My dad worked for Pete Harman years ago. He met Colonel Sanders on a few occasions. Pete Harmon was the one that came up with the idea of the bucket or Pail. Love the video! As always, thanks for sharing your travels!
Your Utah videos have been awesome. They have been funny and beautiful those parks have inspired me to take a trip to see them. I loved yesterday's video. I like the time that you are spending with your family. Life's to short. I lost my dad 3 months ago and my mom 4 years ago. Cherish that time. Love you all.
I've never been to the original KFC location, but I am thankful that I did have an opportunity, when I was a teenager, to meet Colonel Sanders himself. He was a guest on a TV game show at NBC in Burbank. I waited outside the studio next to his limo after the show. When he came out he gave me a warm handshake, a big smile and an autographed photo. RIP, Colonel Sanders, and thank you for that memorable moment.
Been enjoying the Utah videos and seeing your folks in them your dad is so chill and funny. When your mom told you not to get any closer to the edge gave me a warm feeling and smile my mom passed in 91.
To clarify things a bit, the original place in Kentucky where Colonel Sanders sold his chicken was called the Sanders Court & Cafe. It was not until this Utah location began selling the Colonel's recipe that the term "Kentucky Fried Chicken" was used (the guy that was helping design the signage for the place came up with the name). So, this is the first place to ever use the Kentucky Fried Chicken name, even if it was not the first place to sell the chicken.
@@jaredwhite489 they were the first to use the name "Kentucky Fried Chicken", but Colonel Sanders had been selling the chicken at his place in Corbin, KY for over 10 years at that point.
The museum in Corbin, KY, is now open. Stop by the next time you're driving through. JRN even purchased Sanders old house by the restaurant and restored it. Sadly the Sanders Court motel across from the restaurant was torn down long ago.
I came to a realization today, as to why I look forward everyday to your Salt Lake, series. You're feeding my heart with memories of what family used to be. Thank you so much Adam.
Love your dad, always makes things fun, but he also has a lovely way of explaining things, when he said "mini soooda " lol loved the vlog, also loved yesterday's vlog can't wait to see you go there for the full experience Adam
“I am entering the Waiting Area….to see a 33 foot Iguana. Dramatic…very dramatic.” Dude, I love content like this. I couldn’t help but smile the entire video. Thanks Adam.
Love all these entries on the Utah leg of your tour. Can totally see and hear the DNA of the Adam sense of humour in the jocular witticisms from Papa Woo. The clip starting around 13:40 is one of the funniest things ever. Your dad held his laugh a lot longer than I did when the camera turned onto him. Like everyone else before me whose commented: can always dig the vids with your parents involved. Some of the best! Y'all be safe. Looking forward to the next one. Take care.
The Red Iguana has a waiting area because it's by far the most popular restaurant in Salt Lake. It's not unusual to have to wait over an hour just to get a table.
I’ve been here 10 years and have only managed to go to blue iguana but my grandma who is FROM Mexico and a great cook always says her favorite Mexican is la hacienda in Draper.
SLC has no culture that isn't bland and lame. I love the outdoors, but the people... dreadfully unfunny, boring and not particularly interesting. It is like being in a city filled with 99% NPCs. It is kind of pathetic. I was taken to a place that had "great Italian food" and it was awful. Then I was taken to a place with great Mexican food...again, AWFUL. I realized the pattern right away. Such a dud city.
HEY ATW...MAN, I SURE LOVE YOUR DAD! YOU CAN JUST SEE THE GOODNESS emanating from him! What a humble, awesome father. He always puts things into perspective from a spiritual point of view. Salt Lake City sure is an interesting place. So odd, it's almost boring, if that makes sense! What's with all the peacocks there?
Eating in the parking lot reminds of the time Adam went to re-opening of Knotsberry Farm chicken joint after Covid pandemic and Adam and his buddies ate in a parking lot and a mouse ran across someone’s lap. Think Dillon was there and screamed. It was too funny.
The original restaurant looked completely different. They had a really cool one in Ogden. It had a millstream running through it and cabins that you could stay in behind it.
I met the colonel when I was a young boy at Charlotte airport he looked exactly like he looks on the Chicken box hahaha... I said Howdy Colonel he said Howdy Son...And waved his Cane at me ❤️
@@chccooperider1377 What if Colonel Sanders chased him through the airport for hours, dressed in a purple chicken outfit, shaking his cane at him and screaming Get off my lawn whippersnapper! Then he started throwing chicken all over the place from an electric cart he stole from security. Wouldn't that make a funnier story? Besides I said funnier. The original story was plenty cool already.
@@chccooperider1377 I'm glad I could make you laugh. What if Colonel Sanders had all the planes decorated like purple chickens and rerouted all the flights to Kentucky? The passengers would be informed of their new destination after takeoff.
My brother’s first job was with KFC he was an excellent cook. He could almost duplicate the Fried chicken at home. My Mama hated when he cooked it though for one reason he destroyed her immaculate kitchen. I miss them both so much. 💜
Lived on an island in Micronesia 30 years ago. Couldn't believe a Kentucky Fried Chicken was there, being the only franchise fast food restaurant on island. Served fried rice, no mashed potatoes or coke slaw on menu. But seeing Col. Sanders' image so far from home was comforting. Like seeing a favorite relative. Very grateful Col. Sanders opened franchises in so many distant corners of the world for homesick Americans to enjoy.
I lasted one day working at KFC when I was a teenager and it was my shortest tenure anywhere. The line was long and the customers were so serious about their chicken and it was a lot of pressure. I looked it up and the Salt Lake restaurant was franchised in 1952 and the one in my town was Harden's Kentucky Fried Chicken and it was franchised in 1958. The Colonel visited existing established restaurants and sold his franchises. The Colonel was a success because he wasn't a quitter, unlike myself, because I don't have any qualms about quitting. We always called it a bucket of chicken and I miss the way it used to taste.
I understand your plight. I worked for a short time at a Tastee Freeze for 75 cents an hour. The owner didn't even want to hire me because I was a 16 year old male. (instead of a female which he said were more reliable). Anyway I only lasted about two weeks and was fired for unknown reasons. It was my first job with the exception of two years of paper routes. You'd think I'd forget about it but I never did, Lol..
Kentucky Fried Chicken, my favorite food since I was a wee little girl! Original Recipe for me please & only the dark meat!!! Great vlog, Adam, glad to see you and your Dad spending time together again!!! 🌼
Adam always says, "This is what we're dealing with" when he gets his food. I wish I could still eat KFC, but after a massive heart attack, triple-bypass, and an ICD added to my chest two years ago, my doctor would kill me lol. Enjoy it for me Adam!
There is nothing more important than family and love! Glad to see you and your family spending time together in these recent vlogs Adam! Safe travels my friend!
@16:58 once you see the Colonel’s bow tie as a tiny body.. You can’t unsee it lol I always enjoy the videos with your dad in them.. @23:46 looks like the FBI shot of D B Cooper on the Cup ha
Red Iguana is legendary (Diners, Drive Ins and Dives), best mole around. That KFC used to have a buffet before covid and trust me that was an epic feast. Oh and by the way, outside Hill Air Force base in Layton Utah, there is a dive bar called "Do Drop Inn" ...I enjoy your videos
Hi Adam glad your having a good time hanging out with your family in Utah and it was so fun hanging out with you and your dad and I will say it was pretty amazing to see that KFC knowing it had so much history behind it but one thing is I wish it would have been left in its original nostalgic look instead of remodeling it but at least it was nice to see inside that they had so many pictures that showed the history of the place it really made going there more special for you and your dad as well as me through you video now I’m wondering where Pioneer Chicken plays into this as far as history is concerned and how big were they in their heyday well anyways it’s always great to have your dad around he’s quite the character and you seem to always enjoy his company now with that being said peace ☮️ love ❤️ and happiness to you Adam and your Dad and I’ll see you on the next vlog adventure wherever it takes you also please be safe out there peace ☮️ out ✌️
I’m a fan at the original recipe myself. I used to like the extra crispy version, but it wasn’t as good the last few times I had it. The original has always been good though. Interesting trip through fast food history, and I always enjoy the videos that feature your dad.
I can't help but recommend Vernal Utah which has dinosaur National park. I believe your dad and mom may enjoy the views over there. It is an easy day trip. I also really enjoyed the natural history museum in salt lake. Vernal does have a few road side dinosaurs also.
Carrying on the KFC tradition with dad..❤️🍗🍗🍗. love seeing him, he’s so sweet and funny. Your Mom and sister too! Thanks for sharing the enjoyment of your family time Adam. xxx
🍗🕶✌Morning Woo, Gotta love the big O' bucket of chicken..out here in Portland it was The Speck first. That was really cool seeing his suit. That's the coolest KFC thanks for showing this..loved seeing him shake hands with mickey..yup I can see the Woo on the cup 🤔🤣
Great Episode Adam! Here's the rest of the Summum Story Summum is a small religious sect founded in 1975 by the late Summum Bonum Amon Ra (who also went by Corky). The group operates out of a pyramid in Salt Lake City and is most famous for carrying on the Egyptian tradition of mummification, a practice that is also the sect's primary source of income.
I had a roommate named Cordelia, but went by Corky. She was exceedingly strange. I asked her to move when I came home one day to find her in MY bed with her boyfriend. He lived next door, so she just went next door.
I’ve lived in the SL Valley all my life and I’ve never seen that pyramid! I used to work a few blocks away! Things I’m learning about the city I live in!
Thanks for the video with your dad! I love it. I miss my folks so much and glad you are able to have this time together. Don't leave any chicken on the bone! Ha ha. Enjoying these videos from Utah, a place I've only been in the airport in, and one foot at four corners!
KFC original recipe is the awesomest chicken ever! ... wow I have NEVER seen a squirrel so adorable cruising like that, they're normally skittish. ... Your Dad's humorous behavior and trivia knowledge makes this vid even more enjoyable 👍 thank you both for inviting us along.
"Kentucky Fried Chicken! We do chicken RIGHT! " hehe...The scales on that iguana statue are satisfying for some reason. I don't know how I'd feel sipping coffee with a giant friggin PYRAMID of my mummified neighbor right outside my kitchen window. Also, a mini KFC museum, that's actually pretty awesome, did they have a gift shop or any small souvenirs for sale? I'd want like a fried chicken... bobblehead or something, lol
Is it just me or is that iguana one of the weirdest most awesome pieces of art ever? I mean I am seriously considering a trip there just to see that iguana and I dont have the money.
Grew up in Louisville Kentucky. Was about 11 years old and just walked out of dentist office in Hike Point. Just had surgery and was pumped up with laughing gas. Walked out the door and ran into the Colonel straight up. Thought I was hallucinating! Lol. Told my Mom and she said “oh my, your on drugs”. Lol. It was the 60’s.
Small world! I lived on Richland Ave. in Hikes Point in the '60s when I was a young child. My family moved from there when I was 7. Do you remember the Baskin Robbins ice cream shop? It's still there. 🌝
@@roccaclassico9028 I also lived on Richland Ave. 4th house on the left. Worked in the bakery for several years as a kid running dangerous gas fed high pressure steamer to clean baking trays. Today would be child abuse
@@roccaclassico9028 I do remember the baskin robins, had many a fine treat there. Right next to Heltons Jewlers. They didn’t like kids….lol. Wonder why
Adam, you have amazing parents and I know you already know that, because you are an amazing son. Tell your Dad thank you for making me smile!💕Now I want some KFC 🍗!
There used to be a couple of really nice KFC's in the valley. one on North Temple and another in Sugarhouse. They had real plates. Silverware, wait staff. It was a sit down restaurant. Fun Fact. The one in sugarhouse was visible from 1-80 and for the last couple of years it was open, half the sign was burnt out and it just said "ucky Fried Chicken"! Haha!
Adam I just watched the show you did with Daphne you guys are great and also the one year that you did with your dad love your entertaining thank you for sharing
Hi Adam, good to see you and your dad doing some stuff, always get confused on these two kfc,so this was first franchise, but one in kentucky first kfc.
I ate in Harman's in 1963-64 on my way from San Jose to Big Spring Texas and was offered a new and marvelous chicken dinner called "Kentucky Fried Chicken". I was in love with the chicken ever since!
Adam, you are looking awesome. You look thinner & healthier. You also seem happy to be back on the road. The cardio machines at the hotels must be useful. Keep up the good work!
SLC local here! Can confirm, the Red Iguana is the sister location to the Blue Iguana downtown, and both are considered to be some of the best Mexican food spots in the valley! :) Wait times can be up to two hours easy on Friday/Saturday; the waiting area by the huge iguana is used as an overflow waiting area! You should go to either location while you’re here!
Our KFC closed years ago...we have to go to the next city over for that yummy stuff. Then this past year the built a new franchise just down the road from it. How dare they!!! Love the mashed taters bowls! 🐔🧀🍻
