I’ll never forget when Avon said “he a man today. He a man.” In a strange way, Cutty was the closest person that Avon, a king in the streets, almost looked up to, almost with envy like he wished he could find a purpose beyond the streets. Maybe that’s a stretch, but I’ll never forget that scene.
wow I never saw that but it makes sense. I always thought Cutty had exercise and boxing, Omar had reading books, Prop Joe had clock repairs, String had education, Marlo had birds, Weebey had fish, But what did Avon have I saw Avon as having boxing early but gave up boxing to become King
I think Cutty was also affected by the fact that the dudes who were in the streets when he came home were babies when he went away. He wasn't familiar and the reputation he built in the streets wasn't recognized by the wild youngsters who replaced the dudes his own age who were either dead or in jail. An example of this is when he first met Bodie. Also with Fruit.
@@willstaywinning Monk is an asshole, more so than any other person in the show, rather in the street. Him pumping 2 230g .45 ACP rounds in his leg, i was hoping he'd get what was coming, but he got locked up.
That line Cutty had about watching himself do things he didn’t want to do but never been able to stop the show.. is the back drop to my fucking life. I felt that shit in my spirit.
His body was on autopilot while his soul was looking for a new outlet. I used to be like this, not on street/criminal level because even though I'm from the hood, i was never on that time like my used to be homies. It was more like myself realizing I'm doing things that brings me no joy, no self pride... That was until I decided i wanted to make a living with the talent God gave me, so I got on it, one step at the time, since then, every wins showed me i was right, and every losses showed me i need to keep going. Every man needs a challenge.
Seeing Cutty go down the right path was one of the most refreshing parts of the show; seeing a likeable character getting a somewhat happy ending was nice, and an example for real life black men in the street who face the same problems after getting out of the system. It almost makes up for what happens to Dukie :(
Cutty is one of the few good thing that happens to this tragic show, bunny and the white teacher..too Bad he couldn't save Michael but at least all of these men tried...
That nurse chick was fine and a lot better than that school teacher he was sweating in the beginning. I didn't like him chasing her and the way she treated him. Stuck up b.
Some of my favorite scenes are when Cutty asks Avon out of the game, and when he asks Avon for some money to open the boxing gym! Gotta love Avon for that too.
I say this with a full understanding of the situation. This one felt personal and really gave me something of an understanding of my own situation and struggle within. I spent ten years down and that changed me. Sometimes I feel like a shark with no teeth. The truth is I'm afraid to be anything other than what I've been. This video is about all those like me. Once a street soldier now somewhat lost. Aggression and violence is the past but getting past it and the mindset is a struggle. For some reason this video gives me insight and a little hope. You might be analyzing fictionalized characters but you speaking on real life. Keep doing what you doing bro. You doing something that needs to be done. All respect to you hommie
@@AMansWorldPodcast you should be a motivational speaker or something. Not just for street guys but also "real world" people like myself that explain the psychology of people that spend time in prison or working the streets before and wanting to make a legit living for themselves, that don't really get to see the reasons (or rather, the psychology of it before and after...the reason to provide and make good money is quite easy to understand) for people choosing a life of crime.
Cutty was one of the most underrated characters of the show. This is the game. True the game has the cats who don’t want to leave, but they also have the Cuttys. Just wish we would’ve got a prequel that actually showed Cutty shooting a man and calling the police afterwards to tell them what he just did. Good shit bro
@@caseyhart4999 not sure why I didn’t see the notification of your comment 2 months ago but yea ima try to watch the deuce again. It was hard for me to get into it on first watch. I do like how they have characters from the wire in it. I might give it another chance
I spent the entire day bingeing on this man's channel. Goddamn this is a man who has known violence and he understands having to evolve beyond the broken single mother's son that is volatile and violent. He knows what it means to choose to become a man.
I got out of the military at 30 and felt like I had to start all over ..went to a dark place for a little while but eventually got my shit together...I can relate to Cutty from that standpoint.
I got out at 40 (20 years served) and I saw a lot of people have issues separating from service. I think I came out ridiculously healthy in my personal identity because my personal identity wasn't attached to whatever the military gave me identity-wise. My rank and awards were just objects within a system I knew I couldn't take with me. I was definitely attached to the work (see: McNulty/Lester analysis) but I realized that the work will not save me BEFORE I got out. Healthy personal identity as a Soldier is a serious journey of self-reflection fam. I feel you. I could have been in a darker place.
to A Man’s World Podcast: Please don't do videos saying you're “tired.” We're all tired. That's a part of the game. You can be tired but you still have to do your duty. Michael Jordan was tired and was poisoned, but he still had to lead the Bulls to a championship.
Cutty knew who he was and was able to represent himself as himself. In my mind that’s puts him in the class of Omar in terms of characterization on this show. He deserved all the good he got.
I'm soo happy I watched this. I grew up in the projects and I had been fighting myself because I'm in the nursing field and there's a lot of angry big mouths. My one side tells me to don't respond when a workers or client tries tempting you into a argument, the other side, which is the project people tells me not to let them punk me out and to yell back. In truth I already know those people are trying to get me fired. They tell on me all of the time but yet claims everyone else are snitches. I'm happen I seen this, it tells me it's OK to just do your job well, it's OK to walk away from people trying to argue with you. And it's OK to ignore the instigators.
Ignoring Instigators is just something we all have to do if we want to make something of ourselves in the "Civilized" or Employee World. Its something that goes hand in hand with learning to control your emotions and not letting them control you.
Big slims, this joint too short. You gotta give us at least 15 to 16 minutes. We feemin' over here man. I was just settlin' in and you ending things, lol. I can't wait for part two on every character you've covered so far. However, I know there are many characters you still must do a 1st video of. Keep these joint coming but please know that we starving for this stuff.
"Soldiers are not comfortable unless they are fighting for something. Unless they are protecting something more important than themselves." ^Facts. As an ex-Soldier 20yr military vet I take all my fight into civil rights, social justice intellectual activism. Information-oriented civil rights work. Writing, photography. You explained this well. I always knew this of myself, but you explained it in a very layman's way. You also explained why one out of four folks who attacked the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. to stop a Constitutional electoral process (Jan 6th 2021). The bigger part is realizing if the things we are fighting for of our own choosing are really important or not.
You gone make me binge watch the whole series . I like how you always add a psychological aspect to each video and tie it back in as far as masculinity. Very thorough brother . Good content
Cutty is a man who’s demons constantly try to impose their will,, duality of Man, good n evil etc, but his character is good, he eventually finds his way , after several attempts! I dig that you said, being yourself is moral courage!! Thanks for your insight as always, can’t wait for the next one!!
The only thing the Wire misrepresented about Baltimore during that time was the clothes…😂😂we wasn’t wearing no G-Unit or Run Athletics I’m still mad over that..
After several major players (Chris, Omar, Snoop, Slim), Cutty was one of the most terrifying characters, while being one of the only ones who seem to have become rehabilitated through their time “in the game,” and behind bars.
And he was a true “soldier,” I wonder if with actual military experience, the way he set up the team to enact the hit, drawing maps and all, teaching the young ones.
He is up there with Michael and Slim Charles with my absolute favourite characters. Shoutout Calvin Ford. As Tank's career keeps growing the Wire becomes more and more special to me
I liked cutty's transformation to gym coach. I didnt like how they had monk shoot him in his leg. I always felt that an experienced kat like himself would have seen that coming. But then I guess the message is nobody's immune to the streets. That's what makes this show great!
I hated the fact that he got shot in the leg, but the scene had to happen because young street cats who don't know you will do things like that to make an example out of you. It also pointed out how unfettered he was in his resolve because Cutty could very well show Monk who he was really dealing with. The scene showed that his street element of not fearing these younger kids is also dangerous, as real life dictates. If he had a regular, healthy fear of a possible situation of getting shot by a dealer, that whole scene wouldn't have happened. One more thing--the scene had to happen to [1] show Michael break street-register and show he actually cares, and [2] show Cutty let go of both his own thug nature AND Michael. It shown him give up one of his best students, respecting Michael's decision as he knows more about his decision than Michael does himself.
@@AMansWorldPodcast I would try to do some on Makaveli The Art of War by Sun Tzu and Robert Greene's 48 Laws and you can also talk about how they use them in the show Power everybody loves the wire but if you're looking for new content everybody loves ghost and Tommy keep doing what your doing you have good content it takes a time to get your name out there but I tell everybody try this podcast out your boy goes deep into every character
@@lexluther9692 just reading the Table of Contents of the 48 Laws of Power had my nerves trembling. I refer this book to all new Airmen coming in the AF because they're definitely going to meet these characters and the tactics are used on us all the time.
to A Man’s World Podcast: You gotta talk about Avon Barksdale's saying “You only gotta f*** up once. Be a little slow. Be a little late, just once. And how you ain't gonna never be slow, never be late.”
Great work. Cutty is an interesting dude. I agree. Cutty explaining to Avon his head wasn't in the game any more was BRAVE. P.S. I LOVED the Deacon character (the real life Avon unless I'm mistaken). The guy was wissssseeeeee with all his interactions with Cutty, Colvin, politicians.
My friend said if he did a 5 year bid, he would've got out and went straight back to hustling. After a 10 year bid, he was like the hell with that. Went legit and made it with his smart brain.
« Having heart is not in your willingness to commit crime … HAVING HEART IS IN YOUR WILLINGNESS TO BE YOURSELF !!! » 🔥🔥🔥 This right here, is one of the REALEST STATEMENT i’ve heard in my life !! 👍🏾💯✅ Salute to you, Brotha and may the peace be upon you 🫡🙏🏾🕊️
Dennis stepping up and telling Avon that he didn't take the shot was one of the bravest actions in the show. Avon also looked a lot better for respecting him and his decision. His story really made me think about the lack of opportunities for someone coming out of jail, especially someone who is trying to do better. That system is so screwed up. I don't know what the answer is though
He is right. I took the long route school building up my work experience. I used to see Street dudes riding in vettes and benz and be like I want that lifestyle. Then they all want to jail over a decade and I got a good wife, daughter graduating from college, 2 Beemers, 5 bedroom house and a great career. I saw one of the big time hustlers at a wedding. He said I knew you would do big things and you did it the right way. He also said you the only one of my friends that could come in my house cause you was trustworthy and had no reason to harm me. Despite all the things I have accumulated. The fact I have peace and sanity is the most important thing of all
@A Man's World Podcast Sir: YOU HAVE A GIFT!!!😉👏🏿👏👏🏿 Thank you so much for posting this kind of content!!! I am a "Wire" fan - and I appreciate your analysis! You break things down and make sense for others who have watched the show and needed clarification on the characters and THE GAMES OF MANY! Your honesty rings true! 💯 I'm sure there are alot men and women in the real world who can understand or relate! 😀 Cutty/Dennis Wise is equally important in this series. I was glad that he was finally able to see some light! He had no clue what his journey would be right after leaving the game. He moved on a different road that was challenging, uncomfortable, and definitely humbling. Even Avon recognized that he is a man today (AND later had no problem handing him $15,000 for his boxing gym)! 😉👍🏿👍 RESPECT!!!👏🏿💯
I've been binge watching your vids since I found this channel. Your Wire analysis is incredible bro. For a show that's been off air for 14 years you're breathing life back into it. Keep it up!
Thank you so much for your Wire analysis! I'm Russian and I don't get some moments of the game because I grow up in a completely different culture. Your videos make me understand and love The Wire even more.
That humbling experience you speak of , I had to come to terms to that recently .. End of the day , in the “regular world” , nobody cares what you did in the streets. And just because they can they’ll talk to you a way. You gotta eat that and not be emotional , no matter how right you are. Gotta use what you know to work with what you have, and where you are matters
Out of everybody on the wire, Cutty was the one I identified with the most. I was just coming home when it came out, and went from hardcore convict, to working a job and raising my 6 month of old nephew, lol, trying to figure out a normal life.
Cutty was definitely one of the only characters who changed for the positive long term. Dude, just found your channel and love your take on and passion for The Wire! Peace and love to you...
This is definitely the best channel on RU-vid talking about the wire. Wisdom and positivity and a insight in to the characters that is brilliant. Much love from the UK, keep the content coming 🇬🇧💯🇺🇸
That line, "Cutty works for me"-I never thought about it before this video, but I wonder whether there was message in this. That, ultimately, Cutty works for Dennis and is accountable to him, that in the end, Dennis is the one calling the shots.
Great work. Very insightful. Cutty was one of my favorites. These breakdowns of the characters are 🔥🔥🔥. You're a great narrator. Primetime networks will get hip ✊🏾
This was deep. For some reason I can relate. I never been locked up or anything, but the emotions he went through about his self is what I been emotionally struggling with. I know I have a calling, but just don't know where the entrance is to the door.
Yes Cutty was definitely one of the positive characters on the show . He was able to transcend passed that street life . Glad he end with a good women an continuing his boxing education in the community. Great breakdown of Cutty brother . Glad you got your R&R always needed 👍🏽
I am always in awe of your in depth analysis of these characters. Having spent a good half of my life let’s just say not living up to my potential. Some of the things you say actually make me realize things about myself that I wasn’t even aware of. You truly with these videos help me realize things about myself that are actually painful to confront but I thank you for that because it helps me grow as a father, husband, person in general. God bless and keep these joints coming they are 🔥🔥🔥
Cutty/Dennis Wise hands down is my favorite character of the WIRE. (1) He left the 🎯 game. (2) He opened a gym. (3) He learned Landscaping & (4) He started learning Spanish. A complete transformation.
Time is the greatest thief Feared Killer on the streets....get locked up for 10 or 20....then see how much that fear is worth on the block I grew up with guys how made millions on the street and 30 years later they are either still locked up or have nothing Brother is dropping words of wisdom.
Dude I can listen to you talk about the Wire for hours. The shit you see is deep. I dont have that ability, so I really respect that. Loving the content.
I see alot of myself in Cutty /Dennis Wise. I did all this for a time. And I did it in the legal way. Both ways is a game. One legal and illegal isn't much different from the other. Cause unless you're the boss you still have to take orders. I finally became my own boss and it's a great honor and privilege.
What’s so crazy about the wire is how gets better over time by being so accurate. For example, in my city, St. Louis, MO, every rapper/trapper has seen The Wire so the rules are engrained into the thought. Like we have our own Avon(3 Problems Lil Tay) who is the old-guard/living legend of the streets/music in a citywide beef between him and the new up and comers who don’t respect the rules(30 deed and the assorted dookies) who are all kids who switch their gang affiliations, weren’t in the streets forreal, and diss dead people they didnt kill in their music. We even have a Prop Joe type third party that play both sides like (Luh and the 55 boys) who used to be cool with Lil Tay but now are distinctly neutral instead of opps since both have the same dookie opps… and of course the political side of the wire explains why we are still the murder capital(cause of aforementioned cliques, LA gangs having direct contact still, and political corruption)… st louis should get its own tv show lmao
Every video you put out is a banger. I was skeptical at first because a name like A Man's World gives me toxic masculine vibes, but you understand the difference between toxic masculinity and positive, divine masculinity. I'm glad I found your channel man. Keep up the good work.
Cutty was the man, though. As a soldier, as a teacher, as a caring father figure and a community role model. He was a real man, and I agree with his decision to leave the street life behind. Even though he probably didn’t have a decision to make, considering it was almost certainly the street life that left him behind.
My brother if you haven’t been to college yet please go and get that psych degree because my boy you have a gift and your analytical instincts can go a long way in the environments we come from...you will def change lives!! Bro I’ve watched everyone of these videos 3/4 times already!
You ain't listening, "it ain't in me no more" on of my favorite lines as Dennis replaces Cutty. Greatest show ever written...my opinion. There are so many variables that you miss by only watching once. Great video, keep them coming.
I know I'm late to the party with my comment, but I just wanted to point out that I think they gave him the last name Wise for a reason. Sure, he flailed a bit when he got out (who wouldn't, after 14 years inside), but he found his footing by being true to himself and his nature. He screws up, but he learns. He was the street soldier that found a way to "retire" with dignity and truly start a new chapter in his life. That shows growth and wisdom.
What you’re is very great you’re educating and entertaining at the same thing, even giving us some real life examples what you’re building is very great. I’m glad I found your channel when I did. Have a good day 💪🏽💯
Cutty wasn't one of my favorite characters but your breakdown made me rethink what I hated about him. That fact he was thirsty, but I really didn't understand that he didn't realize he was hurting himself by drinking to much, if you know what I mean. You really changed how I look at a man and his problems on a deeper level then what we see.
Excellent analysis. Cutty was one of my favorite characters on the show. The scene where he gains Avon’s respect by admitting he couldn’t squeeze the trigger and that The Game wasn’t in him anymore was one of the great scenes in TV history.
