www.judynorton.com Instagram - officialjudynorton The Walton kitchen was a centerpiece of each episode. We laughed, cried, struggled and triumphed over the hundreds of hours spent filming in this location.
Here is a sneak peek - in 2 parts - behind the scenes of The Walton kitchen scenes. How we filmed them. Who kept everyone in stitches. Who couldn't stop laughing. What got us in trouble. And what about ALL that FOOD?

They say the kitchen is the heart of the house... I feel like that was true for The Waltons. What do you think?
@Catwoman12nc
@Catwoman12nc 3 года назад
Absolutely! There was always someone in the kitchen: cooking, cleaning, sitting at the table drinking coffee and talking, passing through to go out the back door. I always loved the sound of the front screen door creaking as it opened, such an authentic sound!

I agree! I was given the Waltons The Complete Collection for Christmas last year and I’ve watched every single episode including the movies. I Grew up watching this wonderful series and have fond memories of my own family members watching along with me. They are no longer here and it brings a comfort to me when I watch the Waltons. Thank you for the interesting look behind the scenes!

For many people, I think that's true, but maybe more so in the good old days. I'm not sure how many families actually even eat together in kitchens. It seemed to start changing as early as the 60s. That said, for families who can, I agree that it is the heart of the house. I hear a lot of chefs, for instance, talk about memories of Mom, Dad, or their grandparents where they watched and learned their craft beginning with childhood. Those are such positive memories.

@@judynorton2598 I did not grow up in a loving family, it was very dysfunctional for me, and there was (& still is) much pain from those days. Some with a similar experience would eschew such depictions, or reality of the beauty of a loving, close family, for whatever reason; I celebrate, revere, and find comfort in these families, in fiction or reality. I only watched a few episodes of the Walton's in the 70s, my parents must have put other shows on, aware of the drastic contrast from our family, lol. I wish I had been able to watch it then, I might have learned family as a value, and kept my own together as an adult, but I failed, with no model or values of that from childhood. However, this show now gives me comfort and solace, a way to live in & escape to that reality, albeit from the outside looking in. I'm sure there are many with similar backgrounds as me, who love this show, now that we get to see it. Your Legacy, all of you who brought this show to the world, for what it brings to the world, is, and will be, TIMELESS, so thank you all for Then, & you, Judy, for this channel, Now!

I was raised so much like the early years of this show so it means the world to me. Things are 200% different now! I grew up butcherIng chickens and pigs and steers and squirrels and rabbits and frogs! We smoked hams, bacon and pork chops. We made home made lye soap, rendered lard and made sorghum molasses from the can we grew.... Not the "blackstrap molasses" Maude talks about in the episode "The Attack" when there was no sugar to be had in the U.S. during the war. I still cook everything from "scratch". Up till arthritis hit a few years back I still sewed most of my own clothes and grew monstrous gardens. Thanks for the memories of my wonderful childhood in a very rural area of farms. We were poor as church mice but we did not know it because all of our school mates were the same. Some much more poor than we were. My high school graduating class had only 43 and most of those were kids from the little town the school was in.

How did I miss this Behind The Scenes? The breakfast/lunch/dinner scenes are and always have been my favorite. So realistic and true to life. big I grew up with 5 siblings during a period where most of my peers had one sibling, if any. meal time in a large family can be fun, miserable, chaotic, challenging, heartwarming.... everything portrayed on The Waltons. Sounds like shooting these scenes was challenging for everyone, more challenging than sharing lunch with 5 younger brothers and sisters. thanks so much, Judy.

The Walton's was if they just took a camera and filmed a family doing life. It was that natural. Whoever chose the original cast did an impeccable job. While you wish everyone could remain-the early episodes pull you in close. I have come away from the Waltons having actually written down profound truth. There were episodes that had me crying very hard. Absolutely loved the character of Sheriff Bridges. Thank you, Judy, this does seem to bring some sanity to the insanity we're living. Not to mention watching the Waltons over and over again if necessary...to help cope with this life that seems to be spinning out of control if it weren't for deep Faith in God. Your sharing behind the scenes helps those of us that only wish (sometimes) there could be a "take 2" in this Life. Thank you!

Hi Judy, I really enjoy listening to your behind the scene stories on making the Waltons. One of my favorite shows was were Johnboy and Blue (the mule) competed against the Thoroughbred and his buddy for the Trophy that Grandpa had won years before.

just found your page. Besides being a great show of quality, it brings back many fond memories of watching The Waltons with my Grandmother. She was from southern WVa, and was Oliva's age during the Depression, so it meant a lot to her.Thank you and the whole cast for a great show and many years of continuing enjoyment.

Interesting, about Michael's not eating. Now that you've mentioned it I don't remember seeing her eat.

Interesting what you say about the food not really being edible.... ....I always knew alot of the eating scenes may have been difficult for you all. But somehow in the home coming episode , you all returned from snowy outdoors .. ....to delve into grandmas stew ..... and actually looked like you all enjoyed it ! How how i envied you all. Lol. But you are right , mama michael did not touch a drop ....😄😄😄 💚💚💚💚💚💚

I think some shows do not show dinner scenes like the older shows used to. Blue Bloods is one that does and I’ve heard them talk moving the food around the plate, but barely eating. They also eat with plastic cutlery because the real was too loud. Very interesting, Judy. Thank you!

These insights continue to be just wonderful. Hope there will be many more to come. We hadn't noticed that about Michael and her not eating anything. We will all be scrutinising the kitchen scenes from now on but come to think of it I can't recall her eating anything just like you say. How very shrewd of her hahaha! We are just loving these videos Judy...thank-you so much for doing them ❤️💚💛

Judy, The episode where Richard Thomas leaves the show couldn't have just been acting. The emotions seemed very real. The last scene between Richard and Ralph was amazing.

I remember in the Airmail episode grandma was making spaghetti and a huge salad. That is the first and only time I saw something other than country American type food.

When my brother, niece and I went to Schuyler, VA and we toured the museum in the old school house. I thought the room made up to look like the kitchen matched the best.
