Merle took out quite a few 'of the Gov's men. Norman Reedus, the actor who play Daryl, said that he threw his shoulder out stabbing Merle in that last scene. Daryl and Merle grew up in terrible circumstances. I think that the only person that Merle loved was Daryl.

Merle started the show being nothing but a racist jerk. The governor takes him in and uses them as a Henchman. Sending him to deliver Michonne kinda like taking out two problems. He knew the govern wanted Michonne, but he also knew the governor would want to kill Merle. Hershel and Daryl were really instrumental and changing everything for Michonne. When Michonne and then the custody of Merle, she talked to him like a human being. She overlooked the racism and even him trying to kill her by the Governor’s order. She overlooked the bitterness that she really had for him, and she tapped in into something that no one else tapped into, Merle’s morality. Yes, he wanted his baby brother safe , but he wanted everyone at the prison safe because of Daryl. He went and got drunk because he knew this was his last ride. He knew that he would be caught and killed, that’s why he told Michonne to go back to the prison and get ready for what’s next. Merle in the end, was the antihero kinda , sacrificing himself for everyone. I do believe Merle redeemed himself. Think back to season s1 ep5, when Carol had to end Ed before reanimation, that was brutal as well. I think it was a kind of a love-hate situation that people have. I think that’s one of the many reasons why this show works as well as it does, because it taps into real feelings real emotions, but it also shows walkers. The walkers are the non-fiction part that makes the show good to watch, but the true feelings that people feel every single day is how this show really works and was so successful.

Look in Rick’s defence as well his main goal in life at the moment is to keep his kids safe. You could tell deep down he knew that the Governor would not stick to his word but I guess he had to consider it for the safety of the whole group but especially Carl & Judith. He was never going to do it! RIP Merle he was a bad man at times but he redeemed himself in the end I guess 🤷🏽‍♀️

Great insights, as always. I think Michonne shamed Merle and Carol gave him the push he needed to make a change, but he realized it was too late for him and Daryl was just coming into his own. It was his last chance to be the big brother Daryl REALLY needed. Step aside and let him grow into his potential.
@sallyatticum
@sallyatticum 2 дня назад
Mind you, I am not saying that was his best and only course. He might have been able to go back and make a change and fit in with the group, but, in his mind, he was holding Daryl back and he needed to let him go and do the right thing, which, to him, was try to take out the governor, a likely "suicide mission."

I think Rick knew all along that handing over Michonne wouldn't change anything. He said as much to Hershel. Still, there was the part of him that was desperate to keep the group safe, especially his children. Maybe it was partly the loss of Lori, but I always wondered how many times Shane's words rang in his ears. "I don't think you can keep them safe". He kept telling himself that he'd do whatever it took to keep his children safe and that's how he justified his decision. But, this is the same Rick that risked going back to Atlanta to free a man he handcuffed to a roof. A man he didn't even like. His original decision, while disappointing, never made me lose respect for him because I understood his thought process, but I'm glad he didn't go through with it. Merle always told Daryl that nobody would ever love him but ol' Merle. It was purely manipulation to keep Daryl around and maybe he thought he owed him for taking off when Daryl was still a kid. Merle hated Rick and Glenn because of the rooftop incident but I think the few days he was at the prison made him realize that they weren't bad people and they truly do care for and respect Daryl. Michonne's words to him solidified that. He knew his plan was a suicide mission but he was okay with that. Saving the group meant they'd be around for Daryl and he wanted his little brother to have the family they never had growing up. Merle was a jerk at best, a flat-out asshole at worst, but he was a character you loved to hate. #ripmerle

RIP Merle. As hot headed and occasionally racist as he was he was an extremely capable fighter. He took down like 5 or more of the governors men and tried to buy our group time. Seeing Daryl break down like that was so hard to watch Daryl is always quiet and doesn’t show much emotion. Side note you forgot to do the RIP tribute for Merle at the end.

Such an emotional episode. I think Rick was scared & for a moment, thinking maybe handing her over would keep Judith & Carl safe, but then came to his senses, knowing he could never live with himself if he actually went through with it. Merle's decisions & his own choices got him killed, not Rick. He thought if he turned her over, he would be accepted by Rick's group. But it was so good to see Merle redeem himself. He gave Rick's group a chance, by taking out some of the Govs men & gave them more time to get ready. Seeing Daryl cry always gets me in the feels. ❤

I ain’t gonna beg I ain’t begging you were not only Merle’s last words but he also said that back in Season 1 when he was all alone on the rooftop in Atlanta He isn’t talking to the Governor in his last moments He’s talking to the same person he was talking to back on the rooftop God He sees all of this (being handcuffed to the roof being killed by the Governor) as punishment for the things he’s done but he has never once begged for God’s forgiveness and he wouldn’t even do it in his final moments Very touching moments Merle Dixon was truly one of the most complex characters in TWD history He will be missed RIP

I always really liked this episode Glenn getting Hershel’s blessing to wife Maggie I like how he didn’t really give a speech to her and everything He just stuck the ring in her hand I wonder what it like to go ring shopping now Like what if it was a shitty ring Do you just go around looking for female walkers until you find the ring you desire or ? Rick finally realizes that he can no longer It was fine when y’all we’re still learning how to survive but now y’all know how #TeamPrison should be a group effort when it comes to their survival. You can tell Rick was feeling ashamed of his decision of giving up Michonne If Merle of all people thinks you cold asf for that then that’s when you should re-evaluate your life and decisions Him having to tell everyone what he’d done you could tell he felt the shame Everyone was shocked at what he did Carl looked great perhaps things can get better from here on out. We definitely saw a different side to Merle We know he loved his brother That’s all he’d talked about since his return We find out just how abusive his father was and knowing he left home young so he wouldn’t kill him (sadly that abuse turned towards Daryl as a result) In and out of jail A man who knows his bible A product of his unfortunate environment In this episode his redemption that you realize that he truly has a heart From his conversation with Rick to his conversation with Michonne we see that he does want to be a good guy he just never been given the chance Now with his brother wanting to believe in him standing by the side of good he makes a decision the right decision and freed Michonne He then took on his redemption by taking on the suicide mission against the Governor R.I.P. He will surely be missed with His methhead problematic ass. Shoutout to Michonne for how she handled Merle and her whole situation Wait shout out to them badass kills she made while tied up Okay back to Michonne and Merle She was hella calm the whole situation What’s so interesting is that she isn’t seen as much of a talker She only really talks when it’s important to Almost as if everything she has has some sort of purpose I think she could of found a way to get her sword back kill Merle and escaped back to the prison She’s crafty like that But she didn’t She stayed calm and used her words Got into his mind and reached out to the good in him and it worked some banter psychology some compassion Who would’ve thought that these two of all people would be able to have a genuine and civil conversation with each other if Merle had survived I think they could have actually ended up being friends. Fun Fact: Daryl’s cry face ended up becoming a meme being compared to the infamous cry face from Dawson’s Creek lol. Really looking forward to the finale so Is this truly the end of The Ricktatorship Will The Governor and Rick see eye to eye Stay Tuned.

Merle letting Michonne go and then going after the Governor was just his way of trying to give Daryl the best possible odds of surviving. In the end, Merle was just trying to look after his little brother. Merle was many things, but in the end, he went out with guns blazing. RIP Merle.

This is one of my favorite episodes of the series...Merle's death is so sad, he really stepped up. He had a lot of good in him, he didn't even kill anyone until he was with the Governor. He definitely did some atrocious shit, but he was redeemed. And no, I definitely don't blame Rick for Merle's death, I don't think anyone sees it that way.

About Rick. I believe it was a cowardly and selfish decision to ask Merle to do his dirty work. All because he couldn't look Michonne in the eye and take her himself. And it looks like he didn't even tell Darryl. Merle is desperate to be accepted so he can be with his brother. There is no way Darryl would have let his brother go alone. But if you are willing to sacrifice one of us then who is next? It looks like you are more interested in protecting YOUR family.

I won't defend Rick's initial decision to hand Michonne over to the Governor (beside the fact that I think it was wildly out-of-character for him to do so), but Rick didn't get Merle killed. Merle got Merle killed. Rick may have asked Merle to deliver Michonne to the Governor (which was very wrong), but Merle was the one who knew exactly what the Governor was and would probably do to her, and he took her anyway. Rick didn't force him to do it. Merle could have said no. Anyway, great reaction. Keep them coming. 🙂

Merle was a human being that made bad decisions. He needed what Darryl found. He needed acceptance and love. I believe he could have fit in if given a chance. I believe Carol would have been the first to give him that. He and Darryl clearly come from an abusive home . She would have that connection with them because of her abusive husband. Merle letting Michonne go makes me cry every time because I know what's next. The acter nailed that role.

Rick is tired of losing people. Remember in that conversation with Hershel about Michonne. That "What If" was weighing on him. "What if he really DOES leave us alone if we give him Michonne?". He's tired. He's doesn't want to go to war because he knows that means he's going to lose more people. So that "What If" weighs more and more. He knows Woodbury has the numbers and probably even more weapons. Rick's instincts was that The Governor was lying him about the deal, but the more the offer sat in his mind, the more appealing and hopeful he became towards it. The Governor gave him slight hope of a chance, which was exactly what The Governor wanted... Merle's, "I can't go back" I think is more about he can't move like he hasn't done the things he's done since he'd. He felt that weight would always be there and that he could never be one of them (Team Prision). He doesn't believe that he can be what his brother wants him to be... This is honestly one of my favorite Michonne episodes. Everyone at this point knows how badass Michonne is as a fighter. So this perdicament becomes how Michonne can get out of this when you take away her ability to fight physically. We see it here woth Merle. This is the most we have ever seen Michonne talk the whole season. And yes, you're exactly right. Michonne is very observant. She understands people. She was able to get away, not by fighting physically, but with just using her words. She was the prisoner, bound and weaponless, but she ended up gaining more control of the situation than Merle just by talking to the point that this racist, arrogant asshole willingly let her go and ended up sacrficing himself as a way to redeem himself and give them a chance. She's more than just some silent badass, sword, fighting lady. She's highly intelligent, knows how to her use efficently, and she knows people...

I think Merle is like many of us. We all have a little good and a little bad but tends feed the bad guy in him more than the good. And when he's around bad, he's gonna be more bad. He'd gotten away from Woodbury for a couple days or so and was starting to shift from bad to less bad. So he decided to die doing something decent. Doesn't change the bad stuff he did to Glenn or whoever. Just means he was able to let the good guy out for a bit.

TBH I think you and other reactors and pretty much most fans are unfair to Andrea in S3. Even Michonne is unfair to Andrea because she never EXPLAINED all her reasons for suspecting Woodbury. Michonne is a very poor communicator for someone who cares about people whereas Andrea is a would-be rational left-brained type of person - she doesn't work off of instinct is what I'm saying. So I understand why she wouldn't want to just leave Woodbury when she got there - from her point of view, Michonne was acting crazy even though we as the audience know that Michonne's instincts were correct. The unfairness also extends to Rick who is being slightly irrational and paranoid for obvious reasons.

I like Michonne but she was way too stand offish. Its one thing to be suspicious of a stranger but she was also way too cold with Andrea instead of explaining things and communicating: Life is more than just good intentions. If you care for someone, you can't be pissed off if you act in a questionable manner and your homie don't understand you and you go off without explaining - especially not with a friend.
