Only the most diehard fair dinkum devoted Gizzfans know the most obscure and unknown piece of Gizzlore - in the song Rattlesnake, Stu actually says: Rattlesnake Rattlesnake Rattlesnake Rattles ME
And now I cant unhear this, Its also almost more like Rattlesnae Rattlesnae Rattlesnae Rattlesme So the reason its hard to hear the rattles me is because Stu is softening the K of rattlesnake so they blend together better. Or atleast thats how I hear it.
As someone who listened to their discography including all of their KEXP sessions and their Red Rocks performance, I can confirm they are the best modern rock band. They consistently pump out quality shit and I love it. They never miss a beat, except for that one time in Mr. Beat. Edit : apparently I listened to just one of the nights, and it was the night with The Evil River. I didn't actually listen to all 9 hours but I will
Thanks very much - there are plenty of videos out there devoted to that topic so I didn't want to go too deep into it. Also it is only one factor in what makes the Gizz so great!
Dude I thought I was alone with this opinion, Murder of the Universe is like THE KGLW record for me, it was my first introduction to them and still holds me in a vice to this day
Saw them live in a fort on a hill looking down on the Šibenik canal in Croatia. The performance was nothing short of spectacular paired with the insane view. They had 2 days in a row and each performance is a completely different set of songs. This band is like no other and truly deserves all the recognition.
King Gizz!! i always tell people, they are making some of the best music you've never heard! my cousin showed me these guys back in 2017. took me to their show in LA and Flying Microtonal Banana had just dropped.. MAAAN still one of the best shows I've ever been to. these guys are SPECAIL
Oddly, every friend I've recommended them too has said "I am already aware of them and love them!" and I'm always wondering why they never told me!! Must have been a great show to go to!
I'm familiar with the band but have only ever listened in passing. I loved what I have heard but, you know, so much music in the world! I took your advice and checked out Ice V... absolutely blown away! Adore the instrumentation and the video is S-tier! Awesome video!
That is amazing! So happy to hear that :D. The whole of Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava is amazing. Thanks so much for letting me know. I hope you continue to enjoy their music and *cough cough* my videos :).
Amazing video, your love for the band really shines through it all! I personally prefer the "lighter" stuff from the Gizz (Fishies, Paper Mâché, Nonagon) but i was pleasantly surprised when i put on Infest the Rats Nest one day and listened to it all the way through. I have since learned not to discard any album of theirs based on genre, but it is helpful to filter a bit to even listen to everything. At the end of last year, i genuinely felt like they produced albums faster than i could listen to them, it's absurd
Thanks so much, I am glad my love for the band shines through and isn't hidden by my attempts to be funny! Yes I agree completely, there are plenty of albums by the Gizz in genre's I usually wouldn't even give a chance but everything they make still has the feel of KGLW to it. I hope we get some more of that this year :).
That's really kind of you to say! I started this channel about 4 weeks ago and the reception so far has been great! Really enjoying making the videos and looking forward to making more. Thanks so much for the comment!
Been a huge fan of this band since the glorious year of 2017. Your breakdown of the key points in the band's history was superb. This is the first video I'm seeing of your channel; consider me a new subscriber.
@@passionut Suffice to say, every year is an exciting year to be a fan of King-Mothafucking-Gizzard and the-Goddamn-Lizard-Assed-Wizard. Thanks again for the quality content. Looking forward to more from your channel!
@@MrRag3rKid I'm looking forward to more from Gizz so I can make more videos on them! Other videos in the near future though! Thanks again for the kind words and the sub.
mann great video, I saw them live at Red Rocks in October and when they played the first half of nonagon infinity I had an out of body experience, the best rock band of the current generation for sure
Similar story myself, heard a few songs and knew about them for years but never ventured until I saw the KEXP session with Ice V and Iron Lung. Been on a deep dive since and loved everything.
Been a fan since the Nonagon era. I found out about them from an Australian music news site from an article about an album that loops Infinitely, I had to check it out! I then found out they were from Melbourne and they were doing a show at the Croxton Bandroom in the north of Melbourne, I was instantly hooked after hearing most of Nonagon live. I've seen them 10 times since.
Love love love this. The little gag edits of cutting in interviews and musical shenigans, the enthusiasm of it all. By the way, 4:32 was that shot of Nardwuar on purpose?
Awesome thank you so much :D. Yes it was a running joke I was trying to create, I also used a picture of Nardwuar as Amby when I compared him to his Dad.
I was going to say this is the best review of a band that I've ever seen on RU-vid and then I remembered it's the only review of a band that I've seen on RU-vid but it was fucking awesome. I know it's been 5 months and Gizzard has probably released 10 more albums but very informative as I try to make my way through the Gizzverse. Seeing the Band 3 times in the last nine months has been very helpful but it's very difficult keeping up. Thank you for this break from my busy daily schedule of listening to King gizzard & The Lizard wizard 12 to 15 hours a day. And for anyone still reading this comment what are you waiting for, go watch gizzard & the lizard open with rattlesnake at the salt shed on June 12th
There's something about this band that inspires the kind of dedicated fandom that leaves you wanting to do nothing but listen to and talk about King Gizzard. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you continue to enjoy your Roadtrain assisted tour of the Gizzverse. Next stop, the Land before Timeland.
@@passionut That's how I was about The Dead from 1972 until 78 when I saw Rust Never Sleeps. Then it was pretty much nothing but Crazy Horse for 20 years. Thermals during the 2000s and then Ty Segall for 5 years before I heard Omnium. I think some young people don't understand what it is about this band but for older people who have been following Pop for the last 60 years it's that every song I listen to recalls all the different genres of rock that I've listened to my whole life. They way they weave in and out without affecting the listenability is brilliant and amazing. I'm afraid Gizz n Lizz are spoiling us. Thanks for the video. I'm going to have to watch a few more times to figure it out but then, "It's not the destination..."
That last Commentary in the video 😂 So I've never heard of these guys before. But I'm intrigued now. That is a huge catalog of music they have done. Damn lol I guess it's time to go see about listening to them and discovering the music. And BTW that interpretation was insane...wow lol hell of a lot going on with that lol I'm definitely curious now. rattlesnake rattlesnake lol
Really glad you enjoyed the video and excited at the prospect of another Gizzhead! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on all my videos. I hope you find something new you enjoy from it!
Np at all. It's entertaining watching your content. Your mix of facts, honest opinions and humor work very well for me. I am going to check them out probably this evening. I'm so curious about these guys now lol
Thanks so much :D I was worries I would get a lot of "Um actually!" In the comments but everything has been really positive. Anything you personally disagree with or would add?
Thanks so much! I hoping they release a but load more albums next year cause then I can make more videos on them, and even better than that, so there is more of their music in the world.
This narrator is the very best. I want him to be the narrator of my life video. Or at the very least create the ultimate narration of humans on earth. With 👑 gizzard & the 🦎 🧙♂️ soundtrack of course, of course. Rattlesnake Rattlesnake Rattlesnake ... Rattlesnake
I’m curious why you chose Gumboot Soup and Butterfly 3000 as the only neo psychedelic albums. In my opinion, much of their discography as defined the genre
I don't have the best ear for picking out a genre so I used Wikipedia and those were the only two albums it specifically defined in that way which is odd because I always thought Wikipedia was an almost infallible source.
As a fan since 2019, I would say the Gizzverse is definitely blown way out of proportion. There's some stories and commonalities between songs that def do imply a Gizzverse. But most of the songs people claim to be Gizzverse are just songs about other stuff. I don't buy that Boogieman Sam is a Gizzverse song. Neither do I buy that infest the rats nest is a Gizzverse album, that album's story is pretty self contained. Either way, it's impossible to interpret a definite storyline for the gizzverse, it's more a collection of common themes.
@@passionut I think the band's attitude towards the whole thing is that some songs are, most aren't. Songs can just be songs. Without a gizzverse connection. They can even be both. For example, "Robot Stop", a song regarded as many to be peak gizzverse and about Han-Tyumi, is clearly about the touring experience and having to do drugs to keep up. I honestly think the band probably has less of an idea of what the gizzverse is than some of the fans who make all the theories.
@@firstarcanist4952 Oh absolutely the Fans are more into it than the band, but the band started it, and Stu said "They're ALL connected" about their albums implying they are ALL set in the same universe so you can forgive fans for trying to find links for everything. It's fun and something they enjoy doing and their is no harm in it. I've not heard of that interpretation before for Robot Stop, but considering Han-Tyumi features heavily in the music video and there's even a reference in there to his eyes being gouged out, I am pretty confident the song is Gizzverse. To be honest if there is one album where every song is Gizzverse, it's Nonagon. Then again that's not say your interpretation of the song is incorrect, songs can and often do have multiple meanings.
@@passionut Oh I would also say Robot Stop is Gizzverse. I'm just saying that even most Gizzverse songs also have meanings beyond the Gizzverse interpretation. I don't mind the fan theories, I myself have spent some time thinking about how albums connect (Nonagon, Poly and Murder are all def Gizzverse and connected). But it seems that 2017 was the year of the Gizzverse and they sprinkled in some references in 2019 and not as much since then. I'm just saying one shouldn't expect every song / album to be (deliberately by the band) Gizzverse, tho every fan can for sure make up their own interpretation.
@@firstarcanist4952 Ah okay cool - Yeah I agree 2017 was definitely peak Gizzverse. To be fair of the 5 albums last year I would struggle to claim a single song was a Gizzverse song. I'm not one of those super theorist who manages to squeeze Gizzverse meanings out of "Honey" because it's called "Honey" and "Milk & Honey" is referred to on Nonagon. It is fun to engage in for sure though.
That is Frances the Mute by The Mars Volta - brilliant album and nowhere near as famous as the others but I wanted to sneak one of my personal favs in there.
