The abundant crow population was a comic book easter egg. In the comics, wildlife such as birds and deer have over-populated because their human hunters have largely become walkers. There's a group in the comics that primarily hunt/eat wild game.

This episode felt like the old TWD. Im glad Angela Kang took over

This episode gave off some classic TWD vibes and damn, was it a good feeling. I'm just glad you guys have hung in there and are still reacting for us!

Did anyone else realize that a democratically-appointed Hilltop Leader re-introduced capital punishment to Gregory without a public trial by his peers? Maggie is scary.

I truly understood Maggie. This episode did a really good job setting up her path for this season. And honestly of any one these characters at this point I’d want to be behind her. I’d feel I’d have more of her mindset in this kind of apocalypse.

The Normies It wasn't Lucille that he held & killed the walkers, it was his on Medieval Bludgeoning Bat killing Walkers. Michonne has her Samurai Sword/Michonne Katana Sword & Lucille as her weapons of battle.

Right now the Hilltop is the most powerful community. The Sanctuary can't grow food. The Kingdom lost all of their fighters. Alexandria was burned to the ground. (Oceanside is too far away to really matter) The Hilltop has food, walls, weapons, and a strong leader with Maggie.

Surprised to see Daryl in a leadership position. I knew Ezekiel and Carol were getting together I called it in season 7. I'm surprised they killed Gregory this quick, Maggie's got some balls this season. Glad to see you all back reacting to the walking dead, love your reactions and discussions

I wanted to give some feedback on the reaction you guys did for TWD S9E1. This is one of the best post-episode discussions you guys have ever had and I hope The Walking Dead is able to continue delivering episodes that facilitate those conversations. Really in-depth sociopolitical post reaction discussions are rare and any show that can give the Normies something to chew on is dope. Chris especially I think shines in these types of discussions. The folks at the Sanctuary are making ethanol. They extracting it from the dead corn to use as fuel for their vehicles. They don't have enough of it though.

I never thought I'd say it but I only agree with Daryl. I was expecting to take Rick's side and think that Maggie and Daryl would be wrong but they both made good points. Maggie was right in saying that they are not obligated to help the Saviors or keep the Sanctuary going because they let them live when they had every right to kill them all. If Eugene didn't sabotage their guns then they would have killed them first. Daryl was right in saying that they should go back to the way things used to be with Rick's group because now they are all spread out and separated from each other doing their own thing. Because of Rick's plan of working with the Saviors everybody is short on resources because the Saviors are struggling. Rick is trying to honor Carl's dream but it's idealistic and could fail.

I liked this episode, really good start to the season. I like how Maggie is taking control buut have no idea how all of this will play out, excited to find out. Missed Suraj in the reaction!

Just got really curious (offtop) - how do you guys organize cleaning of your Normies HQ with all that stuff on the walls and shelves and since there's a lot of you?

Hilltop has all the leverage and therefore all the tangible power. Hell they have the blacksmith. Rick has the hearts and minds which goes a long way but only if bellies stay full. Maggie is right to make the moves she did in this episode but she needs a justice system. They really need to convert the Sanctuary to manufacturing. Fuel, blacksmithing, machine repair and conversion of machines to ethanol, lumber etc. They have the scientist and the tools as well as the organization to get things done. All they need is a blacksmith.

Did they put out a reaction to peaky blinders ? I thought I saw a thumbnail for a new episode but now it’s gone, I think.

This has probably been addressed before, but is Suraj only doing Lost now? Haven't seen him in many other reactions lately.

(Warning: very long. Was adding stuff as I listened to them discuss.) That shady meeting at the end of last season... I don't think that's 5 years from now, though. I think that will happen shortly after this episode. Daryl will definitely side with Maggie. But I doubt that Jesus will. Still hoping that he's only in that meeting to keep an eye on things. Daryl is right about the Sanctuary, though. I don't know if they'll succeed in making it a growing (I mean their own crops/food) community because it's a factory. It might be better if they try to look for a different location for the people there. So that they will be more self-sufficient and not rely so heavily on supply from Hilltop, Kingdom, and Alexandria. Add: Also like the idea of Chris to divide the people from Sanctuary among the other communities. (Just make sure not to put the problematic ones with Maggie. Haha.) Maggie isn't docile because she is still angry. She's resentful of Rick for not killing Negan and giving Glenn justice. The city idea is nice but that's for the future. I expect their capability atm is limited to occupying already built structures and adding little by little to those. They'll get there, as long they resist the temptation to fight amongst themselves. :P I would be fine with killing Negan if when they draft this charter thing, they all agree (or at least everybody votes on it, and the majority decides) that the appropriate punishment for Negan is death. That way Maggie can still get her justice. (Of course, if the majority votes for his continued imprisonment instead of death, that will still be hard for Maggie to accept.) But the important thing is: the decision comes from the majority, instead of just Rick and Michonne, or a handful of people. Which is why they really should make that charter thing a PRIORITY! Yeah, I disagree with how Maggie handled Gregory in this episode. I mean, I understand her, but I would have preferred they throw him in jail for now, worked on that charter, voted, and then applied the agreed upon appropriate punishment for him, and perhaps also Negan. It may seem like Gregory had it coming for such a long time now, but Maggie still rushed it, I think. The relationships. Hmm. That, I think, would be a source of inner conflict for the characters when this becomes a Maggie vs. Rick thing. Of course, there's Rick and Michonne. Daryl will likely side with Maggie. Ezekiel might side with Rick. Carol will be torn then -- will she side with Ezekiel therefore Rick, or Daryl therefore Maggie? Anne (Jadis) will be on Rick's side. Enid will be on Maggie's. Aaron might go with wherever Jesus is. Hehehe. :P Father Gabriel will be Rick's. Not sure about Eugene, Rosita, Tara, and... the girl from Oceanside(?) and everyone else...

This ep was okay. I think I bought into the hype on other twd channels. So I blame myself. But the dialogue was way better then it had been in years. Which makes me hopeful for the rest of the season.

Thank you Will!!!Yes Walking Dead has had its short comings...but television watchers who believe that every single story written has to be driven solely logic, and if deviated from that is automatically shitty writing, are retarded. Walking Dead is driven by the emotional aspect. The human experience. And on top of that in a broken down apocalyptic setting. Granted you need "logic" to keep a story grounded...but if the catalyst is the emotional side...you can't knock a story for that.
