Apologies on the slight mic hiss (To utilize a nice AKG shotgun mic for this video, Early used the internal mic-pre on a Canon 5D, which he forgot was a bit hissy -- the audio levels are otherwise good -- so bear with me on this one!)
A video to help friends and customers spot WE 755's with the USA made "Ohio" recone job. I have not listened to these cones yet, in any 755A. They are however. much different than the original WeCo, Altec and KS 755A. (Heavier, possibly thicker, paper). If you have an original 755A with a tear -- fix it first!. As a last resort, these cones may be a 2nd chance for your 755A baskets, but, even with the original 3-4 ohm coil salvaged -- a different sound will be present, due to altered cone characteristics. There are recone jobs out there -- so be careful. Early ( HiFiTown) spent decades with his father Walt Bender, handling, enjoying, reselling and restoring these speakers -- they're still the best 8" full range ever made (at least in the USA to present). This is great info Early, Would love to hear a side by side comparison of a recone version, using the cones you mention, vs an original 755A. Glad I came across this!

What was the MAIN use of this driver and where do they show up in? I heard they could be found in paging systems in schools or hospitals is this true? Also WHAT makes this such a special driver? And what type of cabinet would you put it in for a driver like this.love the video.you need a arrow to point out things on the cone.

Thanks Gerald. In the second video (when I find the time) - I will use a pointer. Digital effects are not my style, so will use a old school pointing stick :) The 755A was engineered to be as close-to- perfect, in the 8" format, in the 100-13k cycle range -- it's peak performance is in the midrange where most musical information lies. The huge magnet controls the heavy, specially designed con and large voice coil with precision. Any lightweight 8" full range driver can do the same thing. and much cheaper and lighter. is less smooth and has more distortion.... The 755A has the best response and most detail -- with true realistic sound within it's limits. (Their are other good 8" speakers that can go lower and higher than the WE 755) .... WECO did not need to make money -- so it was built cost-no-object. As a High Fidelity product, WE speakers like this were a commercial failure. They were sometimes installed in industrial and commercial locations, yes, and by the late 1950s, they were sold in the back of magazines as "surplus" until they were all gone by the early 60s..
