Fun Fact: The ENTIRE cast at the time gathered around that open field to watch the Rick-Shane scene because they knew what would go down and wanted to see with their own eyes.

Lori gave Shane mixed signals at times, and she was wrong for that. What happened to Shane was his own fault. He led Rick out into that field and forced Rick to defend himself. Shane wanted Rick's family for himself, so he tried to kill him. Rick did what he had to do.

Whatever he does, im just not surprised anymore. Shane rams his head into the tree. "What the hell?!" 😂😂😂

The big question they had was "How many Lives were changed for the worst because Shane survived longer than his Comic counterpart." His Survival into Season 2 was the first major deviation from the comics and because of it, several characters failed to reach their comic storyarcs, but in the process, a few other characters got to shine in ways their comic counterparts couldnt. Shane's Survival is the reason the rest of the show works the way it does.

That scene with Rick and Shane has got to be one of the best scenes in the entirety of the series.

RIP Shane. Shane's biggest problem is himself. I've said several times that if he lived through the end, every cast would be dead

Shane’s problem was he couldn’t let anything go. Shane was out of control since the first time he had a taste of Lori. He wanted what he wanted or all hell was going to break loose, period! Lori is always being a hot mess🥵

The Funny thing is Shanes body language says he didn't want to do it. U can see it by the way he relaxed his eyelids and the way he lowered his eyebrows which is a sign of sadness and remorse showing that he doesn't want to kill Rick.Also as he dies holds ricks hand and touches ricks face as his last "sorry" his story is tragic his life was ruined by a terrible person named Lori RIP SHANE

This scene gets me every time You did this to us This is you not me Poor Rick had to kill his brother and best friend Carl’s first kill is Shane.

The night he killed Otis Shane left with his life but lost his soul

Lori sealed Shanes fate here. When she went to talk to him and the things she was saying, the look in Shanes eyes he had hope again. I love the acting at the end between Andrew Lincoln (Rick) and John Bernthal (Shane). How Shane does everything to convince himself that he needs to kill Rick but when Rick tries to reason with him you could see he didnt wanna do it but at this point it was too late. “Damn you for making me do this Shane” “This was you! Not me! You did this to us.” Gut wrenching lines, its horrible that it had to end this way but damn its good storytelling

Jon bernthal Shanes actor also confirmed Shane had mental health issues which is why he totally lost it this episode

Aside from the Lori stuff which definitely doesn’t do Shane any favors, he adjusted to the world to quickly. Majority of the decisions he made are what in reality most seasoned survivors of a zombie apocalypse would do, but even though he ultimately made those decisions at times with Otis for example he just couldn’t get over his actions and it lead to his unwinding. Shane is easily one of my favorite characters in the series not because you root for him, but because he’s just such an entertaining compelling character and Jon Bernthal brought him to life like nobody else could.

Still to this day both Dale’s death and Shane’s death were the first character deaths to hit me hard Dale being the voice of reason and the moral compass in the group and all about having humanity is what’s right for us as human beings one of my favourites and Shane Rick’s best friend and right hand man until Daryl stepped up when he had to put down Dale Shane was another one of my favourites yeah I understand why Shane had to die was never suppose to happen but he had to I can tell that deep down Rick didn’t wanna kill his best friend but he had to Shane lost his mind there was no way out of that I just wish that they coulda worked things out and made up but sadly Rick killing Shane had to happen I’m sure this is gonna have a big impact on the group especially Rick because deep down he cared for him to this day I still miss Dale and Shane.

Once again Lori being a trash mom and not watching Carl also the actor who plays Rick knows how to act out those emotional scenes perfectly

In my opinion Lori liked having 2 men loving her. She was a bored housewife before the outbreak. It was shown that she was picking fights with Rick for no reason. At the farm she was flitting around trying to be the queen bee and not watching Carl. Of course she sent Shane over the edge in this episode. At the beginning of this season, I really hated Shane. But after seeing how Lori manipulated him, I now see Shane as a tragic flawed character This season of TWD aired 2011 -2012. So, I have had time to think about it all. I hated Lori then and I still do. lol Last thing, how great of an actor is Andrew Lincoln the actor who plays Rick? He really should have won Emmies from his work on this show.

I don't believe Shane and Lori were messing around before the turn. They all knew each other since high school, maybe earlier. I just think they were always hanging out, Shane was like an uncle to Carl. He may have been wanting a life like Rick had and got the chance finally.

Actions speak louder then words. Fact.!!

I’ll never forgive Lori for constantly hating on Rick to Shane and hating on Shane to Rick, she did more than put them at odds she pushed them to the field metaphorically

I definitely think Shane was going to kill Rick he was just conflicted since Rick was his best friend since high school. The acting from Rick during that scene was insane the way he was crying afterwards was really believable. Now we got a herd of walkers coming for us it’s one thing after another with this show. One again I loved the montage at the end RIP Shane

When he was forgetting and letting go of Lori she just had to talk to him and the windmill and dragged him back to all the drama and that pushed him to his death…

Little Comic Comparison here Carl shooting Shane zombified was a similarity to the comic because in the comics Shane was already dead by this point in the comics Shane is killed pretty quickly just before they left the Atlanta camp Shane tries to kill Rick but then Carl shoots Shane dead alive saving Rick it’s great that TV Shane outlived his comic counterpart but it’s sad that we lost a great character I thought Jon Bernthal did a great job playing the role as Shane the actor went on to do different things I followed the actor after he was killed off here he went on to be in great movies and I loved him as Frank Castle/The Punisher in Marvel’s Netflix shows Daredevil Season 2 and The Punisher He mighta been an asshole at the end but deep down he’s still a human being that cared about Rick and the group i still miss Shane.

RIP shane. Shane probably would've left the group with andrea if it wasn't for lori telling him to stay, would've loved to see him reunite with rick with his own family.

"Actions take effort". Love that! You were on point about everything in this episode. The sad fact is that Shane was mentally unstable. I feel like Shane was friend and family to Rick and Lori. That's why it was so hard for Lori to just shut him down. But he sealed his fate the moment he killed Otis. That torment destroyed him. He was a ticking time bomb that no one but Dale was aware of.

A top 5 episode ever for me, the storytelling and acting was unmatched

Rip Shane and Randall gone to soon, I wished they didn’t kill them off, it was sad to see Shane and Randall get killed off, I like Andrea and Glenn talking, and Lori and Shane talking

Lori annoyed me so much this season. She kept using Glenn as an errand boy, went off to find Rick and got in an accident, never kept an eye on Carl, and kept going back to Shane. She's the most unlikable character I've ever seen in any show. 😂

Shane told Rick that he didn't look at Lori like that before, he was sincere and I believe him. I think Lori and Carl gave Shane a reason to survive, he needed them so that he wouldn't give up and had an excuse to do the terrible things he had to do, like kill Otis. I think Lori and Shane were trauma bonded. I get why Lori wanted to smooth things over with Shane, they were all moving into that house together, she felt bad for the whole situation and wanted to thank him for getting her through it and all that he has done for her and Carl. I'm glad she appreciated it BUT she should have held off on all of it until much, much later when Shane had moved on, maybe started a relationship with Andrea or someone else. It was too soon. People think Shane was 'built for this world' but actually this world destroyed him and his sanity.

Yep I agree with you, that last talk Lori had with Shane she should have left it alone, it gave him false hope. As I said before, Rick is not stupid and knew Shane was trying to lure him to the other side of the woods to try and kill/murder him. As you said, Daryl (DA-RILL) is a tracker and wasn't born yesterday and as he said to Shane at the beginning of their search for Randel/Randall "you expect me to believe he had the drop on you", our man Daryl is NOT stupid and could see what happened with those tracks in the woods and the blood on the tree etc.

If you pay attention to his verbiage in that scene Shane clearly just wanted to die at this point and baited Rick into killing him Jon Bernthal even wanted a reveal that Shane’s gun was empty the whole time.

No, I still don't blame Lori. Her talking to Shane IMO was just in a short version is everyone needs to try and get along. I don't think she knew how far gone Shane is. Whether she spoke to Shane or not. He would have tried to kill him

As much as Shane did my head in I was still gutted he had to die! And he did have to die, he was a loose cannon that only cared about Lori & Carl and that’s dangerous for the group! Jon Bernthal (Shane actor) was amazing! And Shane was just to crazy for this world and far before his time…and as for Andrew Lincoln (Rick actor) he is probably the best most believable actor I’ve ever witnessed! End of the Shane & Rick era and I’m sad about it!

I still disagree that Lori was playing both Rick and Shane. I saw Lori going to Shane to talk to him as just her trying to make peace for the group. She has no romantic feelings for him by this point, if Shane misreads the things she said thats on him, not her. People really think they are just supposed to be in the same group forever and just not talk to each other? The only one responsible for Shane and his actions, is Shane.
