Excellent. Many interesting thoughts. My friend recommend it constantly as I do. Trust that many people would love to get out of their comfort zones and read something that is different and could potentially be special for them. That book is just great. While I read it, it cemented my opinion that Bakker is truly special and unique. Such powerful writing. Such visions, such thought provoking themes and still such an epic story. Incredible stuff. There are so many great moments I can think of staight out of my mind. Achamian's escape and release of vengeance. Mind blowing prose in that scene. The circumfix and the surreal train of Kellhus thoughts. His change after that and what that might implies. The battles. The Inrithi descending on their enemies. The fervor. The march through the Caraskand desert. Such darkness and despair. The moments at the camp. Somehow so warm and cosy. Like Jesus and his students. Damn what a great book, series and writer. I really hope you keep up liking it. It is such a powerful, philosophical, meta, epic and nightmarish ride at the same time. P.S. people say Bakker has no humor. I disagree. Its just not the usual witty bantering that is trending in modern fantasy. His humor is cynical and situational. Its about the ironies and misconceptions of life

All those scenes you mentioned were amazing! He paints an incredibly vivid imagery. Achamian's rage was so palpable, my heart was beating so fast while reading it. So far, I still haven't encountered anything that hasn't worked for me. I liked and enjoyed every aspect of the story Bakker is trying to tell. It feels like a lot of the things I love in fantasy was compiled into this narrative.

Nothing else comes close after reading Bakker. Gird yourself for the thousandfold reading slump that follows.

I know! 😭 I'm trying to read stuff in between books, and I've already DNF'd 3 within the first chapter.

That's what the Judging Eye is for. I reread some Black Company after TUC which did the trick.

Bakker takes a lot from Dune and the Crusades. Yes, they really did catapult diseased people and animals, living or dead, into cities. But interesting thoughts on several of the characters.

This is my favorite book in the series(PON). The last part of this book was the darkest ish I have ever read!!! I love the philosophical aspects of Bakker's writing so much. I'm trying to reread this series ASAP. Another great review my man. Cheers.

Yes! That last part just sticks with you. I've never read a book with this much philosophical depth set inside such a richly detailed fantasy world. Looking forward to hear your thoughts on the reread.

When I read The Warrior Prophet, I thought this is Bakker's masterpiece he'll never top it; however, The White Luck Warrior, The Great Ordeal, and The Unholy Consult were on another level for me. But be warned, if you think these books are dark, Bakker really channels some horror in the finale two books of The Second Apocalypse. Makes PoN seem like Sanderson level of darkness in comparison.

Good to hear! Warrior Prophet is my current favorite, but I’m so excited for what’s to come.

‘Serwe being a prop’. You hit the nail on the head without even knowing it. You shouldn’t read Serwe as a character; she is the tool Kellhus uses to control Cnaiur. Every character in the entire series is a prop for kellhus. The ones who ‘know’ what kellhus is doing and believe they have there own ‘free will’ are the ones most deceived. If only they knew their own Darkness that comes before…
