, we see a walker run & violently smash a door like crazy, thus, teasing that the walkers are now becoming more & more sentient. Honestly, I really like that they’re making the walkers more smarter as this makes them a whole new threat, possibly bigger than the main villains we’ve had on the show.

World Beyond explains French scientists that Dr. Jenner (first season of TWD) were talking & collaborating with created the virus and or the variant strain that makes them faster, stronger, smarter. It existed back in season 1 episodes 1 & 2 but Dr. Jenner thought it was only in France the variant that is.

Yeah these varient walkers existed already way back in season 1 . When rick & morgan were within morgan’s house with them & his son dwayne you saw rick looking outside through the door hole seing morgans dead wife trying to open the door . In Atlanta with rick and the group at that building they were in with merle being cuffed on the rooftop from down below walkers were trying to get inside the place with one walker you see holding a rock just bashing it up against the glass doors . And another episode with glenn and rick being covered in walker guts that you saw a few walkers had jumped the fence when they ended up having to run from the walkers in the rain.

"Smart" walkers were a thing early on in the show, including ones that were faster than normal. In season 1 they were climbing shit and using tools to break through windows, and Morgan's wife kept trying to use the doorknob. Oddly enough, this was one of the reasons Darabont and Kirkman had a falling out. Darabont wanted the walkers to be faster and smarter while Kirkman wanted the walkers we grew accustomed to. I get both sides. On one hand, fast and smarter walkers means that the show would've been ridiculous if our group was constantly winning their battles with the walkers instead of getting smashed. On the other hand, as we've come to find out, slow/dumb walkers can get repetitive and boring. By the time season 6 started, our group could handle 100s, if not 1000s, of walkers with little to no problem. I still feel like there should've always been variant walkers popping up here and there, where the bulk of the walkers were the normal ones but you'd get some that could sprint or use tools or climb walls.

The writing in this episode is IMMACULATE!!! And that hoard scene in the abandoned kingdom reminded me of the cemetery scene where Jesus was killed, SUPER HORRIFYING! I thought Jerry was done!

Chris you need to watch World Beyond to get the answer to that, kind of. Hello guys. If you guys remember we kind of seen a variant already, in S1 Morgan’s Walker wife seem as if she recognize the house and try to open the door. I think that’s where the intro with the door knob turning comes from, in the early seasons.

I feel like everyone forgot about season one the walkers climbing the fences when rick and Glenn were running from the walkers after the rain washed off the guts or that one walker using a rock to break the glass where Andrea, T-dog ,Rick, Glenn, merle, etc were all held up in when Rick first met them and of course Morgan's wife trying to turn the knob. But it does make sense that the people who saw that like Rick Glenn Morgan aren't here to say oh yea i've seen that. Or that not everyone in twd universe has noticed some walkers having this behavior because they either killed them right away or had to run from them.

Surprises me how so many fucking multiple RU-vid reactors to this episode Ive seen get so shocked at this like this is new . Can’t believe people forget these were in season 1 already and the show just decided to bring them back for some reason now after all them seasons . I know it was a long ass time ago but when it comes to mainly the show being about literally the walkers , you don’t forget serious shit like this that you’ve seen them do besides just try eating you .

I would have headed up into the mountains. Higher elevation would have made the terrain a bit more difficult for the walkers and snow with freezing temperatures would have froze the walkers making them easier to kill. Wildlife would have headed for the higher elevations too so they could escape the walkers. I lived at nearly the 4,000 feet level in Northern California and know what that terrain is like with lots of migrating birds, pheasants, deer, antelope and elk. Lots of lakes and rivers so plenty of fish. Wild horses are up there too so since I'm a horseback rider I could train them to ride so no need for gasoline. I can cut down trees, split wood and start a fire. I'm good if the zombie apocalypse comes.

Finally getting around to these reactions now that I finally got around to finishing the series. Man am I really sad to see it go :(. That finale I thought was really well done and made me really sad. Just would have been better if it was Rick, Carl, and Judith were there or at least Rick. Same with Michonne.

This is season 1 walkers, Morgan's wife (zombie) open the door and eat her son, when in the city some walker wlere holding rocks and try to break the mall glass window where Rick and his friend is in. where they chained Merle in the roof. Sorry for my bad english

@@QUAKEisCOMING Well, that was Frank Darabont's idea to make them thinking zombies. It wasn't original to Kirkman's zombies in the comics so they did retcon them to fit Kirkman's walkers after the 3rd episode going forward. Now, they are retconning the retcon by using Frank's interpretation of the zombies as a variant that has always existed even tho it didn't. But more like the French created the variant rather then them evolving or just being smart.
