ok you had a HEMTT hauling a hot tub but have you ever seen a hemtt bed as a swimming pool? when I was in the desert during 1st gulf war 1991 (desert storm) we actually had a waterproof tarp spread over the bed of the hemtt and filled it with water now it wasn't perfect or deep or held water very long. but, it was very refreshing, funny and it broke up the boredom of sitting out in a big sand box for 3 months
HEMTT tip. DO NOT put the transmission in gear with the high idle on. Had my M984A1 wrecker jump about 8 feet forward and then then die. The exhaust elbow from the the manifold up to the turbo was split open like a gutted fish. Got it started and limped back to the motorpool. Had to wait a few days for parts to fix it. Old Detroit was a beast. Sounded like you were going 100 miles an hour when you were barely moving. Damn I miss my HEMTT.
Oh yeah I drove mine in Korea the thing was so easy to drive I used 1 finger at times I Called it 10 ton beast or something like that? It's been awhile 2008 so ? So fun to drive and I took a PLS for a spin once that was nice! The steering wheel was like a car size! Lol still An awesome drive !
@@Nittygrittyguy somewhere on Cp. Humphreys there is a HEMTT fueler that will do about 80 mph. I had to reset the injection rack on one. I set it to civilian specs and not detuned military specs. I was 520th Maintenance 04-05.
Well that should be obvious!!! Pto engages only when in neutral. Get a pro when you don't know. Pretending to know will get someone seriously hurt. Too many stupid people doing what they shouldn't be doing smfh
That's a badass crane, never seen one fold up like that and I work on material cranes all day. Great content (throw a Load Hold Valve inline with the rotation cylinders/motor and it shouldn't turn freely on you)
Was at first duty station. Camp, Howze .Korea . When 28.900 miles without accident in Korea with the 985 HEMTT . They are a beast of strength and performance. Word of caution the hoist on the crane is run by a small 3/8" line. Do not break that line with your load it will drop emediately! Add an additional safety cage on it! Other than that keep your boom at a higher level . You risk bending the boom ! Seen it happen! So be careful and God bless you! Thank you for bringing back the memories with that vehicle!
It fits so well that you should just hook it up and keep it in the bed of the truck. A traveling hot tub would be amazing. Just think of those multi day recoveries and having a hot tub.
Gosh I miss driving one of those! I drove the PLS version of that truck, and it was the highlight of my Army career.....definitely the thing I miss the most from my time in service. What a joy to watch.
All you’d need to do to fix that crane from turning when you don’t want it to is instal a different control valve. Some come with a check ball so that when you push/pull the lever, you need to give it some ooomph and it’ll kindof lock in place. Until moved again and it’ll spring back. There’s toooons of different kinds of control valves to choose from with all kinds of different positions and what not though
Nice to see Diesel Dave sporting that Welderup T-shirt. Steve Darnell is an incredible mechanic/artist and deserves as much of the spotlight as he can get.
@@lucassvedlund3851 Steve explains on his youtube channel and in numerous interviews that he didn't enjoy the television show because he had limited control over the plot of each episode and was forced to half ass his builds because as he stated "It might look good enough for TV, but the ratrods would barely run and be falling apart." They rushed everything for the film producers and ultimately he wasn't happy with the outcome of the show. He's a proud artist so I don't blame him. Danny Koker has had the same run with his TV show Counting Cars. He does it for the money but he's not happy with giving up control of his shop and his image to the television producers.
dude this spa up at Cerro Gordo would be so EPIC! imagine taking a dip when the snow has fallen and your looking down the valley from where the Hotel was(is gonna be)
Love this channel. Recently Subscribed. Im a diesel mechanic, use to operate bulldozers, excavators. But I have to say, im learning new things watching every video. Thanks a lot. Im an Army Veteran and never saw those vehicles used as you guys do.
A job done perfectly with a well skilled man and military equipment will get it done right the first time every time. HEAVYDSPARKS and crew i hope you and your family's had a very happy Thanksgiving and have a very blessed day.
Totally agreed, but when they asked would you come hot tub with us ? First thing I thought of was, only if Hunter takes a shower first. I can smell his feet from Australia 🤣✌🇦🇺
Some of the most interesting videos out there are on this channel. (Not to mention the most eclectic characters.) I never fail to learn something and I always am satisfied that I did not waste my time. Thanks for consistently imaginative content!
You have the rigging but I’d invest in a tag line. I’ve had slings slip loading pipe. Tag lines, communication, good operator and perfect hand signals will avoid Dave being under the load. Pick and carry is perfectly safe as long as your chart allows it. If not I would carry it with as little stick out as possible, close to the truck and 25% of the lifting capacity
The crane is rated at approx 5500 lbs. Use outriggers.. I used to write the training for the Army for this vehicle and others. Great trucks. ALWAYS good to use guide ropes before you lift it, so you can control the swing.
I remember using the HEMTT in the late 80’s inton early 90’s at Fort Bliss moving around Patriot Missle Batteries and Radar units in the field. We put them through the paces. One bit of advice, be careful with the window at your feet. Although it has bars on it, believe me it will pop out. Been there done that. But they are super fun.
HD I know you’re smart in moving items but a long hot tub does not have very strong but strong enough side walls to put pressure on. You should have put 2x8 or 2x10 boards between the straps to create a spreader bar to keep the pressure off the side walls. Stay safe
All I see is a mobile spa that can go anywhere, with a really interesting way of getting in and out by crane, and still be able to use it for other loads 😅 is that weird ? But hey another awesome video guys !
Had a friend of mine who installed a hot tube with his road runner hay squeeze. (A over the road machine similar to a fork lift designed to pick up a "stack" of square type of hay bales, for our mid west/ east coast round bale users) Instead of paying a crane to put in his backyard. He used it to lift it over his backyard 8ft tall wall.
Am I missing something? I feel like if you can back right up to this thing with a giant military vehicle, a regular spa delivery trailer could have dropped that thing right where it was 🤔
The best part about all of these recoveries, is the fun you all have with each other while working... That stuff is priceless. Oh also yeh, we need to get Brett a hottub ;).
Change the valve body on the control for spinning the boom and it should fix your problem. I used to work on these in the Army. It's an amazing machine
Heavy D, I operated the H.E.M.I.T.T. boom for over 9yrs. I've been thru the Louisiana swamps to the Washington Blue Ridge mountains with one. Watching your "hot tub" video was really hilarious, but unique. That is "the" recovery vehicle of all vehicles on STEROIDS!!🤪😝
Love when I get a notification for a new video from you let’s do this .!! Keep up the great content brotha love the videos .!!! House is looking killer I live in Draper and was thinking about moving out to the bountiful area. Just love watching how to hang gliders out here at the point pretty kick ass!!!!!!!
I haven’t read all the comments but how many people thought about keeping the tub in the trunk. Unrealistic but fun. Yeah when the pool gets in, you could haul it out to the shop and have a blast on breaks
That's a sweet tub. Man I could use one. I have over 2 months with 2 day off my body is sore. Working on big heavy locomotive's getting a little harder with age and the none stop every day is long days is getting old to. Sweet tub.
Hey Heavy D, what did you think of Hunter turning the five ton wrecker into a super duelly? The hot tub is cool and Hambone's crane is crazy strong. Cool video.
@@hanspetersonSMCO well maybe that is your youtube personality, i still like the content, and respect what y'all do, and admittedly you are the voice of reason in some vids. much respect from the city of Tremonton
Just bought a swim spa those things are HUGE! Mine is about 2x as big as that one. 4 men rolled it in on pvc pipes. The original one I was gonna get was like a 4month back order. Went to a different store and got one a.s.a.p
I really wish I could get my hands dirty and do work the way you guys do. I would give my first born (he sucks don't take the deal) to learn how to fix and recover equipment like y'all do. Keep at it cuz I'm always so inspired by your adventures.
When you buy something, you pay for it. Friend or not. Fact that he's a friend doesn't make it cool to stress him about it. Dude got a bad break getting it in the first place now he's guessing if he will get paid.... that's toxic af. What one does when in a position of power is one of the clearest impressions of one's character possible. Is it all for cinematic purpose? Bad taste maybe? Tbd
That HEMTT is a bad ass vehicle! That hot tub is huge! Enjoy it HD! That trash thing is so messed up! I’m married 25 yrs I’ve nvr takin trash out, my boys do that. I do everything else.
Dude making his wife take out the trash when he doesn’t even do his own chores is pretty sad. But I’ve always thought of him as soft, definitely not very manly lol.
Making me? He doesn't make me do anything. Is that really how you measure how manly someone is? If they take out the trash or not? I'm offended that you think I'm not even capable of taking out the trash by myself... but I assure you I can. And Hans works harder than anyone I know so I think your comment is a little unfair.
@@jaceepeterson9971 you are 100% correct. I feel like such an idiot for even saying that. I definitely am in no shape to judge anyone, I’m sure he works a helluva lot harder than i do. I’m very sorry for my ignorance.
@@hanspetersonSMCO I’m an idiot big dog. Sorry for for letting emotions get the better of me. You’re twice the man I’ll ever be and obviously work very hard to be as successful as you are. My bad 😣
The audio in this video is so messed up. Maybe it was fine at launch day. But someone accidentally did something on the back end after. You should check it out.
My wife takes them out sometimes before I do because she wants all the garage cans in the house emptied! I do not wait for that simple trick and it works!
WHERE CAN I GET SOME. I LIVE PAYETTE,IDAHO. ONTARIO, ONTARIO IS ONLY 5 MILES AWAY. I DON'T KNOW IF I COULD GO TO THE PLACE YOU TOLD ME. THANK YOU SO VERY VERY MUCH FOR ALL YOUR SHOWS. THANK YOU TO ALL YOUR CAMERA CREW.
i am 40yrs old and i have never been in a hot tub of any kind so yes i would join u guys....and i also miss driving my HEMTT cargo truck =) when i was in the US ARMY =) was always enjoyable =)
Crane tips/rules the out rigger needs pads 3 time bigger than the crane pads. When you set up on a hills side like you did you are supposed to be 1 and a half feet away of the hill height so if it’s a 5’ hill/cliff you set up 7’ 6” especially if it’s fresh if it’s well compacted and slopes off good you’re fine at 3’. That pick and carry was perfectly fine. The booms turn like that on every crane that I’ve use if it’s not level it’s not really a big deal if you ask me. Other than the load chart that’s the main stuff I’m sure you guys are smart enough and have common sense to run it. I’d recommend getting the crane license for like a fixed cab crane like the one in my profile picture it’s a 80’ 20ton it’s like 2k for the license 3days of school 2 for preparation for the test 3rd day is for the test and hands on test easy course good for like 4 years or so, it’s probably not needed for that knuckle boom but I say get it why not.
Well guys yous have manage to top it off another never done before recovery but once again heavyd using his boys for what ever he needs love it as long as they get looked after and they get a pay check they will do it lol well done guys love it......
iv said it before and i'll say it again the best channel on you tube. loved the guys on diesel brothers but this is just you guys being yourself rather than being told what to do keep up the good work guys would love to spend a day with yous but i'm in uk so that won't happen be safe guys
My army unit had a Hemet wrecker, the operator was a 6'6" Sicilian an he could wear his Kevlar helmet cause he was to tall even with the seat bottomed out. But that truck was a work horse.
First off...AWESOME M977!! I gotta ask why didn't you drop the doors when loading it?? 😒 I'm and Army Veteran (53 yrs old now) and I was stationed in Fulda Germany 1987-89 and the M977 HEMMIT was my truck... 10 ton 8x8 of Cummings turbo diesel power in field operations for a month at a time (I slept in mine) and then all over Europe on the bad ass Autobahn in my 10 ton!! We were Support Platoon and suppliers of pallets of food and ammo and fuel for all the troops and tankers (110mm rounds for M1a1 tanks) Blackhorse Regiment was the unit's name. PROUDLY SERVED 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲💪
That was an M985. the M977 has the single strand crane, the M985 has the combination strand crane. (I was in an MLRS unit and had to have the cranes with higher lifting capacity)
Wow that's awesome hot tub bro here in the UK 🇬🇧 😀 we can't even get one this size lol congratulations on your new one have fun guys and girls stay safe brother's 😀
I had seen that crane on the back of the hemtt but wasn't sure what it was. I was thinking it was a side loader for 20 foot containers and there was another one tucked away up front. I've never seen a truck mounted crane quite like that. Anyhoo, keep the recovery vids coming and the road trips.. lovin it
Thats awesome. We used a 300 ton crane to move my buddys lol. All ya need is a water tank and ya have a movable swim spa with a heck of a view from anywhere. You guys are awesome.
Oshkosh makes great trucks...always have. I love the P15 airport crash trucks. They make a neat tactical fire truck and a tanker fire truck too for the Army. You got to thank Oshkosh and take a tour of their factory.
If there ever was a sponsorship opportunity for Palfinger this would be the time. Palfinger please give these guys some love and by that I mean get them a couple knuckle booms, the can mount on these vehicles. PK 58.002 TEC 7 should do the job
I was wondering why you guys didn’t put the sides down loading the hot tub because I thought to myself it would make it easier to load but you did to unload it which was smart
