My compressor is one the most used tool in my shop. It's quite old and it shows even more with the motor because it's not working as it used to; so I'm changing it for an industrial one.

It has been a long time since I watched one of your videos! Don’t know why I waited so long? Keep them coming! Thanks!

Thank you, The important hing is that I can entertain you sometime. It's hard to always make exciting videos, like when I build my shop, but I still have a video every other week

I'm happy you changed that. Having sparks fly around the same room with the sawdust is a recipe for disaster.

Thank you, yes it was beginning to be a lot dangerous. This new industrial motor, which coast a fortune new, I had no clue a 5HP motors can be such expensive (lucky I found a used one), don't have any brushes, it's brushless, so now I'm safe no sparks, and no new shop !!!!

I have moved my 1948 Curtis compressor many times over the 30 years I've owned it. I have to remove the motor and compressor from the tank to do so because it's so heavy. Mine is an upright tank. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Those older compressors are made so much better and are so much quieter than the new ones. I'm glad you found a quality motor and didn't go to Princess Auto for a new one. I know you are a carpenter and wood worker so I won't come down on you too hard for using a claw hammer to hit the center punch LOL.

Yes old compressor are great, I also have to take it apart in three piece to move it around, it's why I installed some casters on it when I moved it into my shop, a little bit more than 9 years ago, time flies. I looked at motor at Pricess auto, but Pierre, my machinist friend, find a industrial motor on Kijiji for $200, with a 1¼" shaft it's WAY better than a 5/8" shaft at Princess auto. No one said anything about the hammer, it's the only type I own, the fancy one my dad left me are for super small nails and weigh almost nothing....

I share your joy, Alain! I've also had the pleasure of replacing old brushed motors with brushless -- one of life's great delights! Apart from saving the cost of brushes, I've found that the quietness of brushless motors is a huge benefit on tools such as saw tables, thicknessers, etc. (though you won't notice this improvement on a compressor, of course). Well done to you and Renée!

Thank you, yes it's at least half the noise, I can barely hear it pumping when the door is closed

Wow I didn't expect that it would make much difference in loudness on a compressor -- I stand corrected! Grand that it's such a huge improvement in multiple ways...

I also didn't expect the noise reduction, it was a welcome surprise. I guess when the brushes are hitting the commutators they make noises. I had a comment from someone who also changed his compressor motor for a brushless one that also said that the noise was reduce considerably

Congratulations I have finally found someone who has an older tool than mine. Only because I could not find or make some new brushes than mine, so I had to buy a new one.

LOL, I had such a hard time finding brushes, and even then I had to modify them. Like I said, I should have changed the motor years ago, it would have paid itself by only the saving I would have made from not buying all those brushes....

By the way, I just want to pass along my respect for that opening scene. It must have taken you a half hour or more to clean out that closet, and remove the dust collector, just so you could record that introduction from beside the Air Compressor.

Thank you. LOL. At least. but the worst is now, Renée and I are stripping varnish from chairs, when we'll be done( today) we will have several hours just to dust off the shop it's a real mess. You will see that soon.
