@@FirlowXD for some people it may be better, but the game was designed around the touch screen and the dual screens. You miss out on a bit of the flavor of the game with a port

@@DarthRaichu yeah the game was designed around the two screens but that doesn't automatically makes it the better option. Its all about how it feels for the consumer and in this case both versions have their pros and cons. The ds controls are still very very cumbersome, while the Switch controls lack a certain level of depth. I personally prefer the DS version, but I wouldnt necessarely call it superior

@@Rusty84CV I was actually playing I was on the second week of the games story. Days 3 and 4. Day 3 revolved around you helping the guy that works at ramen shop who’s was dealing with competition with another ramen shop. Day 4 revolved around you be forced to help a band find there missing Mic.

A tablet pen would work the best since the Switch has the same screen as a tablet, where it’s made to register touch-sensitive inputs. You can probably find one for cheap on Amazon.

It works well on the touch screen, but at that point you’re probably better off with the iPad port.

Have you tried touch controls? Since the game works way better with them due to being designed for it.

I've played Final Remix for 150 hours, most of that time spent in the co-op mode, but as a single person: I hold one Joy-con in each hand and play both characters myself, just like in the DS version. In my eyes this is FAR superior than the default Solo mode, since there the partner only has one attack and needs to reload for far too long after finishing their attacks. In Co-op, your partner gets three attacks and can move around the field freely. The three attacks paired with Neku's eventual six give the combat a lot of variety in how you choose to mix attacks together and such. It really is on par with the DS version in my opinion. But as a true co-op experience? It depends on how much downtime Player 2 can put up with, since *all* they're involved with is battles. Shopping, menu fiddling, puzzles, overworld exploration, etc, is all Player 1s job, so it pretty much feels like a single player game for a solid half of it. Its great if you enjoy talking together while playing but if you're playing with someone who gets bored easily like a younger sibling, expect them to get bored before you even unlock the co-op (~40 min in)

I probably would be player 2 so I wouldn't mind the downtime, as I'm mostly in it so they can experience the game, I've played the original so I don't mind letting them taking the driver's seat on this one. As long as she doesn't really want to be Shiki at the start, I'm cool with letting them handle the overworld stuff lol. At the very least the combat sounds like it will still be fun in co-op. I presume the final boss would still be solo right? I think I could still have a good time with it, with me as player 2 just gently guiding them and helping in combat.

@@NN-ge2wf The final boss is solo yes, but the things that you would originally (briefly) do on the top screen in it are done by player 2

Co-op is very fun, but keep in mind this is still an RPG and that everything that isn't combat (shops, overworld, story, puzzles) is controlled by Player 1. You can fill that time to discuss the story or mechanics with each other but P2 will still be sitting on the bench from time to time.

@@youmeltube Thanks, I was on the fence, but I might get it. We usually play the "Tales of" series together, so we are used to the player one doing most of the things (we exchange controller time to time)

Whoa there, controversial opinion. But I'm glad you had a good time with it.

I remember being hesitant on Zion but quickly liked him. Jon I was on board with straight away after enjoying his content from GameXplain for years.

Last year I found it used in a CEX for 20usd, loved it on the DS and loved it on the switch although the controls at first are kind of annoying.

You don't really need to recalibrate the joy-con constantly. Just have them on a flat surface when they're first connected, and then keep using the recenter button at any avalible time. (Unless thats what you mean by recalibrating, in which case...its just pressing Y once?)

@@youmeltube Yeah, that’s what I mean by having to recalibrate it. It’s not the worst thing in the world, but it’s just far from intuitive to have to keep doing it constantly in order to keep the pointer centered. Which’s why touch controls are certainly the most optimal way to play this game.

It works extremely well with motion controls (I recommend using the recenter button frequently, like after every combo finisher) and works even better when doing single-person co-p

@@youmeltube docked. Ik I should play with touch but I just don't like having my finger cover up a part of a screen. I think I'll just go find a DS copy.

@@itsaxel8088 Try playing the game in co-op as a single person. Having two pointers to work with instead of just one makes things a lot more manageable. I also recommend recentering the pointer (Y button) at every opportunity you can, and make sure that your controllers are on a flat surface every time you connect them (for some reason the game only asks you to do that when you first boot the game up...)

@@Boxish I would say this one almost met my (low) expectations. I enjoyed it, especially in the Shiki week (which should have been at least an episode longer and had Miki in it) but it had really rough pacing and like none of the charming side characters in the middle to near the end. PLUS THEY DIDN"T SHOW GIANT MR. MEW SHOOTING LAZERS FROM HIS EYES! I kept waiting for Shiki to use her third special T.T

How do you aim attacks then?

@@youmeltube Use the gyro/motion controls. It would still have the pointer, you just wouldn't need to do all those silly swipe gestures which barley work while docked. So turn every pin into a point in click. Is it dumbed down? Yes, but at least it'll work.

@@Chris-yp6zm The current system works too, especially since a majority of pin commands don't really have much of any "jestures" to speak of (Flames summoned by just holding where you're pointing, projectiles and thunderbolts fired by just tapping, Ice Risers/Uppercuts is just holding and moving the controller slightly upward which is hardly a complicated jesture). The only pins that do require "jestures" to my knowledge are Slash pins, which for alashing enemies is required for the game to know which direction you're slashing in a la Skyward Sword, and Psychokinesis Slashing requires you to both point at the thing you want to toss and then move in which direction to toss it. It would be an absolute nightmare to try and remap these to your point-and-tap only approach which, since pointing is the main issue people have with the controls, wouldn't really fix anything. There's also the pins where you draw a circle, I guess. Those I'd agree would be more effective by just tapping but thats hardly worth uprooting everything else for (not to mention making movement worse.) To which button do you plan to map the Dodge by the way, since all 6 buttons on the Joy-Con are occupied by the 6 pins? SL and SR?

really wanted to get one, as i’ve been a fan of the game for the past 5 or so years but i just couldn’t find them for not 80 dollars when it came out so i just got it digitally, but since i gameshare on my switch i cant play anything offline :/
