When I recently showed off the prototype I called my "Wireless Backpack," a number of you said you'd love for that solution to be publicly available. But I wasn't satisfied with the prototype. So it was back to the drawing board until I had what I wanted. This is the solution I came up with, available now at www.fzerocamera.com/plastic

Please, the industry NEEDS this 😭

Love this idea. I just bought a v mount clamp for my batteries and a baby pin to 1/4-20 for my wireless transmitter yesterday. I’d be all over this to be able to just mount a battery and connect the transmitter!

Still don' understand why no brand invented this before you did. Perfection.

Price is a little bit high for me but you came up with a great solution so well done!
@nick_salazar
@nick_salazar 14 дней назад
Yeah that's a fair criticism. Pricing was calculated according to this rough idea: "I do want people to have these things. But I don't want to give my work away. And I also don't want to spend all my time printing parts and fulfilling orders. Also I will have to deal with customers if they need any help, so I want it to be worth my time." That means it may be too expensive, and I fully accept that. The #1 goal of these parts isn't to make money, but to work for me on my own projects.

If price is high just use velcro, been doing this for years.

This is super smart Nick! Nicely done and well thought out! I’d love to see it bundled with 2 or 3 in a kit because you know we’ll need more than just one lol 😂

Are magnets on a battery and on wireless system a good idea (e.g. interference)?
@nick_salazar
@nick_salazar 9 дней назад
I haven’t noticed any problems whatsoever.

Do the magnets interfere with the battery or wireless Tx?
@nick_salazar
@nick_salazar 14 дней назад
Nope! I mentioned this in the prototype video, should have done so here as well. But inside my suburban home with a couple dozen other wireless devices, we still had rock solid transmission between the farthest two points of the home.

So how is the design better than velcro? I think it's kinda steep at $85
@nick_salazar
@nick_salazar 13 дней назад
If you love velcro, go for it! For me, this is far superior. For you, maybe it isn't worth it.

Hi Nic, first let me commend on a really great contribution. My only concern with this design if I may add is that I'm curious to know if it would've been at all possible to make the plates slightly thinner? And more importantly, while you state that they are nudge proof, I feel that any force coming from the front of the camera, directed towards the back of the camera could easily send expensive gear plummeting to the ground and for that reason, I feel that this design as great as it is, is somewhat flawed. I believe that it could greatly benefit from the nubs, not being single ovals, but rather a notched oval that slide and lock into place in conjunction with the magnets, holding them on so that you would line them up and slide in the downward motion, the magnets, pulling the plate into place and locking the knob into the notch. This way, no motion whatsoever, no force, rather could separate the plates. I know you said this is a final design, but I do believe that, without the addition of such a tweak, this Design runs the risk of having parts be separated in a manner that can be catastrophic.

Thanks for the feedback! However this is indeed the final design. It's about the same thickness as the magnets inside. So it only gets thinner with less magnetic force. Also for products with overhang (like the Zoom F3) this is as thin as it can be and have that work. As for more complex retention ideas, I'm quite happy with this one. Perhaps it’s not the product you personally would want, but it is the product that I want. :-)
