10/10 great sound. The sound is so clear and groundbreaking that the emotion that could be used to play with it is overwhelming. It really touches my soul through the screen. The contrast of piano and forte which are randomly played remind me of the struggles of life and how you have to keep moving on, despite what is thrown at you. The broken valve reminds me that even if you are broken you can rest assured that your friends will be there for you to help you out. And those valves? They had the most perfect circles I have ever witnessed. Not even a computer could generate such a perfect circle. Oh and it could play all the notes with such passion. It definitely is a fun yet serious instrument. I would definitely play it in my orchestra. My music teacher would probably be happy to hear that for hours. In fact, we should start a petition that every country has to play this cornet while students take important tests. It would relax the minds of students and make them want to work. And don't even get me started on the flawless condition that it had. It DEFINITELY had everything it guaranteed. I don't know why anyone would dislike it. Anyone who hears it is most likely blessed for eternal life and guaranteed to go to heaven. The angels probably play this, in fact, the saints do. This is one of the most magical, beautiful, graceful instruments I have had the privilege to hear.

There was a version of 'Carnival of Venice" played on an old kids' show, maybe an episode of the Little Rascals, that sounded as if it was played on that cornet. I tried to find it, but it wasn't easily dredged out of apocrypha. I used to play a bunch of brass instruments, but a car accident in 2006 left me with a severely limited lift weight and endurance. A full-metal instrument is simply too heavy for me to hold nowadays. The moment arm on my shoulders and neck is too great and the pain is incredible. But I found that the Tromba ABS plastic trumpet is quite playable, weighing only 500 grams. Another playable instrument, designed primarily for kids and beginners, but still usable, is the Nuvo JHorn. Another plastic instrument, it reminds me strongly of the Tenor (Alto) Horn. It has a hybrid piston/rotary valve system that reminds me of a locomotive drive wheel arrangement, with a piston arm pushing an eccentric wheel to rotate the valve body. Both are very lightweight and I can play them long enough to be worthwhile. I also have the Nuvo JSax, which I can make decent music on, given it's an all-plastic instrument with plastic reed, and that I've never played a saxophone before. But the strangest of the lot is a Roland AE-01 Aerophone, a MIDI wind controller with built-in synth that can be set to sound like a flute, violin, trumpet, or soprano sax. It has a "trumpet fingering" mode that I find rather opaque, so I use the sax fingering when in trumpet mode. It's not half bad, and I can add virtual instruments through an Android app on my phone, or I can plug it straight to my computer with USB and use it with a DAW as a plain MIDI controller.

Re: The valve marked "34"... Some very serious pro instruments have valves numbers that aren't simply "1-2-3" - obviously not the case here, but probably for the same reason: if you build a batch of valves and valveblocks and you number them all individually (for that batch) then you can make sure the correct valves end up in the correct instrument... My old Selmer K-Mod (since departed) had valves numbered in the hundreds!

TRENT! How the heck can you play that riff at 9:09 on that monstrosity - without laughing? I kept rewinding that section and after a few times - I was ON THE FLOOR, laughing like a hyena...My question is this: Why even MAKE something as flawed as this? What a WASTE of brass (or maybe, it ISN'T brass - it's MONEL?) I thought my ancient 60 year old 'Oxford' cornet was terrible - but THIS? O M G. I haven't played the Oxford in a decade - but, after picking myself off the floor - I gave it a whirl. Wow. Thank you for making my day! James in Toronto

I recently got something similar off eBay. The one I received came with a case and has a trumpet mouthpiece receiver (and a mouthpiece that fit wobbily, but the receiver fits my Bach mouthpiece well enough)...and of course that smell. Pretty sure the smell is molybdenum disulfide; clearly they lubricated the valve threads and slides with whatever axle grease they had lying around. Valve quality is somewhat better that what you have. Played shite at first, but a good pipe cleaning and valve swab-out and relubrication made it much more playable. I have a mouthpiece adapter on order (from a reputable source); hopefully this will at least sound close enough to an actual cornet once I get my Yamaha mouthpiece in it. Bought this because I wanted something to practice on until I can get my old YamaConn Director back in playable condition.

Your vid helps to recognize what the really cheap ones are and how they perform. I see a lot of used (mostly student) horns, but I don't want to spend a lot as an adult beginner. Any recommendations?
