David Tao ~OMAR'S 24/7 CAFE~ customer : Can I get 2 eggs scrambled, bacon , sausage, hash browns, and toast ..oh and I almost forgot , side offer of grits!! Omar: "Oh, Indeed. About that last minute order of grits , ain't no sweat coming off my eyebrows, bruh..and we got butter on the side Incase you ponder" 😂😂
@@xorpe7172 The Bible evokes Gods name many times. its just a misconception that somehow exploded in the US. In means don't evoke his name for vain reasons or false promises.
gundm _ absolutely. It’s all strategy. At church in his suit and tie he makes himself look respectable so is grandma can feel proud and he can sell the lie that he isn’t a criminal. At Bird’s trial Omar specifically kept his normal clothes on to seem like an honest thug. His presentation and attitude was rough but charming, and it worked on the jurors to convince them he wasn’t lying when he was.
@@SquigPie His accent made it sound like "cutter" but common fucking sense dictates that he obviously said colored lady since given the context he was using here, point being I get how the other guy's ears heard "cutter" but I agree with you that it was obviously "colored".
Slim showed his code. To him, to be so disconnected from what's right that he was basically calling out Stringer. Every word and he would know that. That's why he was so disgusted. You can lie to yourself about playing a role in the hell they live in now but to murder a old colored lady. Sadly the men never lived long enough so the only strong old people they got are the old colored lady. They almost all gone now so to Slim to even think of killing a colored lady right in front of a church
lol no wonder the episode was called "slapstick" i was laughing my ass off all through slim charles and omar ranting, all that righteous indignation just seems so comical for some reason, great writing
First off these individuals arnt responsible for buying weapons and ammo, second you think these guys walk into a gun store and buy ammo legally.... nooo they buy off some black market source that no doubt ups the price
They are savage, look at how they beat up a dealer that was pocketing money that belonged to the Barksdale organization. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DW7apyYjjCg.html
A couple of my favorite lines from the whole entire series are when them niggas Gerard, Country, and Chipper was getting ready to take out one of Marlo's crews with backup from Cuddy and Slim Charles waiting in a nearby alley, Slim Charles and Cuddy had given all of them specific advice before the ambush with Cuddy telling them to DON'T anything until he calls their cell phone, and while Cuddy and Slim Charles was preparing for the ambush in a nearby alley it then cuts away over to Country and Chipper talking in the car and Country was trying to tell Chipper "We should wait for the call!....."😂😂 It's funny to me because seconds later, Chipper didn't want to listen and had seen one of the members of Marlo's crew and said "There go that muthafucka Nay-Nay man!..... I say we get him!" And Country tried to tell him again "We should wait for the call!....." But Chipper didn't want to listen, got his goof ass shot in the head and crashed the car, got Country shot up after the crash, and Gerard managed to get out of the car and ran fast as hell down the street😂😂
Boski Gwalla *Subscribe* this is what Slim meant when he said good help is hard to find. They didn’t have Bird, Stinkum and Bey no more. All they had was incompetent morons. You’re only as strong as your weakest links. And the dudes they had as muscle was definitely some weak links.
There’s only like 3 rules in the game 1. No snitching. 2. No being a bitch. 3. No killing woman or children (unless the woman is in the game). Outside of that pretty much anything is fair game. It’s up to you how grimy you want to get.
I love how Stringer just snatches sham's notepad to see what he was writing in it especially after the whole "taking notes on a criminal fucking conspiracy" line lmao
how you figure that? people like using the chess pieces comparison. well slim was a knight not a pawn as many misrepresent his position he was security and muscle for the crew. So he was doing his job getting those knuckleheads straight.
@@cjjonez Slim was part of the leadership. Yes, he was a solider and muscle, but he was more than that. You know how sometimes soldiers are more loyal to their Lt. or Captain than the General? That's how I see the soldiers in the Barksdale crew. They respect Slim more than Stringer. These guys knew it was wrong to try and kill Omar on a Sunday. Stringer disrespects the game by ordering the hit and Slim rightfully bitches them out.
Nah Slim was the head muscle and had enough pull to do that, just like in the beginning when D’Angelo left to go get food and the Pit got robbed, and he got chewed out by Weebay. They got an earful but probably didn’t get in more trouble cause Stringer foolishly made the call.
I like how even omar, notorious wild card that doesn't play by their rules and actively goes against them, respects the truce and is genuinely outraged at those that breaks them
Omar plays by the rules of the game and has a code. He even says that when Barksdale kills a civilian it pissed him off. The only “rule” he goes against is talking to the police but that’s because he doesn’t have any loyalty towards Barksdale and he only does it when Barksdale does something real fucked up.
sinthia carr Slim called her that because she was part of that generation of black ppl who were called “colored”. And a church-going, older, and well respected woman in the black community. This was one reason they why they had a Sunday morning truce.
"Do you know what a 'coloured lady' is? Not your moms, for sure, cuz if they was then y'all would have known better than that bullshit!" i love that line lol
@@jayjayson9613 he said coloured lady, it's his accent. It's a black older church-going lady in your community that grew up under segregation. Not someone even gang bangers would mess with.
Factssss.. avon knew who the real threat was.. co op should of back avon instead they didn't and Marlo terrorized them niggaa.. one more thing.. price of a brick going up. 😊
"No! I'm standin' here holdin' a torn up church crown of a bonafide cutta lady." "Do you know what a cutta lady is?" "NAATCHYO MOMS FO' SHO'!" "Cause if they was that, y'all would have known better than that BOUL-SHIET!"
It's colored lady. It means an elder black woman who came up in the time we were called colored. She's a church lady that is usually respected in the community, even by the neighborhood thugs.
Ive watched this series a few times...I never realized sapper and gerard called Slim Charles (Avons right hand) first before calling Shamrock (Stringers right hand)...Slim would have told them the correct thing to do and not kill omar on a sunday...shamrock did warn stringer first and at least gerard/sapper had sense enough to call both tho...
Thats why they should have been let off the hook. They didnt act all wreckless and whatnot for no reason. U even hear Jerrod say something bout the sunday morning truce.
That was the sloppiest hit I ever saw on the wire, they came around the Conner and wasn't ready at all. Timing is everything, they shouldn't even have moved on them and with all that shooting nobody got hit
That's why they're after Omar - he got rid of their best hitmen. Don't get me wrong, Bird and Stinkum were dumm, but they never messed up a hit like that.
You can tell that a lot of the experience Simon got when he wrote this show was from the seventies and eighties, because in modern Baltimore there for damn sure is no Sunday Morning Truce. "The game is still the game, it just got fiercer" Slim Charles
+Big R It was made up completely for the show. There was no such truce in the 80s which was actually the peak of violence in the U.S. compared to today.
***** You take into consideration that most people you talk to on the internet aren't english or american or australian or w/e english speaking countries. What seems easy to hear/understand in a certain dialect in english may seem easy to some but isn't to others. People making an effort trying to speak english so you can understand them because you wouldnt understand them if they would speak any other language don't deserve to be called retarded.
+Kocayine No it's definitely a black woman who lived through Jim Crow laws, that's why he says coloured, that was the term for non white people back then.
That’s why David Simon hired Robert F Chew. Besides his acting abilities and professionalism, he said he had one of the most authentic Baltimore accents.
i cant remember another time when slim charles chastised someone...hes usually cool and calm. a thinking man but here he got a chance to show the leadership skills hes gonna need when he eventually inherits everything. such a great character.
mysticx0 well he did get in that one dude’s ass who was sleeping when he was supposed to be watching the door at Joe’s appliance shop when Omar came in talking bout he “ran outta time”. You can’t really hear much, but as Omar and renaldo are walking away you can see Slim chewing his ass out.
I'm running out of superlatives to describe this show. The Wire is SPECIAL Y'all. Lots of Love from London. Stay Strong Baltimore - Stay Strong Brothers and Sisters.
Grandma :" Oh my goodness!" Lolol But the best part thats missing is when the 2 dudes are waiting to see Avon. Someone walks in and says "I heard yall shot at an old lady today....mmm mm mmm *smh*" Lolll
@@Raphie009 Lol the whole thing was a massive botch. They should've provided more information in the first instance. Shamrock should've asked for more information and Stringer should've known better.
David B but Shamrock even mentioned during the phone call relaying info to String that it was a church day. String shoulda known the rules. Even Gerard and Sapper’s dumb asses knew that. So that’s on String. One for ordering the attempted hit to go down on a Sunday morning, two for hiring two morons like Gerard and Sapper.
Dam I miss the wire ,but aren't them two the same ones that string called a 40 degree day dudes this is a prime example they always get 40% of the job done
Check out the picture the minute taker has drawn at 00:21. It's a naked chick sat on a rocket. Haha, it's pretty good. Stringer picks up the notepad and has a look. You can tell he's thinking "WTF" LOL
This strange little Sunday morning truce is one of the big reasons Avon was able to endure for so long until Stringer ratted him out, he wasn't a sociopath who ruled the area through pure fear like Marlo. Marlo was always going to burn out because he couldn't invoke anything but pure terror in the community, and that can only last so long.
yup. Great point. And if you look at the most powerful / successful leaders of criminal organizations throughout history they also ruled in the same way. It's much smarter as it enables the community to defend and protect the criminals from law enforcement. You want people to not only be afraid to snitch on you due to the obvious consequences and fear you to an extent but you also don't want to "cross the line" where people feel things have gone to far and is effecting to many Good / Normal people where they will feel there is no other option but to snitch no matter how bad the consequences may be.
Even more than Avon…Prop Joe. He kept it quiet as a mouse making money hand over fist the entire show, with little violence on the eastside. It’s a shame Marlo did him dirty like that, Joe should’ve never let him meet the connect.
@ True but consider this. If the black people who went through the slave trade are the true Jews, then those laws as in respecting God's day shouldn't be taken lightly by any of them. It's not just important to Grandma or the drug trade to have order but for the that community to obey the laws of God. Participating in the drug phenomenon has cursed this community until this day. When you turn away from God you turn to the wolves. Just my Outlook.
@@imanisteel7960 you have right to your opinion but Slim Charles wasn't talking about religious conspiracies (no matter if said conspiracies are true or not). The reason he calls her a "bonafide colored lady" is the struggles she faced during the Civil Rights era and the Church Crown is significant in the fact that the Christian religion was instrumental in that cause as Doctor Martin Luther King Jr was a preacher and many protests and marches and such were started and organized through the Churches while for this same reason the Churches became targets for KKK such as the bombings and burning of Black Churches in the South as retribution / intimidation tactics from the KKK. That is the depth of this scene.
But you have no clue what Avon would have done since he was asleep. Tywin Lannister has the same conversation with Tyrion in Game of Thrones after the red wedding. Tywin asked Tyrion “ explain to me why it’s less noble to kill a dozen people at dinner than 10,000 on the battlefield?” In then the wolf doesn’t care about the opinions of the sheep. Omar was hard enough to find. Stringer saw an opportunity and took it. Avon most likely would have done the same thing.
Juan Alvarez Well, Stringer was following the Sunday morning truce for years. But like he said, when Sapper called to say they saw Omar, I guess he just really didn’t give a damn. That’s what he basically told Avon. Besides, grandma hadn’t come outside yet. But still... that’s why they used to have a truce! Killing the elderly, accidentally, will get the police and community leaders on your ass fast.
@@deb7457 What he told Avon was straight up a lie. He said he heard the name Omar and didn’t think about it being sunday, while in fact Shamrock told him it was sunday.
Slim Charles not only understood the rules, he understood the impact this move would have to Avon's reputation. We are later reminded of how important reputation is when Brother Mouzone reminded Avon about it.
Stringer gets a lot of criticism for his rule after Avon got locked up but he had garbage soldiers working for him. Frigging Beavis and Butthead assassination squad.
"... holdin' the torn up church crown of a bonafide colored lady! Do you know what a colored lady is!? Not yo Moms fer sho!" The writing and delivery on this show is nothing short of brilliant.
Just goes to show you that once you're in the game, it's hard to get out. Omar said he was gonna walk away from the game after Tasha got killed in that shoot out when he was attempting to rob a stash but he couldn't even do that, seeing how they disrespected the Sunday truce. That street life'll suck you in and it's hard to get out
OK just hear me out. If it’s a truce on Sunday mornings and grandmothers are off limits then why were then goofy mfs staking out his grandma house on Sunday morning?
