Great answers. East of Eden is one of my favorite novels, too. You had no problem adding the book covers to the video.

I loved this tag! In the Heart of the Sea is one I'm going to get to this Summer. Spineless sounds fascinating so I will be adding that to my list.

Thanks, Arianne! I hope that you love both of them. Spineless was such a crazy read, everything about jellyfish is just so other worldly!

Really nice tag! I think you made some great choices. I read East Of Eden a long time ago and loved it. It's probably time for a re-visit. Spineless sounds so good. Jellyfish are truly amazing.

Thanks, Laverne! I am thinking of reading East of Eden again later this month perhaps.

This IS a unique tag - fun! I have In the Heart of the Sea on my shelves, and I still haven't gotten to it - hopefully for Nonfiction November this year! I haven't read Moby Dick yet. Heart of a Dog sounds interesting. Funny that several of your choices relate to the oceans! Fun tag - I might do this one, too :)

Thanks, Sue! I would love to watch your version if you decide to do it! It's a really fun/thought provoking tag to do. :)

Off topic in a way but I had to chuckle as the ad right under you on my feed is for Open Water. I read the book about the Essex and it was a really good read for me. It made Moby Dick come alive in a way that I don’t think it would have if I had not read it. Glad you survived your visit with Steve 😅

Thanks! In the Heart of the Sea really helped to bring Moby Dick alive for me as well!

I'm always ready to check out a Nathaniel Philbrick book. I've read most of them. First rate writer and historian.

Completely agree with you, Franklin! He is a favorite of mine as well.

My most thought-provoking story was The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas. Really made me think about ethics and the value of human life especially with relation to the trolley problem.

Heart of a Dog was indeed a very thought-provoking book. When I read it, I thought about it for days, no, weeks afterwards. East of Eden is in my summer lineup of books I want to read. I hope it resonates with me also and becomes one of those books that I go back to continually. Love hearing your answers to this tag.

I remember going to a special jellyfish exhibition at my local aquarium and being in awe of how they could even be alive. They just look so beautiful and strange! I will definitely look for Spineless. Would you consider making a video of your favourite sea books? That would include natural history, naval history or biography, and novels.
@MicahCummins
@MicahCummins Год назад
Aren't they just simply magical, Deborah? I would definitely consider making a video for that! Thank you for the idea!

@@MicahCummins i have no idea how this comment ended up on this post. I was commenting on a post about Susan Boyle. RU-vid had a major hiccup.

That’s okay, Michael! I figured that this was about her. RU-vid does some crazy stuff sometimes!

Great video! Re The Luminaries: I felt that the author was too caught up in her structuring, the halving of the length of each chapter and making sure her astrological charts worked out. But that made it too mechanical, too perfect, and not emotionally engaging enough for me. It was good, but maybe too clever for its own good.
@MicahCummins
@MicahCummins Год назад
Thank you! That is a wonderful way to put it. I agree with you that the emotional aspects of the novel seemed stripped away, it really seemed to clever for its own good to me as well.
