Love the symbolism behind the location of each's downfall. Stringer was gunned down in a construction building, Avon was arrested in a safehouse full of weapons. Representative of both of their ideologies, business vs. gangster.
If you read between the lines of the story that Avon & Stringer reminisce over, it is parallel to what had happened to them at that particular point. While a young Avon warned Stringer about trying to take on a game that was unfamiliar to them like Batmitten, Stringer did it anyway and found himself in trouble. Similar to how Stringer tried to add avenues of business to their operation that were foreign and ended up getting screwed. Remember this "What I tell you about playin those fuckin away games?"
You simply cannot understand the greatness of this scene without watching every episode that comes before it first. Nor can you put the separation between String and Avon on one sole event. They both wanted to go about the drug trade their own way. Business vs Muscle. Season 1 they were so tight because they basically had little or no competition. As Marlo entered as competition, Avon and String disagreed on many key decisions. This led to their growing separation and eventual demise
Stringer KNEW something was up when Avon asked him where he was going to be and what time. Plus, look at his eyes when Avon said 'It's just business'. I think he knew he was in for it.
Each one of them knowing they're gonna betray the other, reminiscing about the good old days one last time before the other one goes away, really powerful scene
The story about Stringer running hard as hell mirrored perfectly in his death scene. Only time he ran in this whole show. And Avon warned him not to get too deep in that world too.
