Emma Donoghue, bestselling author of Room has released a brand new book called The Wonder and I was asked to make a video sharing my words on my own Irish past after I read it.
"The chilling novel from the bestselling author of Room.
An eleven-year-old girl stops eating, but remains miraculously alive and well. A nurse, sent to investigate whether she is a fraud, meets a journalist hungry for a story.
Set in the Irish Midlands in the 1850s, The Wonder - inspired by numerous European and North American cases of 'fasting girls' between the sixteenth century and the twentieth - is a psychological thriller about a child's murder threatening to happen in slow motion before our eyes. Pitting all the seductions of fundamentalism against sense and love, it is a searing examination of what nourishes us, body and soul."

Two sponsored videos in a row is silly timing on my part! This book is delicious, though. New reviews ASAP.. one book about teenage witches and another non-fiction read about transgender teens. Thanks for watching

This brought me to tears. I'm a 19-year-old girl living in a small village in the Northern Italian countryside and I'm about to move to a big city to go to University, leaving this land that has been the home of my family for God knows how many generations. I know very well how a rustic past can be filled with beautiful stories, and I'll always carry them with me, wherever I'll end up in the future. Your words made me cry in the best way possible!

Sometimes I get emotional because of how beautiful a piece of writing is, and now is one of those times. I loved Room, and this book sounds completely different, but still right up my street, as I love folklore & really anything that's Irish!

Your two last videos felt quite different. Is that your new style? Cause I realy liked them, they are so calm and it warmed my heart.

Your description of the book at the beginning was beautiful and your reading really sells it. I've been wanting to read more and your book videos have helped with a lot of my buying decisions, so thank you. This is going on the list.

was at the giants causeway last week! also when we met you ,you talked about one of your early memories of being in limavady and seeing a giant chair ,we laughed wondering what you meant, my dad driving in the car this month explained to me about a cafe with a big chair at the exit to the carpark. i also thought of what you said when i looked out my window to see a group of primary school children on the beach in castlerock, my grandad was also from donegal, secretly i think ill always belong in NI

I'm so glad the chair wasn't a beautiful dream. That cafe did the best shepherds pie

watching this me feel like I was ready to cry with no idea why but at the same time I loved every moment of it. The way you shared those moments of your families past was so beautiful especially that ending as its gets you thinking. It makes me just want to share more moments that aren't always thought about with the world.

Another lovely video, I dont find it any less appealing knowing that it's sponsored. Rather I'm glad knowing that you have support for making wonderful content like this. I'd never mind ads if they were all as genuine and well-done as yours :)

Beautiful, you make such sweet, direct images with your words! I just recently finished Room - brilliant and terrifying and the whole development of Jack's language is particularly interesting.

You make me feel like I have turned a corner in my mind and entered into a living, breathing past, part yours, part mine, the people and places drawn with the imagination of a child and colored by the time-altered memories of a dawning adulthood.

Growing up abroad made me a bit removed from the feeling of home, but I've been back in Dublin a few years now and I think I can say I've found the place my soul is mined from. I won't live here forever, but I'll always come back. How could I not?
