Renée was complaining that our deck looked like crap compared to my shop. So we decided to restore the deck. And since she thought it would be an easy job she even volunteered to edit it.

This video was hillarious! I love the light spirit of it. Oh! Look! A little rotten wood! Let's change it. :) I also had a good laugh at the "Then we had to go to rest.... I mean work." There is just that underlying quality of the perfect mix of overview and detail that made this video make the 24 minutes fly by that just makes the jokes so much better! I also love the fact that you really showed off the "I told you so!" factor of doing it the right way the first time making this restoration possible, rather than a complete tare-down and rebuild, with 25 years of proof! Enjoy that beautiful deck! Cheers from Sweden!

Thank you. Yes every thing that went into this project was not a small thing, from restoring it to Renée's editing. But in the end we're so happy we have a brand new looking deck without having to rebuilt it. People don't see the benefit of doing it right the first time, they rather pay less and deal with the cost of redoing it several times. When we did it 25 years ago peoples were saying that we were crazy spending all tha money on cedar and stainless steel screws, who's crazy now ??? they all redid their decks seval times already.

I agree, well done Renée. I just want to add a tip from when I restored my deck floor... Don't use a hand sander.. Rent a 'plate sander (floor sander)' from the home center.. it saves money, time, and your knees... I was so pleased with the finish.. every board was exactly level with ever other board... like the surface of a table.

Hey Alain & Renee, nice job on the restoration! In my business I've been in a dozen homes that had caught fire. Half of them the fire was in the attic, can you guess how it got up there? A barbecue fire outside under the eves! HINT! Please be careful, it can happen in a moment.

You're right she's fantastic doing a scénario and editing it all. Our weather man at work always say I need a producer maybe Renée can do that.... Not... She's always complaining that because I'm in the shop making stuff she has no help inside the house and she rather be outside making dust but someone has to take care of the other stuff at home... On top of being out of the house 11 hours a day for work. Maybe when we'll retire.

Cher Alain, this was probably your finest video clip. To see the whole show "en famille" was a real treat not to mention that Renee's sense of humour is pleasant & is a wonderful narrator. Perhaps would you consider being somewhat demoted in favour of your lovely lady. You do the hard ungrateful tasks whilst Madame narrates to us all!!! Comme la vie est belle, c'est merveilleux. Kind regards.

I've been watching your clips for quite a while & do realise how fortunate you are to have a loyal accomplice in most undertakings. I am equally aware how hard working Madame is; but as the French say " Nobilite oblige" to let your lovely lady take the lead at least once in a while. I honestly taught that this clip was quite a novel & original approach. Anyway it's good to see that you have an equally good sense of humour with or without saw dust in your face. Take care & a plus tard. Kind regards.

Alain, in the future you may find the two ropes used to lift the drawbridge panels may catch on shoes and toes, you might try putting a 1/2 oz. weight or magnet on one end so gravity pulls the rope taught and out of the way. P.S. You've taught Renee well. I liked this video. :-)

the MRS. did a great job on EVERYTHING including being a comic, i was laughing so hard my wife had to ask me what was so funny i told her that you'll don't want splitters in your rear. or when you were sitting down resting & she busted yeah, but i would f needed a lot longer break than yu probably took. there is 1 thing i do know i would have done differently on the floor sanding i would have rented a floor sander 9 hours that you did just a bit to much work i noticed you also got to use the wooden bandsaw. i might add also what a mighty fine job you'll have done stay safe have fun b/c life is short

@hebierob

Alain Vaillancourt we are from South Texas. Probably came to Texas from Tennessee in 1860's. Funny story though, I ran my DNA through National Geographic and we are "47%" Scandinavian from Norway so that makes us "Vikings"!
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker

My ancestors were black and they arrived from somewhere (actually we don't know where) in the province of Quebec around 1803. Nobody has a clue as to where they came from. But there were no other black persons in that area so they contracted mixed marriages from one generation to the other and now we're all considered white. A strange story which will probably stay a mystery forever... So each time I meet a Robertson or Robinson, I ask the question.
@hebierob
@hebierob 7 лет назад
Alain Vaillancourt well, most Robinson's in the US are black. It's only a guess but Robinson probably comes from Britain and the black group from salves. Who knows. I promised you some Mesquite wood once but don't know how to get it to Canada! Haha. Someday!
