I remember standing in the goblin hut in Lumbridge for hours picking up the five coin loot and the iron daggers, then walking up to the sword shop in Varrock to sell my hard-fought loot to get my cash stack up to 1000 coins. Every once in a while I’ll go into that shop to look at the swords, it brings back all the memories. That shop window is iconic!
I started playing Runescape in June of 2004. My friend came over and said he wanted to show me a game on my computer. Ever since I've been hooked. By far the best game I've ever played.
I was in second grade. Probably September 2004, when some 4th and fifth grader kids in the after school program told me about it. I don’t play anymore, but I’ll never forget! 🎉
Same for me except I found it on Miniclip. I thought it would just be another little weekly game or whatever then I’d drop it and see what else is out there. Little did I know that it would absolutely blow me away and hook me. And here I am 20 years later.
I sometimes think back to when I first started and the joy it brought me crafting my own gear. I recall smelting my own bronze bars and making my own gear. There isn't a much smaller upgrade than making your own bronze med helm, but the fact I made it myself made 7 year old me very happy.
same, the whole process from mining to equipping was super satisfying to me, especially when whatever I was making required multiple ingredients, like coal and iron for steel or everything required for baking stuff
I love the montage of all the before/after pictures. I hardly remember what any of them looked like, but it's why there are so many seemingly pointless walls everywhere, many of which were used as temporary world borders. I remember being so curious what'd be past the broken Canifis bridge and northern Seers bridges. They're even doing it to this day with the remaining sections of Varlamore!
Favourite memory to this day is being the first one in my class to complete Dragon Slayer and everyone who also played treating me like I was the best player in existence, giving people tips for them to complete it themselves, even though I used a quest guide and got lucky af during the fight haha
same i remember my friend being the first and rooting me on. even tho i was a mage boy mostly i still did it. and my sis who had like 70s in stats cleared it without a sweat we then got member and headed for this new content called barrows... grinded every night after school just to get armour sets. i had guthan/ahrim. my sis dharok/verac and my bestie had kharil/torag. felt like absolute units :D
Woooo a Colonello like vid, yeah I'd love to see another one for 2005. Child memory... probably going to the library with my brother and taking turns playing the game 😅. There was 30 min blocks so we'd have to wait constantly to use the computer again, but we spent hours accomplishing nothing in osrs
Man I remember hearing from this kid Travis talking about runescape, myself being a gaming kid was so intrigued and begged my mum. Together we looked up "roomscape" and couldn't find it. had to ask the kid how to spell it when i saw him next.
@MeanBeanComedy I've always heard that decade be referred to as "the noughties", but both of those names sound weird to me so I just call them the 2000s xD
Just to be clear, this isn't a private server. If anyone would like to take a trip down memory lane, use this link and then change the cache to any of the year 2004, or any other year you'd like: osrs.world/
What a nostalgia trip, thanks for making this vid - would love to see it continue to later years! I have vivid memories of getting up in the wee hours of the morning, before my parents got up, and turning on the dial-up internet to play RS2. I spent so many hours fishing lobsters in Karamja, using them to train on lesser demons in the volcano, then repeating the cycle. Remember being psyched when I made enough gp to afford full addy (g).
Great Video! I'd love a video like this for Classic as well. 2003 in particular has one of the most obscure little glitches. When they released the murder mystery quest and the Sinclair mansion, they accidentally tagged that area as free players. Meaning in just that little square you could log into a free to play server. You couldn't do much since member features were still locked, but it was really cool nonetheless.
I was actively playing the game during this year and I remember trying out all of the updates when they first came out. This was a wonderful walk down memory lane. My favorite memory of that year is for Priest in Peril. So many people were in the room trying to kill the guardian dog that you couldn't see the dog at all. I actually had no idea what he looked like for years after completing the quest. People were also selling buckets, ropes, etc. at the quest area for super high prices to save a walk.
I would definitely enjoy videos going over the evolution of Runescape. My favorite memory as a kid is seeing someone use the prayer book sermons for the first time (finally got membership) and thinking that was the coolest thing ever, so I began my quest to get one.
I love these videos so much. Over the years I've actually forgot what year I started playing. This video made me realize it was indeed right after rs2 was released in 2004. This brought back so many fond memories. 2005 video pleaseeee
@@MeanBeanComedy lost my original account:( dumb kid me let my cousin have it when I took a 'break' and managed to get it peemabanned. Typical rs situation.
my favourite moment by far was the dagganoths and kalphite queen. for both our band of friends tackled it. i was the mage. my sister was our brute warrior and my best friend was a bit of an archer/hybrid. we loved to tackle these bosses as a group. and i remember my sister training day and night to get 80s in mellee. but still dying super fast to kalph :( we did have a lot of fun tho. really once we got our barrow sets. which at a time was best in slot and we felt like gods.
The bridge leading to the Wizard's Tower! The bridge used to have a right turn before leading to the tower itself, and eventually was changed to just a straight bridge. Not sure why they had initially decided to go for that design but it's one of those things I found interesting before it got changed.
I really do hope theres a 2005 version! My favorite memory would have to be as a kid getting my first set of saradomin rune armour. Felt so cool in it even tho i got lured a week later
I remember this version of RuneScape wasn't able to try the beta for rs2 but I remember making a new account for rs2 once it released. Makes me sad that RuneScape classic shut down.
I remember being so hype with my new d halberd and using it on blue dragons in Yanielle. The gp/hr was horrendous in retrospect, but I didn't have ava's yet (if it even existed) so using a ranged weapon was a pain in the ass to pick up all those arrows.
Favorite memory was been led to Varrock for the first time by a friend. I was like 43 combat off goblins, but had never gone further due to dying at a low level and having another friend who just chilled and fished by the bridge.
The dragon halberd was my favourite weapon for several years after it came out lol, I did a lot of slayer with it. Slow, yes, but using a safespot meant not using food, and that was one of my highest priorities back then for some reason.
weird, i cant remember the best time i had playing runescape. but i remember dying with full zamorak armour, dying in the wildy the first time, and getting scammed the first time. Actually one time that is popping in my head as i write this is when i got level 70 atk. It was after construction came out, fought someone in their poh fighting ring until i got the level and we celebrated. (even tho i had nowhere near enough money to buy the whip) another good time is when my irl buddy who got me into the game traded me an addy sword and mithril armour in order to do melzars maze and finish dragon slayer hahah
Favorite childhood memory of RS: Looking up to my clan leaders who had the newest and greatest gear at the time which was guthans and a whip. I'm old enough to remember when a lot of these updates from 2004 released. Please release a 2005 version.
Loved the vid! Too bad there's no way to get these old graphics. I'm making a 2007 series on my channel but would love to do a 2004 series if it existed lol
I started playing either at the end of 2004, or 2005, but I was f2p for years. I had no idea so much of this iconic stuff in the game was so new when I started playing.
The year i started playing 😢. Inefficiencyscape was the law of the land, we had no clue how to play the game lol. Sals realm was king. I remember feeling like a stud fighting to the death against a guard with a backpack full of chicken.
Favourite childhood memory was probably receiving a free bronze mace and 11 cake paper (noted cakes) from a stranger. I felt like a boss with my spiky stick! Great video Rargh! :DD
My favorite memory was the house parties when construction dropped and castle wars being what we did for fun! My worst were the times I got griefed like in the witches wizard tower, fighting the witch at the top, someone kept closing the door and wouldnt let me out =) and I died haha Or the time I fell for the money stack lying in level 1 wilderness and got frozen and pkd :D
'Favourite' is maybe not the right word, but one thing I've always remembered is my struggle with the monkey madness sliding puzzle. That was a real struggle back in the day for me.
as a kid I used to kill hellhounds in taverley dungeon for hard clues. with msb, iron arrows, sometimes even bronze when money was tight.. and no 70 agility for the shortcut of course. Simpler times
castle wars, varrock east pking, exploring and not caring about xp rates, going to the grandparents house when my parents would kick me off for playing too long!
I kinda liked the impromptu GE that was setup in fally. I remember going on the forums and trying to sell bowstring and unidentified herbs to make my money. It took a long time but seeing all the players there spamming selling and buying messages felt like I was in the New York Stock Exchange. I'll never forget that.
@Rargh I have a great idea for a video. Kill 30 of each slayer monster and then kill 10x 2 Random bosses. The more gold you make, the more spins you give to the opponent! For each 20K made the opponent gets 1 spin.
For me probably the 2005 X-mas event where there was a BIG christmas tree in varrock square, the scarfs, the marionettes, the tree decoration. That's what i called a TRUE xmas event and the it was long than most quests even. Especially as a 9-10year old child
Favorite memory was near the release of barrows when I walked into the slayer tower to show off to my friend what membership looked like and we walked in on a lure or something over at abby specs and some dude died for dh and a glory and stuff (I was a total noob rocking like addy armor lol) and it was like wildy because the dh helm I looted was worth like 3m at the time, but I got scammed in v west ... some dude traded me his whole bank for it which was worth like 400k because he knew what it was and I didn't ... I was too much of a noob and the bank invy he offered looked good enough to me lol ... but ya ... Also second favorite memory was when I got a robin from a clue and sold it for full dh when that was at 3.6m years later (did that trade in W2 Fally park) ... unfortunately I got hacked by a friend in our circle weeks later. Also pking with friends with a landline with 3-way calling pre-teamspeak but post dialup lmao ...the one time I forgot to heal and attacked a dude with no armor and got kicked for an 8 and died in one hit ... because you had to open the stat menu to see your hp ... died for d scim because I didn't have protect item on ... biggest fail ever. Pretty much everything before I lost my bank gambling with hot/cold was awesome. Ironman mode saved me from scams and gambling lmao
Please do 2005 as well. That's when I started playing. Best memories from the years that followed are flax picking, seeing people die to randoms in catberby, playing castle wars badly and mining iron at Varrock south east bank, thinking it was extremely cool I could mine iron, finally!
this video is amazing. How did you mix the 2004 graphics with the updated expansions with the modern free camera angles. So many interesting details, I love how 2004 rs looked its cool to see the differences side by side. Please more vids like this
Kinda nutty to think just how much of the map we take for granted just didn't exist up until then. 04-05 really was a crazy amount of updates Edit: favourite old rs memory! I used to spend aaaaages at the Falador farm, training up cooking by baking potatoes and churning my own butter and cheese to put on em. I dunno why I had so much fun with that as a kid, but I was so proud of my progress with them.
